I grew up from the multiplayer stuff and it doesn't affect me on Linux, but I still have a big problem. One is piracy, pirating games on windows is as simple as clicking a .exe or mounting an iso. Same with modding, unless you are using steam workshop modding on linux require way more steps. Like, I'm aware that a Linux mod manager just released, but it's still very fresh. And other thing is modding switch games, it's a very difficult rocess on linux. I still hate windows, I'm buying a lot of games I pirated on steam to switch to linux on the near future after I can no longer use Windows 10 IoT LTSC in 2032.

>>744216193>I had to update 3 times today. That isn't what is happening. You had multiple bands of updates is all. Some updates require service restarts or system reboots after a prior update before the next in the chain can be done. This happens when you avoid updating for a significant period of time or use an old image to install. The same thing used to be common in Windows until Windows 10 when they improved their cumulative updates (rollup updates that contained all previous and such) but even Windows still requires it from time to time with their SSUs. And YES you DO want them. Otherwise you shouldn't be using a bleeding edge rolling-release distro. That is the purpose of such a distro, that you're always on the cutting edge of software chasing performance and new features. If you don't want that there are alternative stable release distros. But all of the good gaming distros are going to be rolling-release model, even PikaOS which is on the "test" Debian (rolling release model). Personally outside of the server environment stable LTS builds have no business existing. Open source software is at its best when development is ongoing and things are in a constant state of being improved/fixed.

>>744227762because it varieson balance there is going to be a cost for the translation layer. Instances where Linux is objective faster usually have something to do with file system reads. DirectStorage was supposed to address this in Windows, but last I looked any game that used is just stuttered like shit to the point of being nearly unplayable. It was never a problem on Linux, because ironically, it didn't support it. Instead of having the GPU directly access and decompress assets, Linux was having the CPU do all of that, then forwarding the results on to the GPU, where most benchmarks let GPUs run flatout, meaning the GPU load from texture decompression becomes noticeable. In practice?tl;dr it's complicated, depends entirely on system configuration, CPU overhead, GPU utilization, etc, etc.I have been on linux about a year and a half now. On balance, I haven't looked back. If there were a performance penalty, I didn't feel it, and what I traded in frequent Windows system updates (notoriously containing bugs), I gained in updates whenever the fuck I feel like it, which generally apply faster, and with 100% fewer nagging (have you made backups with onedrive?)Fuck windows. 2 or 3 FPS tax has been worth it, pretending it was even there in the first place.
