"I'm dying from an aggressive form of cancer that all our technology cannot cure. However we do have a technology that can make an exact copy of me that can take my place and seamlessly continue to lead after my passing. I briefly considered putting you in charge after knowing you for all of two days but it was obviously a bad idea as we have no way of knowing your allegiances and you have been spending a lot of time with the Brotherhood, our mortal enemies."

For me its only possible to play with all guns modded. Starfield is no better either, someone there needs to study guns. Even for scifi they are bad. Like wtf is the plasma rifle? Why is there a bunch of oddly placed pistons on it? Why do they insist on having exposed wires all over the shit. Goofy toy shit.

No, there is no hypocrisy. Tehcnically yes Shaun could make a Synth clone of himself and this Synth just replicates forever to rule the institute.

Idk if he would be into it, if he hasn't done it, it means that no he is not.

nobody in Bethesda wrote anything about this plot hole. Frm what I understand The Institute are human supremacists but from Reddit University only, aka they only like other eggheads. Who the fuck knows how Dr. Li got in there.
>>

the brotherhood is literally just the institute in reverse

signs point to him being an arrogant prick who resented not being in consideration for future leader of the Brotherhood in the CW despite his namesake (sort of like Mordred desiring the kingship from Arthur) and orchestrating the deaths of the Lyons and the ouster of their supporters by employing the Outcasts to liquidate them
it was a coup plain and simple

yeah it makes them more complex. They are often the good guys btw. Heroic for Anti-Hero reasons. Through pretty much all the games.

The BoS is basically like Israel. They only care about themselves but sometimes they have mutual enemies that are obviously bad like Super Mutants.

didnt play this but here is a chatbot telling me ur wrong:
Your chapter begins as an expedition sent east from California. After a disastrous airship crash, the survivors are forced to adapt to the Midwest.

Over time, they:

Protect settlements from raiders and mutants.
Recruit outsiders (which the original Brotherhood rarely did).
Accept ghouls, super mutants, and even intelligent deathclaws into their ranks if they're loyal.
Build an actual nation rather than remaining isolated in bunkers.
Fight major threats like raiders, slavers, beastlords, and robots.

Bethesda made the amazing Faction called:
The Institute and its opponent: The Railroad dude
what more do you want

Its a masterpiece of writing!

The railroad want to liberate some toasters and then explode the toaster production factory so they have nothing to do afterwards and the commonwealth can get dominated by my Nuka World Raiders.

>Minutemen = cooked
>BoS = foreigners that dont care about anything other than tech and to destroy the institute because they fear their superior capacity
>Institute = smart but some how retards that have too much trust on a foreigner just because its related to their director
>Railroad = extreme retards that think toasters are human because they can mimic realistic feelings o algo

Why should I as a Nuka World Raider not support the Railroad? They have no plan for the future they are fucking stupid and they want to destroy the competition lol.

I want an eternal supply of Commonwealth sex slaves. This is Including enslaving them when I'm done with their faction quests. Desdemona is too old to be a breeding sow but she is fuck meat for my raiders.

Fallout 4's greatest failure is not having each faction change the story. If you sided with the Brotherhood the Institute should have only been cyborgs, replacing humanity for evil. If you joined the Railroad, the Institute should have been only humans seeking to better the lives of the wastelanders. The story itself should have been different depending on your allegiance.

Bethesda were obsessed with the idea of making "morally grey" factions so they didn't stop to consider if they actually made sense.
>>
>>744233037
Bethesda really doesn't understand the concept of linear time and the scale of two centuries. There's banner in Concord, a flimsy plastic looking banner that has been hanging between buildings for 200 years. If you just pretend the bombs fell like five years ago the entire design aesthetic makes a lot more sense; it doesn't fuck absolutely fucking stupid shit like that lady in the diner that "lives" there and has shit like skeletons in the booths of her "store" and never once does anything about them but it's really clear that Bethesda has no interest in exploring actual post-apocalyptic concepts outside of rusted sheet metal and piles of trash.

Why was Shaun replacing humans with synths?

Why did he even create synths at all? If he wanted manual labor he could just make robots, or stick to the Gen 2 Synths

Why was the Institute creating Supermutants and releasing them to the surface?

