What would you have wanted from a third and final Jensen game?

There's not going to be one so there's nothing to hope for. That being said i find it strange that the Jensen games are risky to make when they streamlined most things from the original Deus Ex and Invisible War. Yes Human Revolution and Mankind Divided are more streamlined than the game that was accused of already streamlining the original game being Invisible War. So why is this so hard to make? it's ridiculous to the extend in which it did it too. It's not that far off the DNA of modern games like Cyberpunk 2077 in reality. It actually shares a lot less in common with the buzzword concept of immersive sim.

Whatever they had in mind I would hope it kept fanwank to a minimum. I love Mankind Divided and think a sequel could have been something really special since it would need to deliver a juicier plot, but even MD took some of the connections to the original game in clunky directions. It's a minor detail, but Manderley being in charge of TF29 doesn't make much sense, to name a simple example, or Samizdat being tied to Silhouette. I could see them doing something worse. Even HR tried to draw a connection between Jensen and the Dentons, which I'm not sure makes any sense at all.

They had two games and the story never went anywhere interesting. Another game wouldn't have fixed anything. They just introduced pseudo moral dilemmas while making you fight generic grunts.
>>
>>744246140
>What would you have wanted from a third and final Jensen game?
I want the game to lean more into Deus Ex 1 aesthetic now that the timeline is getting closer to 2052. Explain how all the sci-fi stuff in the prequels is disappearing because the world got worse infrastructure-wise and cutting-edge tech once enjoyed by the wider population is slowly being gatekept by the elites.
>>
>>744246527
AAA imsim game is expensive to make and there aren't a lot of people buying these games rn. At least that's the justification for why. Weird because HR sold like hotcakes back in the day.
>>
isn't the end of jensens story just the start of DX1? didn't JC know jensen?
>>
>>744246140
another shitty game that console tards pretend is deus ex
>>
>>744247943
Isn't that only the case when the game allows for those highly experimental gameplay models? it was far more restricted here in regards to the Jensen games. That would probably explain why it sold like hot cakes back then. Since it was less targeted at a niche but more design compromised and likely targeted at console audiences. I don't know why it wouldn't sell like hot cakes now is my point. It's not really that risk high but making something closer to OG/IW is more risk associated (IW was technically compromised at its respective time but less so than the others). You have to design the game around numerous of creative ways to bypass challenges in which can completely change traditional progression. If your level design isn't built from the ground up like that, which the newer games only half were. You're just spouting some buzzword here because it belongs to a particular design lineage but didn't actually really go into completely experimental territory.

They favor stealth somewhat more than the original game but the variety in obstacles and how you handle them is still wide. The original DE actually has simpler level layouts, for the most part. They also do far more with dialogue options as a means of progressing through the game, especially Mankind Divided.

They're simpler and more streamlined because of how the RPG system was gutted, but they still emphasize choice and exploration a lot.
>>
>>744247989
I don't think JC knew of Jensen. Jensen's timeline of events is too far off from OG Deus Ex by 20 years. By the time JC starts his job at UNATCO, Jensen would've been an old man then.

>There's not going to be one so there's nothing to hope for

I need to know what's the deal with the Jensen torso!
Are we playing a body double with Jensen's memory implants? Is that why we need constant therapy or we go schizo like Daria?
Is Janus an AI and will it turn into Morpheus or is that Eliza?
How will Jensen's body lead to nano augmentation?
Is MD Adam the Illuminati sleeper cell?

The game is so good having so many secrets to find, emails to read, and dots to connect. Connecting MD to the original game would be weird though. They already have manufactured viruses like Orchid bridging into Gray Death, but we haven't seen any weird dinos or aliens created in some biolabs yet, but there's still 20 years in between.
>>
>>744249118
>External partnership
The fuck? Embracer OWNS Eidos Montreal for God's sake.
>>
>>744249175
>Are we playing a body double
Probably not.
>How will Jensen's body lead to nano augmentation?
There was already an easy-to-miss email in HR about this, but the timeline doesn't make a lot of sense since Paul was already alive and kicking years before Human Revolution takes place.
>>
>>744248913
I think the reason that the Jensen games are not being made is purely down to production and presentation costs and less so what the Jensens games designs were. Eidos-Montréal released Thief 2014 which was a disaster and Mankind Divided was a half finished game so they had multiple production issues in execution. It could be that they were simply inefficient rather than whether a new game in the series was possible to produce.
>>
That being said i do believe Thief is actually the real series in neglect and is being artificially given the cold shoulder by the industry because stealth games are hard to market. Every time the industry neglects stealth and Thief it's all because of an unfair business model that it runs on.

>>
>>744249572

In terms of content it's at least as robust as Human Revolution was. It's not a short game at all. It's somewhat unsatisfying as a story which might make it feel shorter than it is, though.

embracer is leaking money like a sieve. they went from 15k employees to 6k in 2 years. "exploring partnerships" means selling the ip rights to the highest bidder and not worrying if the game is shit. eidos montreal also switched to ue slop and became a support studio for fable and grounded 2.
>>
>>744249895
No, it was half a game.
Fuck off with your corporate dick sucking.
>>
>>744249976
Probably because they shelved all the good games and released slop exclusively for 5 years.
>>
>>744249997
I think their priorities were skewed, but MD is longer than HR if you account for the side missions (which is some of the best content across both games).

