It's not. It's just a action game with lovecraftian monsters but nothing faithful at all. Games like Scratches, Darkness Within, etc. are faithful. Heck, even the movie Bone Tomahawk is more faithful.

The directors cut was basically the remake. Think they've lost the rights since.

I tried to play this back when it was new but it was so boring at the start that I gave up. I spent like 30 minutes looking for a fuse in an empty house and said fuck this, I could do my taxes instead.