If Shaun wanted you to find him why did he never bother sending anyone to help you, why do you need to rely on Dogmeat sniffing a weeks-old cigar to track Kellogg across the wastes, why did he never try to retrieve you for over 60 years

If the Institute kept you alive because “you’re the backup” why did they kill everyone else in the vault? Having more samples of non-irradiated DNA should still be useful

If synths don’t need to eat or sleep why does Curie mention being hungry and sleepy after being turned into a synth? Also wouldn’t that be an obvious giveaway that someone is a synth

If synths do need to eat and sleep why does the synth Roger Warwick not need to sleep? Why don’t synths gain weight? What even is a synth, is it supposed to be more like a robot or a human with a brain chip?

If Kellogg was kept alive for 60 years through cybernetics then why does no one else in the entire wasteland or in the Institute have these cybernetics? If Shaun cancelled the program, Kellogg looks near identical to when he captured baby Shaun so those cybernetics must have been available for decades

Why did Shaun deliberately create a child synth version of himself to fake you out with? Did he read the script and realize he needed to do this to introduce a dramatic reveal of the twist?

Is Codsworth sentient? He cracks jokes and has opinions like a sentient being. What about Curie, she was a robot transplanted into a synth body. So was she actually sentient all along? If the robots are all sentient does that mean that they’re basically glorified slaves in the Fallout universe and killing them is tantamount to murder?

>>
A synth is organic so they should need to eat. It shows them being created in the institute - it builds a skeleton, then injects muscle onto it and then pumps it full of fluids and dips it in the blood pool then it comes out fully formed with pants on and the ability to walk and speak from creation
>>
>>744236621
well of course
you can see from outside that it's not all being shored up or anything and there are all kinds of weak points and unused spaces; the interior (after the (in the space of time between the birth of the united states and the moon landing) still has seats covering immense amounts of unused space while they have bizarre, teratalogical metal shacks growing out of each other for some reason
power is apparently not a concern since they run all their stadium lights all night every single night (and not once have any of those bulbs burnt out in 200 years) and they have enough of a need to have a functioning detective agency and a "science lab" but not like a place manufacture or repair things

bethesda doesn't understand how societies and civilizations operate so it's even more embarrassing when you see them try to address issues people had with FO3 and still fuck it up
>>
>>744236759
The Synth thing is an ongoing project of the Boston University that it never got finished due to the Great War. Shaun just completed it.

Why did those guys at the university wanted this idk but its a bit realistic that it can be just for curiosity to see how far you can push AI.

>Why was the Institute creating Supermutants and releasing them to the surface?
idk maybe they never seen them before and thought they could be controlled or whatever. My head canon is that 80% of the mutants in Boston are from the Capital Wasteland Vault 88 squads + Washington DC

I installed a mod to have them there. And they are way harder because they also got perma invisible Nightkin fags

>>
>>744216914

I have at least 1 "cool" Fallout 4 criticism and it's basically:

The Minutemen and Gunners should have been the two 'obligate' factions to pick from with the same purpose, different methods/ideology, duality like they had already practiced in Skyrim. The Minutemen are the democratic, agrarian, colonist-style, faction trying to recreate the same "13 colony" style government Washington envisioned about America being a farmer-lead nation - or something like it. Gunners on the other hand could have been something resembling a strong, industrialist, authoritarian, military government. The Minutemen could have the advantage of being well-liked by their members, possess superior food production and numbers, but are otherwise horribly unorganized, zero discipline weak-piss-ant peasants. The Gunners could have the opposite advantage where they're more organized and excel at production but civilians dislike them because they have a corvee/tributary system.

From there the game should have been about colonizing and civilizing the commonwealth, capturing & rebuilding infrastructure, the different ways to go about it, and trying to cooperate or anihilate the other factions.
Instead of it just being an afterthought seemingly thrown in at the tail end of development. It should have been a core fucking mechanic - we should have been out here rebuilding STEEL MILLS and HOSPITALS and ROADS, establishing an ECONOMY, not fighting endlessly respawing Super Mutant camps.
>>
>>744237864
Yeah, that makes slightly more sense for the Enclave, they wouldn't like the Pack they are too primitive. But the Deciples are going to plot your murder some day. They are literally the least loyal, Nisha literally opens up her justification for why you should side with them by death threatening you. They worship death and if you enter their mountain it hints that they enjoy filming snuff videos.

