>Windows 11 keeps getting worse and worse>MacOS still doesn't really have support for games>Linux runs 99% of games out there nowadaysSo why haven't you made the switch? Not to mention Microsoft recently announced that every Windows has a Global Device ID that you're unable to turn off, imagine still being on that spyware OS.
>>743945691I switched a few years ago to stop dealing with enshittification and illusion of choice to deshittify it. At this point I recognize Windows users as highly assuming and lazy in terms of ability to correct their own assumptions of how it works. Let them eat shit, they insist upon it.Also fuck every nigger that suggests meant because "muh bloat". A lot of that bloat makes shit "Just Work" and starting without knowing what you're missing is a good way to send someone straight back to Windows because some autist decided to make them walk a trial by fire in a shit distro with infrequent updates and years old discussion on any mundane problem vs something up to date and current.
But I'm already on Linux. Arch + KDE btw.
I hit my last straw today when my shitass windows computer kept opening the useless "task view" thing randomly when I moved my mouse to certain parts of the screen and it was super frustrating. Apparently the cause was having the dongle for my Razer gamepad plugged in and the only initial suggestions was to remove it and nothing elseThen I saw another suggestion that it was messing with my touchpad and activating multi-finger touchpad gestures somehow even though the touchpad was turned offObviously, it's impossible to turn off the "feature" itself without messing with the registryAt this point I fully accepted that Winblows is a piece of shit beyond repair and no amount of tinkering or reinstalling will put an end to all the bullshit so I'm biting the bullet and moving to Linux in a month or two.
>>743945691>Why have you not switched to Linux yet?But I have.
>>743945691Because I used to use it for about 16 years, got sick and tired of how godawful it was, and switched to Windows.
>>743945691Because I don't use Steam.Gaming on Linux just doesn't work without it.
>>743946325>Obviously, it's impossible to turn off the "feature" itself without messing with the registryAt this point Microsoft is a walking advertisement for Linux. I'm convinced they are breaking the user space just for fun.

>>743948475>I swear it's like you restarts know nothing unless some YouTuber tells you.Forget that, Linux retards literally only read the headlines about a rare issue on Windows that happens to 3 people in Uganda and now think it's happening to everyone and how you should now switch to Linux from Microslop
>>743948448Sorry rajar I don't want to use another broken distro where nothing that's needed for day-day life works
>>743947858I've never had any major problems with windows for the last 25+ years ive used it. It's only since switching to windows 11 2 years ago that I'm running into basic functionality failures on this slop coded piece of shit.It can't even tell the time properly without constantly being one hour behind, no matter how many times I switch it. The task bar icons are constantly disappearing, the cpu has to spin up just using the windows UI, casually browsing the internet uses over 16gb of RAM, search bar is beyond useless and now I have no standard way to find my fucking programs. They fucked up the right click menu which I'm reminded of every 5 minutes. Bitlocker triggers whenever I update my linux drive and if I hadn't prepared for that by backing up my code I would have lost all my data. Windows has also deleted my gpu drivers after forcefully updating, the fact that it forces updates is also annoying as fuck. Also, it crashes more than Linux. This is completely ignoring all the privacy invasions and the attempt to turn my PC into an AI data extractor. That company is collapsing under the weight of its own incompetence, I'm not sticking around to see how much worse it gets.
>>743945691I'm too depressed to make major changes in my life
>>743948475In Linux you can remove or alter the Machine ID completely, on Windows it gets reset with every forced update.
>>743948104Mac was usually the college laptop of choice, especially when it came to anything involving digital art. Colleges would even specifically ask that you use one, just to guarantee that you can actually run the software used in the course.Nobody wants to admit it, but Macs being locked to specific hardware actually has advantages, mostly that they can optimize the absolute FUCK out of the entire OS (and software) for the specific hardware it's installed on.
>>743948475>Doesn't every OS have this? Why do people single out windowsBecause Microsoft stores a copy of your original Global ID on their servers. On every update your registry gets reset and a query is sent to Microsoft to retrieve that original identifier. You better start believing in a global surveillance state, because you're living in one.
>>743948581My whole thing is people don't really care about actually being spied on, they just want to hate on windows. People must be seeing that Linux distros are beginning to adopt some not-so-great practices. The bigger Linux gets, the more it will attract attention from those we all know.
>>743948475Like how they kept talking about Copilot or AI code in Windows, meanwhile the fucking Linux kernel is being vibecoded now, Torvalds has descended into becoming a vibecoder, every distro is making their own agentic AI, and the fucking Linux Foundation itself started collaborating with OpenAI.
>>743948607I been on 11 for 5 year's with no issues. I don't believe you, there more to your story.

