>Amazon's head of gaming Jeff Gattis has told the BBC he believes the rising cost of tech means people will turn to streaming games online rather than buying new consoles.

>"There are somewhere between two-and-a-half and three billion people who play games around the world, but only a fraction of those own dedicated gaming hardware," Gattis said.

>He said streaming games could help people who do not want to spend hundreds - or even thousands - of pounds on a console or gaming PC.

>"As hardware becomes more expensive, and as streaming technology continues to improve, I think you'll naturally see more people asking whether they actually need that dedicated device," he said.

>live in a capitalist society where ownership is constantly demonstrated to be the end-game state for wealth
>so much so that the government has taken extreme pains to prop up and venerate this system through actual wars for over 100 years
>companies constantly try to sell you the idea of renting something and paying for service as being better

I always find CEOs or whoever that say consumers want to endlessly subscribe and rent as being personally insulting. It implies that they view consumers as being stupid because they are fine to just be debt-slaves. And if not, then they're acknowledging that they have financially-ignorant consumers that they are completely okay exploiting. If these companies supposedly share my capitalist American values, why don't they push for individual ownership models to help elevate their brothers and sisters?

no, i mean, look at the makeup of the gaming industry right now. how big a portion of that is gacha? part of that is because they're the only ones making AAA games designed explicitly for phones. eventually phones or whatever tech succeeds them becomes good enough that they don't have limitations compared to a console, and then no one buys consoles

GeForce NOW is currently:
>free with ads, shitty specs, 1-hour sessions
>$10/month with no ads, good specs, 6-hour sessions
>$20/month with no ads, great specs, 8-hour sessions
A "session" is how long you can game before you get kicked back to logging in to a new "session", where the primary purpose is that you have to wait in a queue to start playing. According to them, the wait in a queue is usually less than 2 minutes, but I'd be skeptical of that number. IMO, those prices are obviously low to build up a customer base, and your pricing is more realistic in the long term if it sticks around.

Generally speaking corporate heads of entertainment are typically some of the dumbest faggots in the world. It's just a make work program for the wealthy, because they're allowed nice things like that. Frankly the corporate western structure of business has been an absolute cancer that should really be excised, but I seriously doubt America and westoids in general have the core competencies and overall will needed to do such a task. I think only the chinks have that kind of power.
>>
>>743893303
nope.
game streaming costs 30 bucks a month. and you know you dont need to spend all of those 2000 bucks at once for a new pc, right? people can just pay for their own hardware in monthly rates and get their own hardware.
which is why game streaming will never take off. it will remain a filler in the event that you cant access your own pc for whatever reason.

>>743892401
No that's because they're basically the new MMOs, free to play and with a constant update cycle to feed players and keep the train going. Many successful gacha are extremely low quality assets and resemble 2009 flash games.
If, let's say, the prophesied biochip or whatever becomes so ubiquitous and high quality that it can play console games for everyone via streaming, it still won't bring the existing market for gacha into playing console titles on it, because they are not free and constantly updated. It might attract a few who are stuck with it after older tech formats bite the dust, but ultimately the reason companies like Nintendo stick with consoles is because they have their own walled garden they control with their own storefront. And if the companies decline to move, or only half-commit with multiplats, then the biochips or the like will not fully supplant consoles at the bare minimum, even if they subsume part of the casual PC and mobile market.
>>
>>743889280

>PC hardware is already at the point where it's unaffordable.
This just isn't true for everyone. I can still afford to build a brand new PC if I want with top specs. I don't *need* to do that, and if I want to upgrade something I can easily just purchase a graphics card and nothing else with my current setup, but I can afford a full new build if I want. I could very easily drop $5K on a PC and not feel any appreciable dip in my cash savings. I'm not rich; I just have a decent working-stiff desk job. I have a wife and kids too. The only people being priced out are those who incorrectly assume it's normal for broke kids to be able to afford top-of-the-line specs. That's almost never been the case.

