According to Jez Corden
>“Microsoft has some plans with regards to how they show up on PC shall I say and I don't know what that pertains to with regards to steam.
>But the plans that I know about, and I've got to be careful here, plans suggest, it gives them a window to potentially pull out of Steam.
>So I would not be shocked if eventually we do see a universe where Microsoft, quits steam. But, I mean, we'll have to wait and see. I think it could go either way right now. I'm trying, I'm doing my research.”

Xbox games released on Steam this year in order
>Towerborne peaked at 1,346 players
>Kiln peaked at 193 players
>Forza Horizon 6 peaked at 302,645 players
>Age of Empires Mobile: PC Edition peaked at 878 players
>Halo: Campaign Evolved peaked at 25,376 players

It's insane how bad Microsoft's launcher is too.
I used the Xbox app for a while when Gamepass was dirt cheap through the gold conversion in the early days, and the experience was so bad and bugy that when the subscription ended I had no motivation to renew.

Also because of it, Windows keeps occasionally making an XboxGames and .GamingRoot files on the root directory of any drive I used the app with. I still haven't figured out how to make Windows stop doing that.

In theory but thing is; people can go for Steam even without Xbox so that idea of integration or releasing their, once flaship IPs in theremakes no sense. If their brand can't recover its reputation before adding Steam equation they'll only will end up with humilliation rituals at every turn.

No, but really, what games?
Jokes aside the gambit here is likely making ES6 or Fallout 5/whatever the fuck they call it console exclusive for at least a window if not indefinitely because they think they can copy GTA and move console units. I think this is bigger than just the launcher. I also do not give a single shit because their IPs suck ass as games to play.

They wouldn’t dare risk make either of those two games console exclusive, but it would be absolutely hilarious if they tried. Unironically that would probably kill the games. TES6 on Battlenet would still sell. TES6 in general would still sell, really. People bitch and moan about third party launchers on PC but they still put up with Rockstar's to play GTA. And random third party gacha launchers. And the Riot launcher.

I sadly think we're going to see the walls crashing down again because I can see publishers being paid to keep their games off Steam and put on the Windows Store or Bnet(like what happened with GFWL).

This is the right call if they want to have PC/Xbox as the same ecosystem where all the games carry over. Steam on Xbox would be a disaster too for Microsoft's profits so it makes sense for them to do this.

"Pulling games from Steam" means they pull them from sale. They can't do anything about the games already in your library.

The damning nail in the coffin lid of capitalism is that sociopathy and narcissistic behavior is rewarded. By social creature quirks sociopaths and narcissists love other sociopaths and narcissists (omg he's just like me!). It's a secondary feature built on top of the usual expected nepotism and in group bias. Past a point in a large management structures retarded delusional narcissists are the rule not the exception. It's not even about the performance of their traits, it's the human social element of their "tribe" (not dogwhistle tribe, simply as stated) extending them favors. Humans like people that are exactly like themselves. It's the mechanism behind social cohesion which formed tribes for survival purposes. Nature pulled the levers to incentivize grouping likeminded individusls. Applied to capitalism it's a system designed around empowering individuals that have a shared interest in having no concern for or plan in place for long term sustainability and profitability.

The only reason the show went on so long was the absolutely absurd technological advancements made in the 20th century. The common man attrubuted the knockoff effects of these genius breakthroughs made by a meager handful of individuals to the currently prevailing ruling paradigm. We're witnessing the rate of technological progress getting eclipsed by the decay of the economic paradigm. It's not even that technological progress is necessarily slowing it is simply that its output is not great enough to outstrip the rate of decay produced by the economic paradigm. The rate of resource misallocation outstrips the ability of technological advancement to supply increased/improved resources.

>>744435606
It is used whenever Valve catches certain keys that have been sold through gray market sites - that is, Valve themselves revoke the game from your library.
An outside publisher is never going to go out of their way to have games from peoples' Steam library because that would earn the company nothing but pointlessly bad PR. If any company was actually going to attempt something like that it would have been Epic when they were still at the height of their "We're going to overtake Steam!" phase.