>>743948937Yeah you fucking do, you just don't care. Your right click menu absolutely hides basic functionality behind extra clicks, the rearranged windows menu no longer has a programs list and the search system is retarded, you just don't care. Memory usage expands depending on how much memory you have, if windows isn't wasting tonnes of it then you just don't have much to begin with. You don't live in the uk so it's not constantly confusing gmt and bst. You don't have bitlocker enabled so you aren't flirting with absolute disaster, I'm retarded for even using it but I have it enabled for valid reasons. The stuff I'm complaining about isn't all freak weird shit, it's also basic failures in design
the EA app broke again
I switched 4ish years ago, not going backMint on the laptop and Nobara on the desktop. The only thing that I have actual gripes with rn is modding and playing certain old titles. They barely work on windows but theres often little to no support for linux. Sim City 4 is one of em. It's a shame but I don't think having a windows install would fully fix that problem. The peace of mind of finally getting away from that shitty OS is priceless imo.
>>743946953>playing modern multiplayer slop with anticheatyou're cucked in more than one way friendo
Because troonix can't play Tarkov (the best game ever made), so it's worthless
>>743949391I've never faced problems like that. I work at a company with 1200 employees using Windows. Most of the issues, about 90%, aren't even related to Windows; they're just poorly designed applications we use that cause problems. Usually, when a Windows issue does occur, it's because someone at work messed up while pushing out updates.Shit HP drivers case more issues than windows. I think Linux is great but if nvidia drivers fucks my Linux system up (which has before) it's not the OS fault but the shitty drivers.
>>743949686How is Nobara? Hearing it's made by single developer is very off putting. Not a fan of Bazzite but like it's dedication to gaming..
>>743946494do you pirate? if not why are you even on pc? do you only play league or something?

>>743945691fedora or arch?
>>743949812I'm not talking exclusively about problems, I'm also talking about design failures you're fine with ignoring and I'm not. The fact that your company has a billion locked down machines that were set up by IT specialists on a corporate version of windows that isn't allowed to install anything is not an argument in favor of it. I'm not installing an OS to treat it like a work computer I don't own, every prior iteration of windows was usable as a normal operating system, Linux is usable as a normal operating system without fucking up constantly. The point of the OS is to run normal programs without fucking up
>>743949864Nobara has worked very well for as long as I've used it. Despite the single developer thing it constantly receives updates and the dev communicates with the userbase frequentlyIt's not retardproof like Mint but any common problem you have you can usually solve by searching online - the wiki and forums are thorough.Of course I cant make a perfect comparison since mint is running on my laptop but I would say it's worth a shot, it's solid
>>743950154NeitherFedoraisms are really annoying and you don't really get anything out of running base arch Limine also gets rid of the sole flaw of arch distrosThere's really no reason not to go cachy unless you want a passive and a layman facing computer

