>game is super fucking good
>loading into matches is slow + the super fucking awkward loading screen at the end into multiplayer battle barge into quit back to your barge so you don't have to wait for 2 dickheads to back into queuing for a match, to FINALLY getting into another match is so ass
also the dripfeed of cosmetics that are gw approved is also ass, i want more stripe patterns
>>
I finished the campaign. I heard there are more story missions in one of the PvE game modes. Which missions are actually good? Don't care about multiplayer.
>>
>>744173596
operations are ones that follow the stuff your squad was doing during the campaign
>>
>>744173782
Are they in chronological order and I play them from top to bottom?
>>
who's gonna be the main enemy of the sequel anyway, more chaos? orks again?
i know they kinda teased the necrons a bit in the story but GW has a boner for only making necrons and ad mech fight eachother and no one else
>>
>>744172160
40k is foidslop now, women love it
>>
Literally every video game ever is "moidslop" because all video games are made for men (the only audience that plays videogames)
>>
Bought it last sale and played through the campaign with a friend. Fucking amazing game.

Now that we are moving on to operations, I wish we had more generic gear pieces. Almost everything you can equip has some fucking hyper-specific chapter imagery that looks out of place in any other chapter.
>>
>>744173782
First five are chronological order and canon for the main story, next eight are just loosely slotted in for missions to play and don't affect the narrative
As a general rule chaos missions are a massive pain in the dick, Decapitation is best for levelling if you can reliably beat the hive tyrant, inferno is next best if you can't
>>
>>744172387
Space Marine 1s combat is NOT better. Melee is completely invisible because on hard difficulties chaos space Marines will just kill you before the execution finishes so you spend the whole game sniping with a lascannon

>>744172387
Shit fucking taste. SM1 was too boring for me to even finish
>>
>>744172387
SM1 has the advantage of guns actually being functional but completely breaks down at higher difficulties because you have zero defensive tools and enemies will absolutely mulch you long before you finish an execute
It was a fun game but even on normal difficulty the later encounters grind to a halt if you're just using a normalish loadout as tankbustas and CSM make it impossible to stand in the open
>>
>>744175127
Necrons for the first 20% of the game, then Chaos

>>
Why don't any of the fans seem to have issue with the setting and the way GW has made it completely safe and boring? The setting is supposed to be grimdark, it literally invented the term, yet they also want it safe enough to appeal to the widest audience possible

>>
Personally, I wish for Necron and Nurgle, but they probably don't want two brick factions.

It's probably going to be Necron/Eldar, and suck.

>>744175701
Because everyone understood the grimdark was cool but cringe, like a trenchcoat. We all grew out of that, except defective people like you.
>>
>>744175726
I get why GW does it, but I don't get why the fans are so supportive and why any negative reaction to GWs actions is met with "uh you're just an incel neckbeard grognard"
>>
>>744175701
It's still an extremely broad setting anon, you can have your nobledark rage against the dying of the light story, you can have your grimdark and nothing mattered and the eldritch abominations raped their souls forever, and you can have Orks racing each-other in exploding rockets.

That said I hate Herohammer and how big events now are just Primarchs and named characters killing or banishing them until next week, it's Marvel shit. We used to have big lengthy agony like Vraks with multiple stages of war and campaigns were described like an actual theatre. That's what I want more of.
>>
>>744175784
Because if you're a part of a thing you grow up along with that shit and what they grow into is either something that doesn't bother you so you stick around, or you don't like how they grew up so you grow distant. To stick around if you don't like how the other party has changed is pure mental illness.
>>
>>744174663
The first 8 are, yes. You know how Titus would ocassionally talk to a secondary team and coordinate with them? Like when he was on vox with the other squad in order to divert the tyranid swarm into a valley so they could release prometheum into it, or take down a bridge in order to destroy the hive tyrant, or flip all the obelisk effigies upside down in the last mission? You play the guys doing that stuff. Operations 1-8 are essentially a collection of vignettes that don't get the same cinematic/story treatment as the main campaign, but follow the secondary squad through the events of Titus' campaign.

