It'll be interesting to see if this continues now that RAM quintupled in price and no one can afford a PC anymore.

Like in 5 years is everyone still going to be on PC when games need 64gb of RAM and that alone costs $900? Or are we just going to have a decade of games limited to 16/32gb of RAM because developers are terrified that requiring more than that means no one buys your game?

>>744248421
Sony themselves are forecasting lower PS5 sales this FY (ends March 2027) despite the the GTA6 giant coming out in November. They are purposely kneecapping production to save money. The biggest Xbox shill just posted an article stating Microsoft is losing $150 per Xbox Series unit and that's accounting for the price hike next month. Next gen consoles are fucked price wise and that means they'll have a very small userbase comparatively. Devs who aren't retarded are still going to cater to current gen PS5/X|S consoles and their specs for another decade which means 16/32GB on PC will still be good for years.

>They still can't bother to optimize their games for PC

You wanna know why? Because
>60% of sales come from Steam

It's that high despite their poopy optimization. Luckily, DD2 and Wilds sucked so much shit (and I'm just talking about performance) that they got a little spooked and hopefully stopped sucking on their own balls. Plus Wilds being bad and running poorly probably pissed off the PC chinks, which are a good chunk of all their sales. Well technically their RE and MH sales, which are the majority of their sales anyway.
>>
>>744248421
Game developers are already pivoting their in-development projects to use less RAM, games that were pushing the boundaries , so yeah 16~32gb is the limit until the 2030s at the earliest. So don't expect any major game release to demand more than that this decade.
>>
>>744248767
Except for MH, Capcom makes good ports.

PS6 will hardly have more than 24GB of RAM (shared with VRAM), unless they want PS6 to be $2000.
5 years from now on, we'll still have games developed for PS5 and Switch 2.

Call of Duty dropped PS4 only this year, 13 years after the console launch.

I'm not surprised. Remember, that 39.6% console share is split across three platforms. Roughly speaking, that's about Nintendo at ~18%, PlayStation at ~12%, and Xbox at ~9.6%. PC alone still came out on top.

They're making so much money because of Resident Evil and Monster Hunter. Those two titles are what allows them to fund a major third title and then smaller projects on the side. They've been operating like this for years. I don't know why you people still don't manage to understand that part.
>>
>>744254147
The low average PC is a 3060. A PS5 is only like a 2060 tier system, the Switch 2 is a glorified 1050ti, and who cares about Xbox, it's somewhere in the middle.

>employing AI not because it helps you produce something better or more efficiently but because when evidence of its use is seen it annoys someone

>>744254246
The entire concept of consoles is on borrowed time for a whole slew of reasons and they've been dying slowly ever since the height of the PS2 and Wii/DS eras. The only reason they make more money now despite selling far less is because they charge more and found new ways to take advantage of their remaining users.
>>
>>744248421
It's kind of a moot point since almost every electronic computing device on the planet uses RAM, including consoles.
And no, Sony and MS will not get some super secret amazing contract that allows them to get memory at a 40% discount, they're going to pay the same overpriced amount as everyone else because none of the memory manufacturers are going to take that revenue hit when they could just be selling to AIshit companies.
>>
>>744248767
The only Capcom games that run poorly are MH Wilds and Dragon's Dogma 2, and they also run like shit on consoles.
They need to stop trying to use RE Engine for open world games, it's clearly not built for them.
>>
It seems since the release of RE6 (which was a disaster) whoever is calling the shots at capcom HQ really has read the tea leaves and saw which way things need to go and is pivoting the company in that direction.

>smaller games more often
>related to above they are reducing risk as they aren't staking the company on mega titles selling mega numbers
>this is why we got pragmata
>embracing - albeit sometimes in a broken way - modern technologies (HDR for example)
>leaning heavily into the growing PC space
>most of the games they make are performant at good image quality

They also tend to remove denuvo from their games after a period so while I think some of the asking price for their games is a bit much they are making games that don't exist as a fuck you letter to fans. A lot of other big players in the industry are years behind capcom in their business model.
>>
>>744248421
What is it with consoleniggers comparing the prices of their shitboxes to hardware with 3x the performance?
>>
>>744257830
That's retarded since the cloud still needs tons of compute to serve those users and it only benefits those cloud providers like Amazon. And people might hate Nvidia now, but Nvidia would hate this too. Nvidia wants to sell to data centers, the cloud, and retail, not cut out one entirely. Tons of the populace wouldn't go for it either for a whole bunch of reasons related to cost, reliability, confidentiality and trust. It's just Bezos's worthless wet dream.

