What were they forced to read?

No idea. It clearly didn't improve the game.

Not all books are equal. Doesn't this just guarantee they were reading light novel and YA slop to get through the mandated 100-200?

Books I've read had way more depraved content than any game I've played and those books were considered classics of literature
>>
>>744085025
at 50 pages an hour, 3 hours a day = 150 pages
x 365 = 54750, / 100 = 547.
You could finish 100 books at an average length of 540 pages. Most books are not that long. 200 books in a year is an average book length of 273. If you were mixing short novellas (>200 pages), books between 200 and 300 pages, and occasionally longer ones up to 600, you can feasibly read close to 200 books in a year.
I've finished 100+ in a year. It's not insane. Some days I don't read at all, and still manage it quite easily.
>>

Frankenstein (read it right before the dogshit movie came out)
CS Lewis - Till We Have Faces
Lolita
Dostoevsky - Netochka Nezvanova (unfinished but still very good)
Mike Mentzer American Odysseus (a must read if you're /fitlit/
Parasite Eve (not a favorite but I read it before playing the game, utterly bizarre book but makes sense since it was written by a pharmacologist and not an 'author')
I got into reading Jung and read a couple of his Collected Works.
Dickens - A Tale of Two Cities
Moscow to the End of the Line is an underrated druk classic

When you're just reading for a big fucking number then you're just not letting a book sink in. You immediately forget it and grab the next one to meet a quota
You start skipping shit because you're falling behind
This is the worst way possible to try and educate people especially since if they're going to be on a creative team they're all going to be pulling from half remembered disparate sources.
Why not just settle for making an in office book club where anyone can join but it's mandatory for the writers
Guided discussion and a conversation on themes, what works and what doesn't would go much further than just checking boxes and having no one actually confirm if you read them or anything.
>>
>>744086901
Depends on the literature. If it's a typical short story you can easily burn a book every 2 days. Doing a full analysis on the themes would take longer I suppose.
If they're getting paid to do it too it's not even an issue at all. Would be around an hour daily unless you had serious trouble with reading.

do you need to sit and take notes for an hour after every 2 hours of reading or something? what does proper comprehension look like to you?
>>
>>744086798
Because most people are midwits who think that reading is a task that consists on consuming a book from start to finish and nothing more. It's kind of funny because it's applying a completionist mindset to reading that videogames usually have. So /v/ is basically projecting the feedback loop of videogames to reading.
I'd rather read one book 10 times than 10 books a single time.

If there's a genre where "it took me X days to finish" shouldn't apply, it's philosophy.

The average contemporary book running roughly 250 pages in standard size print only takes me a couple days to read once I get invested honestly.
Obviously NOT ALL BOOKS ARE CREATED EQUAL in the sense that some are fucking long, but most books fall under 300 (standard) pages. Not every author is Sanderson or Bakker after all.
I don't know why people think reading a hundred books is a super difficult feat, it's hard to do that and have something meaningful to say about all one hundred books, but the point isn't to review them, it's to indulge them and gleam something from their text.

Most of you probably haven't even read a real book that wasn't derivative of Star Wars or some other massive franchise probably since you were 12 anyways, so you really would know nothing. I do have some recommended starter books for the average /v/ user if anyone wants to try actually reading
>Kizumonogatari (yes, by Nisio Isin, it's a book for teenagers and is simple to pick up and read)
>The Annotated Alice (a scholarly version of Alice in Wonderland)
>How Europe Underdeveloped Africa (slotting this one in here for fun, non-fiction)
>The Death Mage (another LN, probably appeals to the more base desires of some anons)
>The English Bible, KJV, The Old Testament (Norton Critical Edition)
>>
>>744087769
Did I claim I read all that in a year?
I've read 11 Guenon books, 5 in 2024 and 6 in 2025 (which isn't hard btw because most of his books are like 80-100 pages)
I've focused on Nietzsche this year and read everything he published, and just started Heideggers early works as in >>744087652
I probably won't read Being and Time this year.

