You can convert at an altar. You'll come across one sooner or later, there's fixed ones in towns but they pop up randomly in dungeons and wilderness too.

Ehekatl's altar is relatively light, carry them home whenever you can, you can convert them into an altar of whatever god you're currently worshiping.

You are always making progress no matter what you're doing, if that makes you feel any better. The new(ish) slime race also allows you to get insane abilities. If you wanna ignore food you can also be a vampire or a succubus, or a slime who absorbs a succubus. They won't overtake perfect food in the long-run, but they'll certainly service you long enough to play for hundreds of hours until you figure out food. In fact, Vampires scale with the learning stat virtually indefinitely so you'll still be improving your food benefits for thousands of hours even without learning to cook.

Extremely early? Pick some flowers from the squares surrounding your base (they regenerate every couple of days) and toss them in. From there you can transition into booze made from what you farm or fish* or dungeon loot you don't need.

*You can saw fish into bonito flakes which can then be turned into booze. This is a very potent way of making money way into midgame.

You could also hit a town and do quests for money.

Equipment weight can be modified with flying scrolls, you just need to invest in magic shops (shitloads of money required).
Golem's bleed/dim immunity is great but they kinda suck because of their low base speed (can be solved with a mount, but that requires adding another skill to your grindfest list) and light eater feat (food is one of your main sources of stat gains).
Slime is a new race and I haven't played with it yet, but I assume having access to gene customization is great for minmax players.

Elin is a simulation game. It's about creating a character that lives in the world and controlling what they do. There's really nothing for it to open up for after the initial tutorial, quests are all optional. Pick a goal, break it down into smaller objectives and start working. Everything else like starting a farm to make better food that increases your gains for particular stats is just a shortcut in the long run.
There are no limits and you can do anything, but if you try to do everything you are either going to immediately burn out or commit the next 3000 hours of your free time to the game. Probably more if you care about making your home look nice.

how do weapons even work. I equip it to my hand spot on the right, but it never comes out when fighting unless I hit a hotkey with nothing on it then sometimes it comes, sometimes it doesn't. do I just need to set it to a hotkey? what is the hand equip slot for then?

The only time I played this I played for hours, barely walked around, garbage started piling up, the garbage caught fire somehow, I caught fire somehow, and I died. I play 4X games that should be more complicated than this

If it's a melee weapon, you just equip it in the slots and it'll automatically use in combat when you're not holding something else. If it's something like a gun or a staff, you have to put it on your hotbar and use it like a consumable.

It's been at least 6 months since I played and even though I've made four different characters I still feel like I wasn't understanding what to do in the mid/late game. Anything change the last couple of months that breaks the game? The last thing I remember was trying to get high lvl monster eggs and using milk to fuck around with stats but I never actually tried doing it.

Mifu is for the traditional kitsune, based around trickery and whatnot. Nefu are the anime fox girls with big boobies, fighting with talismans and katanas and stuff. In-game and the lore they have basically the same culture, so it's just vibe or gameplay difference.

It's easy to get your base income to be higher than taxes once you know a little about the game. You just need one valuable item, like a generator or ticketing a high value bed from one of the towns, the +value to your highest item policy, then the tax policies. Ehekatl worshippers give the most with Faith tax so try to get them (Eyth worshippers give a bit more actually but that's a pain)