I like when Fallouts have superior Energy Weapons than Ballistic Weapons.
Like Fallout 1, 2, 3 (The Metal Blaster is the best weapon in the entire game by far 8 lasers, all of them crit, same range as a normal laser rifle so it can snipe and it has low recoil).

The story is hackneyed ‘corporations bad’ drawn out over 30 hours +. Its old and recyled, the culture is rick and morty meets hitchhikers guide and whilst that sounds novel it doesn’t bring anything new to the table because the way its handled is absolutely ‘safe’ sterile and boring like the very corporations it claims to detest so much. ‘Quirky science guy locked in lab’ is the most interesting character, and even that got old fast. Nothing of significance happens after leaving the tutorial world, playing that game felt like enduring a long drawn out fart waiting for it to end, but never does.

This. Fallout 3 was a good first attempt and Bethesda could have learned from both 3 and NV to make a great Fallout RPG in the future. Instead, they've given us nothing but slop like Fallout 4 and 76 or have approved of slop like the TV show since.

>Why was Shaun replacing humans with synths?
A number of reasons
1. Taking control of settlements
2. Spying on areas of anti-Institute sentiment
3. Performing experiments on the surface.

>Why did he even create synths at all?
Shaun did not make the Gen 3's. Gen 3s were in development and being produced for DECADES before he took over. Also, the pre war robots, and Gen 2's, fucking suck at their jobs.

>Why was the Institute creating Supermutants and releasing them to the surface?
Super mutants are the result of the FEV experiments used to make new strains of FEV for synth production. Releasing them on the surface gives surfacers an enemy to fight that isn't the Institute.

>If Shaun wanted you to find him...
Shaun explains this in dialogue and on his computer. He didn't send anyone to pick you up.help you because he wanted to see if you cared enough about him to try to find him on your own, and what kind of person you were. Sending someone to directly help you would taint the observation. Also he only released you after he found out he was dying of cancer since it caused him to look back on his life and realize he regretted not knowing his parents.

>If the Institute kept you alive because “you’re the backup”...
No one else in the Vault was a usable backup since none of them were related to Shaun.

>If synths don’t need to eat or sleep...
Synths not NEEDING to eat and sleep doesn't mean synths are incapable of eating or sleeping, or being programmed to feel like they need to in order to maintain their cover on surface operations

>What even is a synth, is it supposed to be more like a robot or a human with a brain chip?
They are FEV grown organic robots with a brain chip that allows the Institute to update and reprogram them.

>If Kellogg was kept alive for 60 years through cybernetics...
Shaun canned the project. the cybernetics were still high experimental.
>>
>>744248372
>>744236759
>Why did Shaun deliberately create a child synth version of himself to fake you out with?
Because Shaun was an elderly man dying of cancer who regretted the fact that he never knew his parents, and that his parents never got the chance to experience his childhood. The synth Shaun was a misguided attempted by Shaun to give his surviving parent some semblance of the childhood you missed out on.

>Is Codsworth sentient?
200+ years of being on has made him close to it, we see this with several robots across the Fallout franchise.

Fallout 4 is poorly written but all of these questions read like you either never played the game, are just unable to understand what is told to you, or are just making up dumb questions to create an artificial "gotcha!" moment

>But you cant have it because.........BECAUSE YOU JUST CANT OKAY!!
Shaun didn't like the cyborg program becuase the guy running it was trying to turn people into quasi immortal monsters, and Shaun didn't agree that was the future of humanity. Fallout has regularly shown that attempts at immortality always lead to issues.
>>
>>744238698
>why couldn't he make a synth body and transplant his brain into it?
He could. Shaun outright admits there were ways they could've kept them alive, he just didn't agree with them. Same reason why he shut down the cyborg program.

Also, putting people into brain jars just leads to massive mental decay. House points this out himself in NV.
>>

>>

Shaun did not complete the synth program. The synth program was completed when Shaun was still an infant. the first Gen 3 synths appeared on the surface like two years after he was taken from Vault 111. He was still an infant when Gen 3's were made.

>Institute clearly has the resources to improve Boston's livelihood
>your only options are join your son and keep kidnapping people or nuke the most technologically advanced facility Boston has for 100+ miles
The reason why they don't use their tech to improve Boston is that they spent 4 years trying to work with the CPG to help form a government in the Commonwealth, the CPG collapsed(surfacers blame it on the Institute, records in the Institute indicate it was collapsing before they got involved , and they were trying to save it). After the surfacers blamed them for it, they basically went "fuck you then" and hid underground.

