In 1997, when I was but 23 years old, I was a very angry person. I destroyed my own social world. I hurt a lot of people emotionally, financially, and physically. I was a violent, unstable bully. Most of my family never forgave me and none of my friends ever did. Now I'm just a lonely old man whose life is still lonely and cold and gray because I completely nuked all my social connections 30 years ago.During this time, Final Fantasy VII was my main source of happiness. Christmas 1997 was really painful for me. I tried to go to the family Christmas party, where my parents met me on the front porch and told me that I wasn't allowed inside the house. I didn't have a family anymore, so I went home to the tiny trailer I lived in at the time and played FF7. Spending time with everyone in the game made me feel a lot better. They were my new family.I moved out of the trailer and into my own home in 2001. But I play FF7 at least once a year. It was there for me during my darkest years and will always be my favorite videogame.

It is the greatest video game of all time for sure, anon. I have a huge nostalgic connection to it as well and I was 18 at the time I played it. Most games I'm super nostalgic about I played between ages 8-15. And even without that attachment it's still the best Final Fantasy and MOGS 10. 6 and 9 are close though. I stopped being that way by 1998 only because I was so bad in 1997 that everyone cut ties and I had nobody to abuse anymore. By 2003 I was greatly mellowed, but it was too late. I lost my family and I lost my friends. I was in a relationship from 2008-2011, but after she cheated on me and left me for someone else I became hermetic.

>>744164242I know what you mean. I booted up Rebirth these days, and it felt like home. Being in Nibelheim with Cloud, Tifa and Sephiroth really brought me back. I stayed in Tifa's room for hours just playing their themes on the piano. I have a good relationship with my family actually, but the FFVII crew does feel like a secondary family. Not just FFVII, there's a couple of other games that do this for me, like FFIX, Tales of Symphonia, Star Ocean 3, etc.