Saber also started releasing additional operations after launch. There are just a grab-bag of standalone missions. They each have their own little story though, and I quite enjoyed a couple of them. Operation 09, Exfiltration, might be my favorite one, and it follows the story of two techpriests who had a falling out when one dipped too far into tech-heresy and you're sent in to pry her out of her desert fortress. Both of the tech priests interact with you and trade insults with each other during the course of the mission, it's pretty fun.
>>
>>744176287
>The first 8 are
Ballistic engine and termination have zero reference to the main story, obelisk does but obelisk also fucking sucks

The only operation that really sucks is the one with the like clockwork dragon boss.
In fact I'd go even further and say any operation with a boss is kind of shit, even if it's just for the duration of said boss.
Yes I got filtered by the hive tyrant.
>>
>>744176362
isn't balistic engine the squad that blows up the hive city after titus gets the tech priest in the earlier levels?
>>
>>744176545
>The only operation that really sucks is the one with the like clockwork dragon boss
Fuck no Reliquary is not worse than obelisk or vortex
Hell, it might also be above purgation
The only pure chaos mission that's reliably above it is Fall of Atreus and that's because it has the least amount of waiting or bullshit mechanics like the darkness jammed in
>>

Unrelated, ballistic engine starts 1 minute prior to "Servant of the Machine God" starting and every line said by titus in Ballistic Engine doesn't exist while he's fighting the neurothrope and getting bitched at by galadriel
I mean you could tell that just by the fact that it was added post release and is numerically after fall of atreus but chronologically before it.
>>744176841
Except for the darkness sapping your hp constantly
>>
>>744177050
Anon, it plinks a fraction of your armor and you are not lacking in shitty mobs you can whack > pistol execute to replenish a full bar at a time. If you have a techmarine with the 2 bars per majoris execute perk you can pretty much abandon whoever is carrying the relic.
>>
>>744177147

and then not progress because you need to place the relic down to open the doors
it doesn't fucking matter whether its easy to ignore the darkness saber forces someone to eat shit and drag it along

Vortex is still my vote for worst map by a mile. Even aside from the vortex beast, the alternative layout with the room that superheats and requires you to hide behind cover to avoid taking damage is completely fucking broken. Most of the pillars specifically placed to act as hard cover... DON'T ACT AS HARD COVER. So you lose all your health while being chased by the meatballs that your team mates couldn't kill. The generator room also burns a hole through my skull with the amount of time it takes and the absolute lack of cover when getting back to the generator. Absolute failure of a map from top to bottom.

Because the setting is whatever the fuck you want it to be, it grew beyong GW and they are completely irrelevant, just like D&D, you pick the lore and edition you like and play that/consider that the only canon.
>>
I'm only 40 hours in and currently playing solo in substantial difficulty but jesus fuck man, this is probably the only game where I feel completely exhausted after finishing an Operation. I love it.
>>
>>744177309
its really a tossup between it and obelisk though i haven't played enough of purgation to judge it yet (since some rooms of that shit drop my FPS to single digits for zero reason)
>>
>>744177397
>the setting is whatever the fuck you want it to be, it grew beyong GW and they are completely irrelevant
This

It's the key to a good campaign, ignore as much of GW as you can.
>>
>>744172387
Agreed, the arkham asylum play style is atrocious.
>>
>>744175784
I just play old editions (specifically 2nd and 4th) with new models and ignore stuff I dont like to the best degree I can. For example I can ignore Titus being primaris and just see it as being another marine. I can ignore the herohammer stuff and enjoy the small scale stuff. Yes I get annoyed at GW for fucking stuff up but they also make enough cool shit that I can enjoy the setting I grew up with.
>>
>>744177430
Purgation gets redemption just by virtue of having substantial nids sections. But it's also clearly unfinished with the last section likely intending to have a 1v3 with the terminator sorcerer which they couldn't figure out how to make until over a month later.
>>
>>744177221
>how often do you play absolute and just get to spam sprint attacks into gunstrikes against gors and not get ass raped by rubrics and meatballs?
If you've got rubrics that will "ass rape you" then that's even more safety armor wise because you don't need to do a gun strike when you can do an execute where you're fucking invulnerable through the animation.
>>
>>744177586
>If you've got rubrics that will "ass rape you" then that's even more safety armor wise because you don't need to do a gun strike when you can do an execute

some random fuckass rubric starting the untelegraphed stomp attack off-screen from behind you and somehow taking 75% of your health bar qualifies for "ass rape" and is of little fault to the player at that point. chaos has too many bullshit factors to account for. it's almost.. chaotic.