>>743950507This also isn't Instagram or tiktokIf you're at the point where you're interested in the innards of your pc you're not a layman
>>743950161My personal version of windows works fine Which is for gaming.. I never had a issue. I never treated it like work computer..
>>743949686Amethyst mod manager has made modding linux games just as easy as windows for me. It doesn't support every game but it covers the major ones, the other stuff I've had to mod were mostly manual but I could see it being annoying if you wanted to use something like fluffy mod manager.
>>743950846I'm hoping as the userbase grows + ages that the modding communities will naturally shift over too. I haven't heard of Amethyst before but projects like that are already encouragingWith games like simcity 4 it's basically running exes via wine/proton, pointing them at your game files and praying to your savior that the game will run. It took me days to get RE2+3 modded via RE:Enhance, absolute pain in the ass.
>>743950839What the fuck are you even arguing with me about? That you don't care about design faults that I do? That's not a randomly occuring issue, your right click menu is just as fucked as mine, your start menu is just as retaded as mine, your windows automatically updates like every windows 11 machine. Are you trying to tell me you haven't had issues with bitlocker, dual booting linux and UK time differences because you don't use those features and don't live in my country? No shit sherlock. The fact that you're riding microsoft dick so hard on everything else tells me you're probably also lying about windows wasting RAM, using a retarded amount of cpu power to run the basic UI explorer and other minor issues like vanishing taskbar icons.
>>743950736if you want the userbase to grow you need more laypersons - aka people trying to get the fuck away from windows. Pointing them to shit like Cachy as an initial distro is not helpful in the slightest despite how cool you think it is.
>>743951193these days games on a proper linux distro meant for gaming will just werk (if zero "anti-cheat" layer exists) however, stop using trash distros.
>>743951193I think it's relatively new, it's kind of hard to even Google it but its on nexus.Apparently the RE games are supported on amethyst. I'm currently using it to mod the shit out of cyberpunk and it works great. When I play requiem it'll be on linux so I'll have to swap over from using fluffy for all the resident evil shit, we'll see if it works.
convincing me to switch from windows the most popular os would take some serious convincing and quite frankly I don't give a fuck and I can avoid problems just sticking with windows and not being a hipster faggot

>>743951278I know, I'm not saying normalfags should be using cachyBut if you're here, you've already cleared the apathy threshold and you don't need to be corralled into mint/bazzite/steamos
>>743951332You mean mint, nobara, and steamOS?Older games that are barely usable on windows will not suddenly 'just werk' on linux, and getting them to work is significantly harder. It's often easier to just mod it on a windows PC and copy the files over to your linux PC.

I'm on win10 LTSC, things just werk for the most part so I have no reason to switch. I use Linux for my programming job and windows for vidya. I use the best tool for the job.Yes, proton runs the absolute majority of games just fine right now but the ergonomics of running pirated games in linux are still not beaten by the humble >unzip and click the .exeof windows. You always need some faggy launcher in linux, if it isn't steam then it's lutris or it's some wrapper shellscript written by some polish autist you just hope works (which never has a torrent swarm as healthy as the windows one). Also, both games I currently play the most are impossible to run on linux>league of legends (kernel-level anticheat)>heavily modded skyrim (it's already crashing constantly and just barely keeping ~50 fps, I don't want to bring the wine layer on top of it) Whenever win10 LTSC dies, idk hopefully win11 will have gotten a bit better, or maybe linux gaming has improved.

