Like think about it, as a creative type you are going to have to deal with a lot of scrutiny and people who will just shit on your overall soul because it is like infusing your own personality into your work. No matter how cynical your game is, there is still a piece of you in. The same can't really be said for critics, who can largely speaking just xerox a take that they vaguely agree with, make a video or write an essay about it and then say that's done. It is also kind of an easy way for you to get intellectual points without actually making anything, it is detached from the overall perspective of actually making something which I feel is kind of missing from a lot of critics, which is why I generally respect Yahtzee, Matthew Metosis and some other youtubers who seem to actually put their money where their mouth is. Even someone who makes a very slickly editted video is kind of a parasite in a way, not to say that I am against criticism but the relationship between being a critic and a creative is very lopsided, there is simply no way for a creative to have an equal relationship with a critic because critics, especially internet critics with their generally (Kind of fake) outsider and sincere status just have that much more power over how much you make and shit. Hell in a lot of cases I think a lot of critics are too willing to praise games and give shitty games a try just because it's le haha funny or whatever

I don't think anyone "valorizes" critics as a whole, in fact I think the majority opinion would be that they're all retarded.

maybe on /v/ but like who gets their opinions from where

I think people mostly get their opinions from metacritic while simultaneously deriding every single person whose score makes up the metacritic score

There's a critic on youtube that has been at it for around 15 years now. He isn't a moron and he's played hundreds and hundreds of games. Has his own website, writes pieces, etc. Interviewed dozens and dozens of professionals.

As an aspiring independent developer, I actually understand where you are coming from. Getting pissed at some philistine's opinion is part of the territory, however. And it's guys like GW that actually hold it down for the critic side of the videogame medium.

This image is very something coded, but I’m not quite sure what that something is.