I'm just going to say it.
Fighting thousand sons is boring, it's not satisfying to kill them because they are dust and they don't banter with you. At least Tyranids are bloody carnage, and you kill the horde by going for the Synapse leaders which is cathartic in a fight.
Thousand Sons it's watch this can opener finisher for a thousand times.

SM2 melee combat is better. But SM1 ranged combat was infinitely more enjoyable.

Why the fuck they insist that every gun needs more than a few shots to kill anything is beyond me. This is a self made problem, its solved entirely by simply increasing damage dramatically and decreasing ammo drastically.
>>
>>744178416
saber knows very well people want this and specifically chose to force people to fight chaos
>>

No. I've had it up to here with Neurothropes in tunnels killing entire teams on Absolute or Hard Stratagems. I literally prefer chaos now. Fuck nids.

The devs are fucking retarded for not explaining any of the changes to operations for newbies coming right out of campaign. There's little to warn you about weapon damage scaling, melee types, and new enemy compositions resulting in a huge difficulty spike. Then they gate difficulty for everything EXCEPT the hard stratagem and siege modes, an act which by now must only be construed actual malice.

Protip, If you've taken big damage and don't have an execution or gunstrike at the ready, use your ranged weapons for contested health recovery. The pitiful amounts you get back in melee is such an insane oversight.

>>744178549

I swear to god they balanced all ranged weapons around auspex scan. Having to dump half a mag of bolter into the head of your standard majoris is such a boner killer. Or Metla guns needing more than one shot to clear out minoris. They should have leaned into overwhelming hordes instead damage sponge enemies with gay frametraps.
>>
>>744178594
NTA, but i want the default gear, with purity seals.
i want pauldrons i can still put an insignia on, but with purity seals and not gravis or phobos mark.
i want corvis, mk6, any of the classics, without paying $20 in DLC.

I remember when I first started doing ops, just the description of Absolute difficulty was scary. Fighting extremis-class enemies would reliably raise my heart rate. A couple thousand dead tyranids later, getting jumped by a lictor isn't even something worth pinging any more, and Absolute becomes the only difficulty you can't breeze through. It's a very cool feeling realizing you've become a bug-killing machine.
>>
>>744179252
one of my mates got mad at me on ruthless because when they pinged a lictor i didn't immediately stop in my tracks, plant a flag and wait for us all to gank it.

meanwhile i was fighting another lictor AND a ravener at the time, i just hadn't bothered pinged them as a threat.
perfect party power fist my beloved.
>>
>>744179180
My auspex scan, how I have it set up is tripling the damage dealt. It really is a very big difference. And yes the enemies are simply too tanky on absolute even with headshots.

It's the same genre of squad-based PvE horde stuff. The gameplay itself is very different, and is centered around a mix of gunplay and a kind of parry/dodge melee system of the kind that you see in every third person action game since Sekiro came out. There's a couple of classes that are explicitly melee classes, who come equipped only with sidearms. So, big-picture, it exists in the same genre as Helldivers, but the actual gameplay is a totally different thing, closer to a third person action game than an actual shooter. In Helldivers, your dive is mostly there to avoid getting stomped. In Space Marine, you're expected to actually beat the shit out of the enemies. The missions themselves are also less open world, with scripted boss fights or encounter areas.

NOTE: My Helldivers info is very dated. I haven't played Helldivers since a few months after release, so for all I know they've added a robust melee system.

You're going to get a lot of coping 40k fags telling you SM2 is better but in reality it isn't, if you like space marines it's fun but HD2 is objectively better and the playercount difference is proof on its own.
>>
>>744184882
even the single player alone is worth it when it goes on sale, its just very impressive spectacle that has nice graphics

if you're a grindy type of person that likes 40k this game is for you for the other modes
>>
just bought this game and it feels really bad to play. Constant loading screens to do anything multiplayer (I joined a game where I had to move a cart and there was no explanation what to do and we got it close to the end but then it started going backwards so a guy got on mic talking in polish then just left and I just alt f4ed after far too long on that mission). Ranged enemies have no counter in certain scenarios. Lack of healthbars mean I don't know what I should be doing for most damage. The combat feels really weird in general. Sometimes I die for seemingly no reason, 3 warriors focus me from all sides or something, then I go again and instakill everything in melee and get all my health back.