>>743966231Systemd hate is mostly retards going "new thing bad". The good thing is that if you don't like it, you can just replace it with anything else.
>>743966330Unix philosophy works only to a certain degree with simple tools. After a certain point it just becomes a hindrance. I do wonder why these people are unable to apply practicality on top of their philosophy.
>>743946297>you get a modern up to date os BUT you must update it daily or it won't work the next time you update>forget to update for a week>update>everything breaksarch really is the moguro distro
>>743973116i do arch updates on a laptop once a year if thatworks fine
>>743973334i lost like two arch installs for forgetting to update for two weeks one time and a month the next, switched to debian testing and I've been happy ever since
>>743973116The only thing that can break is the arch keyring chain of trust because the keys expired which means that the update just fails. Other than that things will continue to work. You can refresh the keys by installing archlinux-keyring.
>>743973396did you get filtered by the keyring?
>>743945691cachyos w/ windows on a spare disk for things that need windows + anticheat (so far, just destiny 2 and marathon). I barely ever boot into windows, so chances are I'll just reclaim that disk back at some point.
>>743949174Thank Billy Clits and Dubya for that... 9/11 was the excuse they wanted for the patriot act.
I moved to Android tablet and I'll be trying out Winlator for VNs.
>>743973856no, actual package breakage where i updated packages that expected smaller in-betwren updates that didn't happen so they refused to work
>see a Linux thread>read the text>it's actually another "poll non-Linux users for their opinion on Linux so we can debate them" threadRemember when we could just have a normal Linux gaming thread here? I guess everyone who posted in those threads just uses the /vg/ one instead, but I wish I didn't have to go to a 99% gachaslop board for this one thing.
>>743946564windows?...
I am on Fedora. Nvidia driver just werks. Also got my AI furry porn generator installed no problem. Never touching windows again
>>743953718PS5 runs on FreeBSD or something. I doubt it'll happen because no company would bother, but it's not impossible.
>>743947148Did it come to pc?
>>743974268can you name an example
>>743974454As time goes on the resistance to Linux will only shrink
How do we get people to use Vulkan? Shit just werks.
>>743975920it's been like three years so i don't remember
>>743976000Just waitValve is going to encourage its use without telling anyone Arm can't use directx so the developers will naturally switch to a universal API to accommodate Steam's expansion to armWho knows, maybe it'll result in consoles and apple adopting it too
I love linux but the reality is it isn't ready for prime time. It can play 99% of games, but barely any of the games normalfags actually play. Roblox, Fortnite, League (50% of the PC gaming market right there), COD, Valorant, etc. just don't run. 90% of gacha games don't run either without a bunch of hacks that could get you banned.I exclusively use Linux but it's crazy to imagine that someone's Roblox obsessed bf is going to switch over to Linux when the games people actually play just don't run. It's great for 30+ boomers like me who has a second computer to play those games with partner/etc, but not for everyone.
>>743974454The more people switch to linux the better the platform will getMore resources, modders, distros, compatibility options, etc.
>>743977053itll happen eventually, just give it time. by the time the 'big titles' get ported over they'll have no more excuses left focusing on fixing current problems like accessibility and centralized modding platforms should be the main focus. Can't do anything about kernel anticheat so who gives a shit
piss

>>743947858>Linux is easy to use but it can just break down out the blue one.I don't know where this bullshit comes from, something doesn't "just break down". Most distros are point releases (ever 2 years or ever 6 monthts) like Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and their forks. The base is mostly stable and the updates you get are minor version bumps, for bugfixes and security fixes.Yes, it's likely that something like this happens on Arch, but even popular forks like SteamOS ship stuff carefully and community distros like CachyOS have rollback implemented, where you can easily rollback to a working state within seconds. Just like bazzite, but you will likely never need it.Breakage happens mostly because of mis configurations. Linux is actually really stable and predictable. If you what you are saying would be true, no fucking company would ever use Linux.

I switched about a year ago. Last week I nuked the windows partition that I haven't booted up in about that much time. feels good man

August will be the first true month to see Machine adoption, right?
>>743982937>right?Yep, I can't wait.
>>743945691I did. It took about a week to backup and convert all of my hard drives into this ext4 bullshit so that I don't have to manually get them mounted every time, but I don't know enough about computers to understand the difference between it and the other storage formats.I'm also still trying to figure out the best way to set up my non-steam games. For some reason everybody online keeps saying to use Heroic and Lutris, but when I looked into them it says they require me to sign into my accounts through their launchers, and at least one of them says they use AI to "generate" your game installations. Then I learned you can just use Steam to run the installers and then point it at the real installation folder later, which is what I've been experimenting with right now. Got 1/230 of my GOG games reinstalled for linux so far.
>>743984227Holy based. Just stick to ext4 or btrfs. Heroic is good for some other game stores and trusted, works even on windows and mac. It's great for GOG classics.

>>743982937It can't be that high, estimates say 10-20k units per week, and it's been 4 weeks. It'll be like 50k units, not even noticeable.