Even the story ends in a fairly natural place. It's unsatisfying because there's not much to Marchenko and the game was made with a sequel in mind. That's not the same as being half-finished, though.
>>
>>744249721
I just want it to be finished so Thomas Porta can return to working on that Serpens game. Looks a little spiritually closer in my eyes. If that ends up being vaporware theres a few other candidates like project shadowglass, the citadel project or noirmancer i suppose.
>>
>>744249895
The side content was way more interesting than the main story.
There were 2 options before the endgame:
>1. Go after the bomber
Follow orders like a puppet
>2. break into the Palisades and find out corpo secrets
Find who's pulling the strings.
People were too focused on the terrorist plot, which is what the Illuminati wanted.
>>
>>744250163
Nta I think despite it being longer than MD the main story feels like it meanders for a while and then hurries up to a cliffhanger. I think there needed to be like one more act to not feel like it was unfinished
>>
>>744250268
I went after the bomber because I felt bad for Stanek
>>
>>744250314
Despite it being longer than HR* sorry
>>
>>744250163
THr story doesn't end in a good place and the side quests are all fucked, since most of them are supposed to finish much later in the half of the game that was canned.

The whole thing feels super rushed, since it's half a game.
Stop defending the billion dollar company idiot.
>>
>>744250357
>the side quests are all fucked
Not really? What exactly are you referring to?

You have fat faggot vibes.
>>
>>744250314
I understand what you mean but the terrorist plot is tied up which is why the game ends where it does. It's just not that interesting of a plot and the best material is in side missions and Adam's status as a double agent.

HR's plot arguably isn't that interesting either, but it has more momentum at the outset and isn't a prolonged cock tease.
>>
>>744249118
Guess I'm out of date. When i saw next Deus Ex game dead back in December of 2025 i concluded it was the final blow. But this half proves my point. I doubt it's actually because making one of the Jensen games is logistically impossible and unable to turn a profit. I very much doubted it was ever off the cards either without explicitly stating so. I still see nu Deus Ex as streamlined to a point of where it's still marketable.

>Thief 2014 which was a disaster
It's kind of funny how, for some reason, that game managed to have a sequel. Well, it's a sequel in the form of a VR game, but still - while Deus Ex didn't have any in comparison.
>>
>>744250954
Eidos Montreal didn't give up on it that's for sure. They've been pitching the idea multiple times, even after all the layoffs they had suffered.
>>
>>744249895
>It's somewhat unsatisfying as a story which might make it feel shorter than it is, though.
It's kinda like how Half-Life 2 with its Episodes. Valve didn't get to make Episode 3, so the wait was unbearable. Same thing happened here. Like HL, Mankind Divided left players in a state of constant blueball pretty much.
>>
>>744251457
I think Mankind Divided would be better received if it had a sequel to follow up on the Janus/Illuminati stuff. Even the way the most interesting story elements are relegated to the background and side missions would be appreciated as a thoughtful slow-burn, I think. It's a critical part of what makes the game feel so eerie.

But they were expanding too much too fast. The Jensen clone theory is quashed by Black Light, but who the fuck is reading a Deus Ex book? Wanting room for sequels is one thing, but Mankind Divided's loose ends just sting now. Nevermind the fact it wasn't even really necessary to bring Jensen back at all, but either way they could have wrapped things up with one sequel to HR had they elected to do so, and that hypothetical looks better now ten years later.
>>
>>744249659
Thief is a bit like classic Doom in that there is so much fan-made content a studio sequel seems redundant. If this hypothetical sequel updated the series' rather archaic gameplay, Thief fans would chuddha it. If it kept the gameplay intact but added an Unreal 5 coat of paint, Thief fans would chuddha it because they are married to the particular vibe and aesthetic of the originals.
>>
Judging by MD the thied game was supposed to be about Paris.
Also, my headcannon that Janus was actually Paige trying to fuck over other illums.

Man, No. Just No. I love Thief and that's exactly why I want it to rest in peace instead of getting remake/modernization treatment.
Even upcoming remaster makes me worried.

>chudda
Most of the people who post that shit don't even play games. They were crying over Asssains Creed for fucks sake. That series was always awful but apparently Shadows was one step too far in an already terrible from conception series.
I do want to see a Thief revival. I want to see a splinter cell revival and so on. A lot of people have luxuries of games to play but I've only got the Dark Mod, FMs and practically nothing else aside from maybe the newer Hitman games to play nowadays.

They made Jensen look like George Michael in this game. I would change that for the sequel.
>>
>>744253338
>modernization treatment
Yeah lets never advance stealth design beyond Thiefs original limits. The genre only had an abrupt halt ever since that and Ubisofts earlier days. My optimism might be wishful thinking but i do want to see how much more advanced we can get sound propagation and lighting detection systems to be. All of this was put on pause rather than actually explored because the market deemed it not frantically paced and engaging enough for the dopamine receptors to provide immediate release like cowadoody can provide and thus economically nonviable.
>>
>>744254305