The average adult reads at a pace of 238 words per minute. This number is likely weighed down heavily by a large number of non-readers within society.
The average book is around 85,000 words long.
Presuming you read at the mentioned standard pace with little deviancy, it would take you a little over 357.14 minutes to read the average book.
That is roughly five hours.
>b-but you BLITZED and didn't ABSORB
You will never understand any novel on your first readthrough in any significant way. You will be able to grasp vague ideas, but annotating and pontificating throughout the entirety of a first reading will sap both your attention span, as well as your ability to appreciate the work.

I imagine this disability people have comes from many of you, deep down in your heads, holding books up as an intellectual effort, worthy of more attention. They're not. You read them leisurely, taking in what your brain deems is necessary, and enjoying the writing. If you finish and enjoy the work, that is when you begin the process of annotating and delving deeper, holding dialogue with the author through their medium. But pausing midway through the author's argument (their novel) to do this, without experiencing the full breadth, is asinine and how you waste your own time.

You're ignorant of how fun reading a book you enjoy can be. The claim that reading books is automatically boring is ignorant because it is not true. Reading CAN be boring-- but not always. How many times do you play a video game and actually understand everything happening in it? I don't mean the dumbass half-baked plot that every game comes with, I mean the functionality of its designworks, the intentionality in things like character design, how you're introduced to game mechanics and setting ideas, stuff like that. Philosophy asks both the how and why to those principles though. It is also supposed to be self-reflective as well, so you go 'oh yeah I was a bit rude back then' or 'wait was I don't the wrong thing in that interaction?'. You may even change your mind on your stances on things in the world, like how you conduct relationships, arguments, socializing, etc. I personally learned a couple very important things reading some philosophy books that helped me in life I wouldn't have thought of by myself.
Ironically, I think the people that need philosophy books the most are the ones that will probably avoid them since it makes you self-reflect.

Societies current failings are a lot simpler than that actually.
It's mostly a few technocrats who got thrust into immense power due to being around at the right time (the Obama election campaign and administration) who are perpetually scared of death and being dethroned doing everything they can to prove their value and ingratiate themselves so far into the annals of government that they can't be removed (Peter Thiel is the most explicit example of this, to the degree where his company would lie about how helpful it was on things like the assassination of Bin Laden, and I'm sure most people here can connection Elon Musk to this).

There's also a significant rise in populism tied to these technocrats in a way that wasn't intended. Namely through news media discovering how easy it is to manipulate and drive attention in ways that are profitable, which goes back to Steve Bannon and his actions which propelled gamergate and saved Breitbart News from dying.
>inb4 "why is this only america??"

scitzobabble. society's current failings are derived from ww2 killing the will to live of western societies. they made hitler satan and decided that doing the opposite of whatever he did is good. which is why not forming families or having children and literally killing your own society is now considered morally good. but you are correct that it's very simple, just apparently still not simple enough for some people to realize it
though all the current transhumanist technocrats are obviously driven insane form fear of death and push all the singularity shit in order to create something that will hopefully let them become immortal somehow and they genuinely don't care about the future beyond their own lifespan. but that's just more anti-hitlerism. not caring about the future is "god is dead" in a nutshell and on steroids.

My teachers reprimanded me (can't have a kid being ahead I guess) so I just kept reading the same page over and over again until the loud reading caught up.
Over time I made it a habit and I kind of subconsciously read one page or chapter over and over, creating a mental image of what I'm reading. Sometimes the ideas form as diagrams that connect each other, sometimes it's a spatial image, like a room where subjects, characters or ideas take form.
It's kind of cool, honestly.

>calls reasoned, factual ideas schizobabbles
>insists on ideas primarily invented in his own head
The irony is that you did have me in the first few words, because WW2 is why America is in so much decay. WW2 was America's first, and only, truly great war. It's why it's held up so highly as America's war despite their resistance to joining in and their actions in the war primarily being remembered as just
>Completely obliterating a few million civilians and then doing it again
>Showing up on a beach
Which is nothing compared to the great wars of a lot of other countries.

The infatuation with WW2 is because it allows for the idea of how great America is to be perpetuated. It transforms from "America was a great ally in the war" to "America won the war", and that carries the country to the same table as other countries with centuries, if not millenniums of history behind them.
But instead, your post is about how people hate Hitler (which they should, he was legendarily retarded and you should be infatuated with smarter dictators) and that's why people don't have kids (and not because you can jerk off to anything you want at anytime you want, and you can't even afford a house, let alone school, food, and clothes for a child).