The whole point f the surface vs Institute conflict is that its self perpetuating because both sides can't move past their biases and preconceived notions. A pretty common theme in Fallout.

Shaun was only a pure human shortly after he came out of the Vault. the Institue says the reason why they had to kidnap Shaun is that the Institue itself is not 100% secure from all the radiation on the surface, which is why no one in the Institute could be used for the Gen 3 project. Shaun got cancer from the radiation. He was no longer a pure human at that point.
>>
>>744248751
Yeah, but Shaun himself did not "complete" the program. He didn't give the order to make Gen 3's, he didn't start production of Gen 3's. He didn't start the whole thing of Gen 3's replacing people.

The point of gen 3 synths is surveilance and sabotage. Ensure that no community can become too big for its britches and to make sure nobody actively pursues them via subterfuge.
It is a fucking stupid train of logic the faction pursued because of Bethesda incompetence, but there is a reason.
>creating super mutants
long before the events of the main quest, they stopped making super mutants. The entire super mutant factory is locked off after Virgil fucked everything up

>>
>>744249130
>Which contradicts their deploying synths to "take over" settlements. Why would you create monsters to kill people when there's already a tiny amount of humans left in the fucking city?
Synths are not developed to take over settlements in general. Also, the Super Mutants are too stupid to ever succeed in actually killing everyone. Even Fallout 4 points this out "too stupid to take over, too strong to just die off". They are the perfect enemy to keep surfacers too busy to rally against the Institute.

>When one side is needlessly kidnapping people, replacing them with synths and creating super mutants who kill and eat humans and the other are just...scared of them for doing so then it's a pretty fucking one sided conflict.
This ignores that the Institute spent the better part of the 20 years between the fall of the CPG, and the Broken Mask incident, not doing these things. Despite that, the people of the surface were scapegoating them so hard for everything that they were becoming more and more dangerous, possibly to the point that they could rally together and dig to the Institute. The Institute only started doing these things AFTER the people of the surface became a possible threat. Which feeds back to the issue. Both sides are too set in preconceived notions for the conflict to just blow over. Even if the Institute did nothing, the people of the surface are too used to scapegoating them for everything that the Institute couldn't just work with them.

The Institute is literally letting people die from super mutant attacks, raiders, deathclaws, ghouls, radiation poisoning, starvation, etc despite possessing the technology to solve everything and yet everyone else is equally at fault because a government was corrupt at some point? In a way that's never elaborated on?
>>

There is higher than normal background radiation, but not enough for like the typical radiation meter in-game. The people inside the Institute mention its not perfectly sealed off
>>
>>744250192
None of this is said in the game, nor would that affect Shaun's viability for FEV or cancer.
>>
>>744250157
Uhh no. They don't help because they tried to help during the CPG, it fell apart, the people of the surface blamed the Institute for it, then spent the next 20+ years scapegoating the Institute for everything that went wrong on the surface even back when the Institute wasn't actually pulling the strings of so many things. We're talking about decades of mutual mistrust between the two.
>>
>>744250241
>None of this is said in the game
Several NPCs mention that the Institute isn't perfectly sealed. That's why they had to kidnap Shaun in the first place. All of them have damaged DNA from the radiation.

>nor would that affect Shaun's viability for FEV or cancer.
Anon, you know radiation is one of the biggest causes of cancer? And if your DNA is damage from radiation to the point it causes cancer, you're no longer a pure human that FEV would work on.

Not him, but the thing is that the companions in Fallout 3 were added last minute according to an interview with Bethesda. It locked the user inside so they can be blasted with radiation with no means of escaping from inside if memory serves which is why Autumn stayed inside like a bitch surviving thanks to invisible super Rad X injection or some shit.
The purifier as a whole was designed with contrivances like why the radiation it is purifying from the water has to be concentrated then blasted inside to the operator to begin with.
>>

>The game was not designed with companions in mind, and they didn't have any time to go back and change the ending because of how actual last minute they got tossed in.
Here is a faster thing they could have done.
Add a script where a bullshit explosion because of Autumn's trap or whatever contrivance happens so you are isolated from your companions, similar to you getting kidnapped by the Enclave to Raven Rock.
You can even add an activation box to try to communicate with the opposite side of the rubble only to get hit with a message box saying [you hear nothing].
Rest of the quest continues as originally designed.
You do not have to pay extra $5 for the voice actors to say any new lines.
Even when the DLC happens, you do not have to add new lines to begin with.
You do not have to cry about how players did not get your genius, and how they wanted the game to last forever.