Call of Duty at least can't legally be pulled. They were permitted to acquire the company under the condition that CoD remains on playstation until 2033.
If Microslop pulled it anyway, Sony's entitled to 10+ digits in damages from how valuable the franchise is, and MS would open themselves up to forced restructuring, since they lied to regulators, and this is not even close to the first time they've been grilled for anti-trust shit.

UK and EU both have this funny problem in their heads, in that they think US companies need them. They don't. That's especially true of a private corp.
if they were really pushed to it, Valve has the option of giving either or both the finger, and bailing out. Doing which they would have to make an explaination to their users why their steam accounts are no longer going to be accessible to them.
EU has 30+ million active users on steam. 30+ million people who are going to be directed against the EU bureaucrats in anger, all at once.

I don't think so, this isn't a ubisoft/ea/make your own launcher thing and leave steam

This is a Xbox and Playstation are tired of Steam not letting them have their cake and eating it too

In Sony's case you can sort of justify it

In Xbox's case it's just utterly retarded becase nobody is moving to the Xbox App for PC and/or Gamepass

And when Xbox said they wanted exclusives back in the fray, it made no sense for said exclusives to also be on Steam/PC and not just their Xbox app, but at the same time NONE of their exclusives are worth a damn, as much as you hate it you can't say the same for Sony exclusives

Game publishers who are just making games reap the benefits of Steam and aren't ever going to leave or make their own platform to fight Steam

Square Enix esepcially saw how much of a momentum killer the Epic exclusive killed their franchises and won't ever do that again

Game Dev culture has stagnated.

Games, even AAA, used to be made with smaller teams and smaller budgets and they were made quicker. This meant that success was more "easily" achieved. If your game cost $50 million and 3 years to make, then making $100 million is a great profit. The gaming scene was full of these sorts of projects especially around the 360/PS3 era. Games that took longer were VERY rare.

In 2026, AAA games overwhelmingly take 5+ years, cost hundreds of millions of dollars and are from studios bloated with too many workers. The games are still mostly the same quality as before, usually a bit prettier, but now making $100 million on your game is not only a loss, it's a significant and studio ending loss because it cost atleast 3 times that amount to make it,.

The main reason for this are games like Fortnite, GTAV and Genshin showing how a large budget and support can reap rewards hundreds of times over. Give a game a lot of funding and it could return billions. Why double your money when you could get 100s of times more? Yes this line of thinking is really fucking dumb and is missing a lot of key points but suits and CEOs just see the numbers and don't care.

The other reason is that COVID profits gave huge confidence to those CEOs and suits that gaming would just be that profitable. In their mind it doesn't matter if they waste billions in bloated projects if one project turns around and becomes "their" GTA, or their Fortnite or their Genshin because the money would be worth it.

They give studios too much money and no oversight, and when they fail to deliver on their absurdly high expectations they get shuttered, all so they can get their big cash cow.
>>
PC cucks need to suffer.
>>
>>744431557
Because CEOs have exactly two purposes
>line the shareholder's pockets (this was phil)
>be the fall guy when the company is on the brink of collapse (this is asha)
They're not looking to save microsoft's gaming division, they just want to squeeze the last few pennies out of it and have someone at the helm they can blame it on when there's nothing left
>>
>>744442691

>>

They won't advertise it, that's it. You can already put Steam OS in a newer AMD machine much stronger than the steam machine, the .iso 3.8 is already out for release. Don't expect Nvidia any time soon though.