>>744184882
Can't speak for HD2 which I only hear fans of being miserable after however many updates made it worse after launch. Operations in SM2 are basically Space Marine fashion between missions each with a linear narrative, that have some minor variation with events and sometimes blocking off one of two pathways on top of an AI director, and they go for a fair while too.

What's there is mostly fine I guess? There's plenty to keep someone dedicated to be busy with and the gameplay has a few unusual quirks for better or worse. The other current alternative for grindy 40k chop and shot is Darktide.

What I find interesting about the game is that for how much it is supposedly the big violent macho manly game for chuds where all the characters are constantly angry about heresy and suspecting each other of committing heresy, it's actually crazy just how "nice" everyone is to each other. The characters are constantly apologizing to each other for being in the wrong, superior officers don't belittle their subordinates and always ask them for suggestions even if they don't like them personally, The big squad conflict is ultimately resolved by Titus having a heart to heart that results in everyone becoming friends and hugging, etc. I think it might just be the fact the characters talk relatively normal instead of exclusively in sarcastic irony laden quips that make everyone seem like a petty asshole like modern writing usually demands.

I only wish to start the next game with Chaos, hopefully Word Bearers, and end with Necrons. Though frankly this type of game needs a thrid faction to bounce off of. So hopefully they keep Tyranids again with all the Space Marine 2 assets around.
>>
>>744189513
I doubt it'd have that set up. Both SM games throw "rush down heavy faction followed by somewhat balanced mix faction" at you and the word bearers aren't rushdown heavy. Necrons aren't either so I don't know if they'd be the opening faction of SM3.
>>
>>744179780
They confirmed they’re doing a Deathwatch champion skin for year 3 and by that time hopefully add more free unlockable cosmetics to properly make it full. Plus you’re getting the real deathwatch arm today even.
>>
>>744172160
Finally bought the cosmetics last week after 500 hours of game time. Felt a bit dirty at first, don't like spending money for such frivolity.

Recreated almost perfectly the Crimson Fist on the front of the 3rd edition codex, and made a Legion of the Damned scheme and armour set up ready for the new heroic meltagun and firey powersword that are dropping today.

Feel better about the purchase now. I find it odd that in all my hours I've never seen anyone else rocking these aesthetics.
>>
>>744188476
Well yes, you have just experienced a story written about normal functioning adult men. Rare indeed in today's world isn't it? There's advantages to the studio and presumably the head editor and director above the writers being in the East rather than the West.
>>
>>744172160
Why is it so hard for them to release just a decal pack? I don’t need a full cosmetic pack or anything, I just want to properly rep certain chapters. Like how am I expected to recreate chapter emblems like the Star Phantoms?

i didn't enjoy this game as much as i hoped, i don't care too much for stories in games, but the campaign was short, and the rest of the modes boil down to pointless cosmetic grinding
i would have strongly preferred a stronger narrative, maybe instead of just fending off imurah and dealing with the politics of titus's past, it would have been cooler to also contribute to the development of infrastructure in new territory and contribute to the repair of damaged colonies, while also fighting off new threats, like continued pressure from tyranids, chaos, orks, necrons