>>744252031
>Why did the institute need Shaun specifically, there were tons of vaults with people who weren't exposed to radiation
They didn't need Shaun specifically. Shaun was just the best candidate because he had two blood relatives(his parents) in the vault as well to serve as backups when the other didn't.
>Why didn't they order Kellogg to kill everyone in vault 111 to not leave any traces
Nate and Nora were kept alive as backups in case they needed more DNA should Shaun die.
>Why did the institute need to make gen 3 Synths , why bother blending when your planning on killing everyone anyway
The Institute never planned to kill everyone.
>Why even bother making synths when other robots in the Fallout world already exist, are semi sentient and will follow any command?
Because the Fallout franchise has shown that the pre-war robots were fucking retarded, horrible at following directions, unable to adapt to changing work conditions, and, due to their awful designs, had very limited range in terms of what they could do, and what tools they could use. As Shaun himself states, the point of the synth project was to create the ultimate machine by copying the race that rose to the apex already... humans.

What i don't understand is why Elder Scrolls had a more background independent story. Oblivion you're not even important, in Skyrim you're the Dragonborn. In Fallout, except for New Vegas, your background is pretty much already preset. You could be a blank slate vault dweller. Vault dweller is a least more general than being married and having a family, plus the war background. A cool Fallout would be one where you aren't a vault dweller at all. It would be a cool one off. They could also do something more like a true rpg and more in the vein of Morrowind, but just make the start like World of Warcraft. Where if you pick a background you spawn there or you could be a Vault Dweller or random person from the Wasteland. They could even find a way to incorporate a vault and randoms from the Wasteland to make it work for anything background.

The seckggs mods in FO3 suck the animations are terrible. Slavery mods are fun though because you can make Enclave Hellfire Troopers or the Antagonizer into a slave companion.

I've never seen the guns in Starfield too closely. The top 3 are really cool designs compared to most of the shitty nerf guns in scifi games. The bottom 3 have pretty uninspiring shapes though.

in NV they don't because they just copied IRL designs (except for energy weapons of course)

and at least they tried to add some more sensible models for energy weapons back into the game rather than bethesda's idiocy

FO1-2 style plasma rifle (reused in NV as plasma caster) looks like a bulky proof of concept weapon made to produce something experimental yet functional before ergonomic design was taken into account (never happened due to the bombs dropping)

FO3 looks like a god damn toy

They're not good if you consider the details at all. Even made-up guns should make some kind of sense. The top one for example is a shotgun. Whats all the giant blocks on the side? What possible purpose could they have on a shotgun? The hexagonal block at the back is the ammo drum which is going to get in the way of your grip. All of them have the same kind of issues if you look too closely. They all have unnecessary useless added frame parts, un-ergonomic design or are simply nonsensical in how they might work. Not that every sci-fi gun should be a laser AR or something but I think they would be better being designed with some respect to practicality or imagining what the parts are and how they might be put together in a way that makes sense. Consider that they would be made primarily as a serious and professional military weapon. I'm sure real guns are made to look cool or stylish as well as functional, to have a certain look to them and there would be a civilian market to appeal to. But these all look like they were designed by an Ai with no concept of how guns work. There's others worse than that too. As a comparison, Cyberpunk 2077 guns never felt like they had the same problem despite all being fictional. And kind of related, the design of the cars in that game look like they could be real concept cars. They look designed by professionals rather than game devs.