To be fair, there are more layers to the story in the second playthrough that aren't present in the first. And to be fair again, many people aren't going to do a second playthrough nor should they have to do a second playthrough to get the full picture. I do hope future Silent Hill games don't do that approach again, its not fun.
>>744089698
I am getting more of an impression that people who don't like reading books think that reading books makes you smarter (for some reason), so they take offense to others reading books trying to better themselves. In reality, book reading is a hobby like video games. People read books for a variety of reasons, mostly to entertain and/or get different perspectives in life. Unfortunately the people that don't like books probably are like that because their exposure was only through school, having to read stories they didn't enjoy for a grade instead of out of entertainment. Books aren't better or worse than video games as a medium, they are different.
I hope they someday they go out of their shell and pick a book for fun to read that they'll also enjoy. Same for book people who look down on video games, for them to pick a video game they'll like and enjoy it.

That 'so is', is a blatant self-help book. That puts you on a level below even biography reading pinheads. And the example you yourself give is, unfortunately, a mere multi-character biography posing as a deeper work, but really that is itself obscuring the reality, that it too is a self-help book for unaffected artists looking to ape the works of notables, but at least it hides the fact, as all embarrassing works should. If you're going to start touting self-help books, nothing can be done for you, you lack that essential, undefinable quality of a human being.

>>744090056
>argues that the technocratic NWO is a casuality
Yeah it is. The belief in shadow groups masterminding everything for millennia and having perfect control is a fantasy. A fiction. We see these people try and plant seeds and fail in real time (like with Thiel and Vance, Musk ingratiating himself with the Trump admin to advance his own interests and his own ego, or the one successful case of Gates openly buying up acres of farmland for years as AI was slowly ramping up in the background before OpenAI blew the lid and started a race).
And their motivations are plainly obvious, the motivations of the elite always are. It's often just hedonism and fear of their own mortality.
>argues that media being profitable goes back to Steve Bannon
Not what I said. My point was that he initiated the current wave of populism through his knowledge of lower, non-politically inclined groups (in this instance, gamers, which he became aware of through his years of selling literally WOW gold).
>completely misunderstands gamergate
No, what I said was a factual read of it. How you experienced gamergate might've been significant to you, but the reason it got pushed so far in the media was because a media group was actively nurturing and pushing it. Moot was even open about it in his last streams, how groups were coming in to ignite anons in certain directions- and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that Bannon, who already had employed serfs to farm WOW in the past, and Milo, an employee of Breitbart who was openly active on 4chan, were behind that.
The goal of gamergate, at the start, might've been something different, but its push into the mainstream was done to save Breitbart and give Bannon the career boost he needed to eventually ingratiate himself with Trump during the republican primaries.

We also saw that plan fail for him since he was ousted in 2017 because the guy's a slimy used car salesman type.

>technocratic NWO is not a mastermind plan
Never claimed that, there's a difference between groups desiring a shared outlook even though the end result is ideologically different. On the other hand, you use the Thiel mafia as a scapegoat for this causality when it's a fact that social media was engineered as a voluntarily surveillance system. Right before facebook was announced, DARPA abandoned LifeLog and Total Information Awareness which aimed to do exactly what facebook did. There's a difference between going into platitudes about the Luciferian AI NWO Matrix system jargon and actually recognizing the fact that social engineering has been occuring since methods of mass media distribution have been available and to what end those systems are being implemented.

Then you do a laughable claim about a "factual read" on gamergate when you are just spreading propaganda which takes advantage of a couple of opportunists. Gamergate blew up because 4chan uncovered how mainstream media was completely taken over by DiGRA as another method of social engineering and how videogames would be the #1 method of mass media distribution in the future, which made glowniggers panic and create the "Gamers are dead" campaign, which proved how much power these shadow organizations had over the dissemination of public opinion to the point where the coordinated campaign was even pushed in small, obscure gaming publications in non-English language.

Again, you are clueless.