SM2 multiplayer is linear missions that are decently crafted and voiced in squads of 3 people with 7 classes to choose from but you can't bring the same class twice in an operation. It focuses more on melee, while weapons are still very serviceable in the hands of the right classes. The graphics are way better and the devs aren't antagonistic little shits. While it is fine to have your vision of the game and go through with it even if the playes dislike it, mocking them for it is going a step too far but the Swedish hubris prevents them from having any humility.
Helldiver 2 maps are procedurally generated but make no mistake it doesn't mean there will be much variety because the objectives you have to do on said maps always end up being the same type such as reactivating a lidar (radar) station, destroying a facility, calling a hellbomb on a jammer or better yet just fucking skipping the whole thing by using your own portable hellbomb, etc etc... It gets stale after a while. Gameplay wise it is unlike SM2 very firearm oriented and melee is just an afterthought even if you can make it work if you really want to like using a ballistic shield in one hand + melee in another hand with the right armors boosting melee damage but a lot of people just snipe objectives with long distance explosives or lasers to just quickly get rid of small side objectives and go on with the mission. It is badly optimized compared to sm2 and suffer from a fucking smoke issue where half of your fights will be in super low visibility biomes with smoke everywhere and the smoke doesn't even look good even on ultra settings. DLSS and DLAA were recently added but so poorly done that the ghosting is insane so you have to pick your poison between TAA shimmering or DLAA ghosting. The game is heavily cpu bound anyway and made my 14700k thermal throttle on a few occasion despite having a good AIO and being able to stay under 80°c during a 30 mn cinebench stress test.

Warhammer has one sole thing that is keeping it heads above water every other pop culture setting.
Its characters are totally invested. They are not giving wry comment or leaning on the fourth wall. This is real to them. The death metal album they are living in is real to them. That is what sells it.

Space marine chapters are all about brotherhood and duty. They're inspired by religious knighthood after all. It's perfectly in line with how they are characterized and written elsewhere. Even chaos marines still show some level of care for their brothers. World eaters had a short story where their captain laments how the lack of enemies and the butchers nails are tearing his legion apart. All the while they're escorting a lone marine from a different chaos faction.

Ultramarines were at their best in the 4th edition version. A chapter that was forced to specialize, and thus stop being completely codex complaint, because of mounting losses after the Tyrannic Wars. It's literally what Space Marine II is about, except it doesn't do it in the woke man-hating sense.

Titus keeps acting like a smug self righteous cunt who thinks that him knowing that he's loyal should be enough for everyone and no one has any right to pry into the extremely suspicious shit surrounding his person.
It's to the point where the player is left wondering if Titus really is corrupted in a less overt way.
Then, in a subversion of subversive Hollywood troops, his squadmates manage to get through to him and they talk it out.

In another scene that has >oh no this guy is falling to Chaos written all over it, the black guy is separated from the squad and goes on a rampage, but instead of that happening he gets a stern talking to from the squad and it's all cool from there. The squad realizes he was nowhere near losing control, black guy realizes he shouldn't do shit that makes his friends think he's lost it.

>>
>>744194304
Anon, look up the definitions of a parody, a satire, and a farce.
>>
>>744194403
Maybe you should. WH40K doesn't fit any of those definitions. Just because a setting has an occasional satirical element, a character that is a parody, or a farcical situation doesn't suddenly make the entire setting a satire, a parody, or a farce. Only a retarded autist would think that, because retarded autists have a bad habit of committing the fallacy of composition on every single thing they see.
>>
>>744194403
Maybe you need to look them up because having fun with something does not mean making fun of something. I get that lefties are too far up their own ass to understand this but nothing in warhammer criticizes its underlying concepts of duty, sacrifice, brotherhood, a united humanity persevering against overwhelming odds or even religion. I know you'll harp on religion specifically because you don't know the setting. Everything in warhammer is justified and the strength you gain from belief is not only real in a mental way but physically as well.
>>
>>744194545
Anon, the chaos gods are literally a critique on human vices and corruption, the entire setting is a ridiculous exaggeration. Those are two key parts of satire. The over the top characters are key elements of a farce.
>>
>>744194664
You're stretching the definition of what a satire is to a degree that the meaning of the word becomes useless.

>>744194651

>>744194912
Yes, they intended for starship troopers to be a satire and then malded because the underlying concepts they thought were inherently funny still deeply resonated with large parts of the population. Even then there's still clear signs of the intention of it being a satire. Warhammer was always intended to be a boys over the top dream and is missing the satirical/sarcastic tone of starship troopers.

Finally.... I love the Emperor. Praise Him and death to all His foes
>>
>>744197994
Guilliman gets the only sword with the Emperors fire on it, because it brings true death to Daemons as it's right from the Anethema.
But any old fire should be just as fucking fine for a sword what is that logic? Shall we outlaw bullets because only Guilliman gets those too?
>>
>>744197994
I mean it makes sense, if you aren't a psyker you can't have a flaming sword and even then they aren't exactly common, you have to go out of your way to make the fire happen with your psychic powers.