>Cyberpunk 2077 guns never felt like they had the same problem despite all being fictional.
Helps in that case that there was an established aesthetic for the series which already went heavy into stylized but plausible future guns
There's some guns that look like they'd shatter your wrist but even that's entirely explained in-universe by cybernetic being common enough people who'd use those guns have steel wrists

they could have had their cake and eat it too if they werent so horrendously incompetent
>setting has hostile radiation zones that are unexplored
>arms race of various factions to develop combat effective environmental suits that can filter the heavy radiation, stop bullets and deathclaw swipes, and whatever new threats they might encounter
>the solution thats the fastest is upscaling current power armor designs
>now you have a sort of pseudo space race for you to parallel your cold war red scare themes
nope, fucking underground railroad plotline instead. i dont think todd even knows what the underground railroad even is.
>>
>>744260140
it's really funny because the "elevated radiation zone" explanation would ALSO be a good one for the state of FO3's capitol wasteland
turn that place into a mini-glow that only recently (20-something years) became tolerable to humans again
FO3 genuinely can be reworked into a sort of "gold rush" style setting that explains virtually everything about the state you find the world in when you emerge
Ridiculous number of raiders? Cancer ridden prospectors who didn't strike it rich saying "fuck it I'm dying before I'm 40, I'm gonna do all the booze, drugs, sex and violence I can before I croak"
Endless slaves? New prospectors drawn in by tales of technological wealth arriving and immediately being snatched up by the aforementioned raiders
Nobody making any effort at long term sustainability? Prospector mentality, everyone still has idle dreams of striking it rich and getting the fuck out of there
Purifier being required? Soil is still dangerously irradiated, purifier would flush the soil making agriculture possible and in a meta-story way provide hope to the local people that they genuinely could be a community rather than trying to get out
BoS being there? They heard about a technological gold rush and hauled arse to get over there ASAP because holy fuck what the fuck

Hell the whole "overload the purifier" thing in this case could have had a genuinely interesting reason that is not fucktarded, it's the ghouls who ask you to overload the purifier, permanently irradiating the capitol so that it becomes a safe haven for their kind in an increasingly hostile and populated east coast

Except for the first one and the obligatory alien looking one they're actually good designs. It's rare to see multiple different design styles. Usually you get one weapon style for humans and then abstract nonsense for aliens.

Still, the first weapon looks like fucking abomination. Is that a bullpup revolver rifle?
>>
>>744248119
But in such a way that shows bethesda understood absolutely nothing about what made those features cool or great in NV
>>
>>744260475
hearing that they develop with no design doc explained alot of the sheer wasted potential out of these games. fallout 3 felt like you were walking through a novelty museum of remberberries. i dont have much hope of the new obsidian fallout either. pretty sure most of the former talent is retired, left, or straight up dead. its been 30 something years since interplay after all. we have obsidian's recent works to gauge with and man does it not bode well.
>>
>>744230073
It makes sense if you consider that it was probably made by indians who see toilets as otherworldly, mythical objects. In their head this is fallout's dragon bone armor.

>>744262049
I see nothing wrong with the designs
>>
>>744262108
There sso much wrong with each one, are you even looking
1. banana rifle
2. le square barrels (why)
3. wtf even is that (stock: retarded / grip: retarded / no trigger guard / foregrip: retarded
4. giga greebles ( its just a gun that fires bullets, what the fuck do all those bits do? Nothing thats what / wtf is going on with that foregrip / wtf is the magazine)
5. almost ok but not quite just looks kinda off / front heavy
6/7! double retard pistols (first one, look at cylinder.. how the fuck are bullets getting to the barrel? And even so its right at the front so there'd be like 1 inch of barrel / second one, seriously wtf is that I mean just look at it it has a square hole and if that is the barrel then what is all the shit on top of that and under it)
>>
>>744262523
I feel like you're just nitpicking random things
If someone asked me what was wrong with them I wouldn't be able to tell
>>
>>744262523
>le square barrels
the sci-fi double barreled shotgun fire caseless square bullets. No really.
the actual thing to bitch about is that despite them firing caseless ammunition the third person animation still depicts square casing flying out because they are so fucking lazy that they most likely copy pasted code and animation of the "normal" double barrel shotgun.
>>
>>744231072
>they oppress synths (abominations made to replace humans) so the Brotherhood is le evil
>>
>>744262638
Then you're a slop consumer, I guess the perfect audience. Its not nitpicking, its examining the designs. Even if you are just looking at the shape or something without looking at details, the top one is literally curved. A curved fucking rifle. The third one has no stock, the fourth is just a regular gun, what possible use are all the random bits on it? You can' t notice the complete mess of extra detail on it for no reason? Ugly as shit. At least one of them could not conceivably mechanically function at all
>>
>>744231072
This is so fucking retarded
Imagine having to share a fandom with someone that writes this