>>
>>744246420
PC = Players of Cunny
>>
>>744248421
If you're implying this trend will somehow reverse to consoles, it will not. These component prices hit PC first, but they will hit consoles so much worse once stockpiles are gone and new contracts have to be signed. The margins for consoles are garbage, they're total wasted compute and locked down to something entirely superfluous in the grand scheme of things. If nobody can afford to buy a PC anymore, consoles would have died long before that point, not benefited.
>>
>>744248080
PC has always been the leading platform for games, and the only one that actually counts. Consoles are literally for faggots and children.
>>
>>744259694
>hardware with 3x the performance
like the steam machine
>>
>>744258291
>They've been operating like this for years
They do this at the expense of everything else. There was a point where we had a Megaman game every year or 2 before it became a Disney Vault IP where all it's good for was remastered collections. You can't expect people not to get pissed off at how they're handling their legacy IPs.
>>
>>744248767
That's just Wilds and DD2, which run like shit on everything.
>>
>>744260102
>Nvidia wants to sell to data centers, the cloud, and retail, not cut out one entirely.
That's not what the current sales trends they have show. They've shown pretty clearly in the last 10 years or so that they'll give up on the retail sales no problem because the profit margins and market size of data centers and cloud servers are just that more massive.
>>
>>744246420
Low numbers considering the games are much cheaper on PC.
>>
>>744248767
Their engine is only trash for open world games, everything else runs marvelously.
They just have to fix their engine to handle the open-world design.

I'm inclined to agree that they're a far cry from their days of RE6 and the likes of SFxT fiascos but I'm still a bit wary of their current direction. Just talking about RE here.
>Progenitor of remake craze. GOG interview when they released the pc ports of the original RE1-3 games also show that amongst higher up there's a Jim Ryan mindset of "players have the new version, why should they play the old thing?"
>Related to this you still are unable to purchase and play online with games like Lost Planet 2 or ORC, despite Capcom removing the GFWL from RE5 years ago.
>Remake 4 despite it being on re-released and accessible on every console and obviously hugely influential. Now 4make's success has done what the original 4 did to the series and has them trying to balance the horror with action shootan, with RE9 literally just being half-and-half of both.
Not even mentioning stuff like DD2 or Wilds running like ass.
>>
>>744260587
That's because they have to prioritize right now. They don't want to kill the retail market, they're just massively supply constrained and selling to data centers is by far the most bang for their buck. If they wanted to kill off the retail sector they just would stop producing for it entirely, it's not like it's mandatory for them anymore.

One thing about Capcom that no one talks about is that they actually fucking listen to feedback and make surveys all the time.
DD2 getting sn expansion + more performance updates is a direct result of that, same with the new Onimusha and the director addressing difficulty issues.

>>
>>744261227
dunno why you think that is a bad thing.
thats literally why japs love to release their games to PC now, iirc they cite that games still selling throughout the years on PC as a big thing for them, unlike on console where the initial sales are big but eventually the sales trickle to almost nothing after years. Console users just stop buying older games while on PC they keep selling, thus always making money.
>>
>>744260547
Mega Man was vaulted because people stopped buying them. ZX Advent had some pathetic low target sales numbers and it couldn't even hit that. It wasn't like the new games were shit either. ZX, ZX Advent, Starforce 3, Maverick Hunter X, Powered Up were all great, but the audience didn't care. They weren't able to fund the production of future titles in their own lineup. RE sales were probably the only reason Capcom kept shitting out Mega Man games.
>>
>>744246420

That's been their business strategy since RE6 flopped. One of their key methods for long term support is consistent sales for legacy titles. They alway point this out in their investor reports. I still remember when everyone, including here, mocked them for their 10 million sales target for RE7.

Digital allows them to push older titles back up on their sales reports with minimal publishing or development cost. It's essentially cheap money for them without ever having to develop a new title.