A PC is more than just for games. I run a home media server off my PC, I write code (not for work; I have a dedicated machine for that), I edit/encode video sometimes, I edit images, and all other sorts of random shit that a console or some sort of streaming-only setup would not provide. I am willing to pay more than I would for a console to get that, not to mention the value of OWNING it, the value of which plenty of other posts above have described.

Streaming as anything but an added feature has never worked and never will. It will never be stable enough to provide a completely satisfactory experience. This shit has been tried repeatedly since the early 2000s. It will never become dominant. OnLive, Gaikai, etc. The tech cemetery is filled with this trash. As a bonus feature? Sure, why not. As something you have to pay for and is the only way to play your games? Never gonna happen. Games aren't movies or TV shows, no matter how much they want them to be, or how much money they throw at it.

Actually yeah, capitalism isn't real. What you have in western countries is a combination of free market capitalism, socialism a good dose of oligarchy and some communist ideas sprinkled in.
Shit is fucked not because the game is poorly designed, in fact there are constant patches and fixes being applied, but you are getting your asshole gaped and pozzed because jews are rawdogging the system.

Really, it only boils down to the fact that Steam has existed for decades without trying to steal everyone's games, withhold features and introduce subscriptions to get them back, or some other godforsaken tactic that Kotick came up with and is waiting to unleash on the world.
No other company has this benefit of the doubt, and it's impossible for a private company to make a business plan including it.

I wouldn't disagree with that if we also acknowledge that "the most dedicated hobbyists" is a large enough group to support some level of PC gaming ecosystem. If PC gamers can't afford top tier machines, there will be plenty of developers who capitalize on that by releasing games that are worth playing for reasons beyond having the coolest new 3D graphics. Even if the majority of current PC gamers end up moving to consoles or some sort of streaming-only device.

I'm not the hog who says capitalism isn't real because some western countries put a modicum of harnesses through two hundred years to avoid constant economic crises and limit them to a 40-60 years average.
Western capitalism implements minor socialist measures because capitalism literally can't stop killing itself without some socialist tardwrangling, which lo and behold is also what's happening right the fuck now with the ever growing deregulation trends that have been going on for around three decades and ended in yet another global economic crash.
Oh but sure, it's the jews' fault...who are also some of the biggest capitalists...totally not a systemic issue.

Things like UK's coal industry were becoming unfeasible, if not actively damaging because the state of the industry itself was obsolete and the government itself became too lazy and complacent, what the UK needed was actual introspection and serious long term investments in research and renovation.
What Thatcher did was fucking close everything down, privatize the shit out of nearly everything, up interests rate and deindustrialize entire sectors of the UK, which resulted into immediate massive unemployment and in the long run the sorry state the UK is in right now, where they can't produce fucking anything for themselves and even struggle to get some "high speed" railway done while China (with its entirely nationalized industries by the way) runs laps around them, all because that hellish neoliberal ghoul was out to fill her own pockets and fuck everyone else over.

those ram manufacturers already cashed in by selling ram to ai but what they miscalculated is that when those companies bancrupt they will be scraped by debtors banks that will be selling the ram from ai plants on ebay

here is when the fun begins:
that ram that those ai plants using aint some gaming rig top tier ram
its 20-30 times faster
DDR5-6000: ~48 GB/s per 64-bit channel
HBM3E: 1–1.5 TB/s per stack

of course they (used hbm3e ram) will still cost a bit more than normal ram after bubble pop
but since its nasa tier shit in compare to comercial ram those ram manufacturers end up shoting themselfs in the leg
with an rpg
because they wont be able to compeete with they own product that is now on the market for way less than production costs

That's it. That's the logic. It doesn't go any further than that. Everything is an ad-hoc justification. Games already tried out the subscription model with mmos. It worked until f2p games with cash shops started outcompeting subscription games, and now the only games with subs are games from the pre-f2p era, and even then their sub model only survives because they allow you to buy subscriptions with game currency. Anyone with experience in the industry could tell you this but we're talking about people who have never been involved in the industry whatsoever, not even as a casual bystander.