I still desire a new Eldar game.

I paid like $45 for this even while on sale and I got 10 hours out of the campaign, just barely. I tried the PvP and it was atrocious and barely anyone played.

Not sure what the fuss about this game was when it came out.
>>
>>744198530
the online PVE is the meat
I got 2 classes already fully prestiged
>>
>>744198439
Who's to say you couldn't just carry around some charcoal pine resin or turpentine to anoint your blade?
>>
>>744198530
40k fags have no standards at all, show them shiny new paid cosmetic anything and they’ll get on their knees and let you creampie their asshole, same with this game.
>>
What do you guys think the next class they release will be? I'm hoping for Librarian.

>decapitation stratagem

Prolly chaplain.
>>
>>744198610
Because space marines don't have pockets
>>
>>744198705
heavily hinted to be a chaplain, while I would love a libby I think it's highly unlikely to happen, the game doesn't really support that kind of gameplay.

>>

If starting out, usually for the classes that you’re leveling. For example when Techmarine came out, they released a heroic omni axe at the same time. So getting that heroic axe was a smart play for leveling because while you don’t get all the perks you usually get from leveling weapons to relic tier, the heroic weapons do have relic tier stats so you don’t have to grind with basic bitch weapons with basic bitch stats. So it doesn’t hurt to pick a melee weapon or a side weapon that most classes uses. Doesn’t matter too much you’ll be getting enough either way slowly but surely if you stick to the brain dead shit or pretty quick if you do the actual hard content each week too.

that new patch didn't add changing colors for the penitent pattern right..?
so many cool badab colors you can almost do besides the arms missing any way to do patterns
>>
People loved the first game, after this came out I barely hear anyone even mention it outside of /v/, what the fuck gives?
>>
>>744200073
I think at this point they’re saving that shit for Space Marine 3. They know something like that will be a selling point and not as free dlc for a game thats already proven to be a huge success. If they really wanted to, a simple librarian wouldnt be that hard to create.
>>
>>744200607
First game was a pulpy 40k story full of fun campiness and action movie shenanigans couplee with decent MP.
Second game is a deliberate shillfest focused on wanking Marines as they mow down hordes of bland uninteresting blobs as the campaign speeds you into the Operations Mode grind, with a tacked-on MP mode that wasn't meant to even ship with the game.
>>
>>744200678
It will also probably be a little closer to the scope of the game that will presumably also reveal whatever powers titus secretly has
>>
Can you do operations reliably with bots? I put like 100 hours in back when the game came out, and thinking about starting again, but don't feel like playing with other people

>ancient more elite than elite dying race fighting pitched battles where countless die
>lore has them engineer events to ensure not this doesn't happen, it keeps happening because this is a Wargame
Eldar lore has always been incoherent.
>>
>>744172217
Never, the point of Warhammer is that everyone sucks but secondaries who only play the games dont realize that
>>
>>744202965
>more elite than elite
Eldar soldiers are shit tier and their generals will literally break down crying in the middle of a battle if their feelings get hurt.
Nothing about Eldar is 'elite'.

melee focused class that will (probably) buff your allies.
>>744200073
And that's boring as fuck, if they are going to make a psyker class make it unique, otherwise might as well make something else that fits the game better.

>>744205519
>melee focused class that will (probably) buff your allies.

so bulwark
sounds good to me. I need another melee based class thats not assault meme

I mean it is really easy its just tedious. You have to go really slowly through missions and for bosses keep running away for 20+ minutes. You can cheese most of DOW2 with Cyrus to the pointy of almost doing missions solo with him. Tarkus can also be made basically invulnerable. The only useless unit is Thaddeus and thats because he dies too fast even on lower difficulties.
>>
>>744184368
tomoko isn't just gay, she's lesbian
>>
>>744206642
thats pretty much exactly what I am doing. It really isnt that bad since everything dies fast as fuck. Cyrus with nades is fucking hilarious since they dont agro once you have the perk so I hit 100% of the time