They're not targeting the average user though, and by average I mean normalfags. They wouldn't know the first thing about how to put a live os on a usb even with AI walking them through it.
>>
>>744443346
You dont understand the difference between consoles and PC
With consoles, exclusively is good because it encourages people to buy their console OVER another
On PC, no one has to buy a new app. Steam and the xbox storefront are free. Therefore the only thing preventing people from downloading your app is whether or not it's shit and annoying. PC gamers are not the same as console gamers. Simple as.
>>
>>744444638
>console exclusivity requires you to buy into overpriced overdesigned piece of shit walled garden
>storefront exclusivity requires you to download another launcher for free
So why console exclusivity is a good thing again?
>>
>>744443773
>1. Dev bloat. Studios saw a huge spike in gaming during the scamdemic because people stayed in and played vidya. They thought this would last forever because theyre fucking stupid so they doubled all of their workforces at the behest of the higher ups in preparation for the FUTURE OF GAMING!
>2. when the scamdemic tourists inevitability left, you end up with the same market as before but now studios need to sell more games and mtx to break even on costs. This will not happen if they make shit games
>3. They make shit games because there are too many cooks in the kitchen. Having more people in your studio means you have more people you have to tardwrangle, a less cohesive vision, and basically just a ton of BLOAT. all of this is compounded by the lesdership being terrible and unable to efficiently lead such a large amount of people
>4. When they see how badly a project is going, their first instinct is to toss more people on it to "help" (terrible idea). This is how you end up with absolute dogshit like skill and bones, which was a project touched by LITERALLY every single ubisoft dev. All 10000 of them across the world worked on this game. First quadruple AAAA game btw
>5. Eventually, there is nothing left to do but close studios and/or cut 80% of teams. Maybe 50% of those devs are actually important and the rest are retarded idiots that were hired for non development related reasons, but those actual creators are still going to get shafted because they can't make good games when theyre handcuffed to faggots and troons and retarded idiots
If they just made good games they could avoid this, but the problem is that they literally cant make good games because of how they've set up these studios. It's just not going to work
>>
>>744432273
It's obviously this. Halo remake numbers were the last straw
>>
>>744444748
Because you should want to encourage a consumer who will only buy one console to buy yours instead of the others. It's not just about GAME SALES It's about CONSOLE SALES you fucking idiot
You're not selling your APP on pc. Youre only selling your GAME. Therefore you are hamstringing your own SALES by locking it behind your shitty app nobody wants to install. How are you this dumb? This is basic logic.

At this point this isn't even a stupid hypothesis, its actively ignoring pattern recognition. Just about everyone who fucked off from Steam has come back hat in hand because nobody comes with them to use their dogshit. Even fucking UBISOFT learned this lesson years ago
>Timmy tells them to make a deal and not release on Steam anymore. He'll give them big money to only release on EGS and they can even still keep their own uplay connect shit.
>Ubi gives it a try, realizes even with Tim throwing money at them, they make negative sales and its not worth it
>When contract is over, show up on Steam again and bring titles back, which sell far more than ever on EGS
This has never, ever been a good idea. It has literally always failed. Xbox is just doing this because
>HURRDURR CONSOLE WAR LETS DO WHAT SONY DOES LIKE THE OLD DAYS! LET ME FOLLOW THEM RIGHT OFF THE GODDAMN BRIDGE!
>>
>>744445907
>what does it matter
They'll keep more of the revenue, and Xbox is hemorrhaging money, so they need as much as they can get. Under Asha, Xbox consoles receive substantial updates twice a month now, so I trust that she'll devote resources to improving the Xbox app to better compete with Steam. The only way is up, after all.

>>

>>
>>744446205
Their games still sell in the tens of thousands, retard. Hundreds of thousands, in Horizon 6's case. An additional 30% of that revenue would be a huge boost for a loss leader like Xbox.
>>
>>744446238
That's a wise move only if you're making shit people want
Microsoft could stop making consoles, dismantle their storefront and never update windows again and the world would be better for it
>>
>>744436494
That's human nature. The USSR leadership was a boys club read a book. Being a commie won't solve that.
>>
>>744431494
Not a chance this works out. People are stuck on Steam for purely ideological reasons.
Like you could buy Halo Campaign Evolved on Xbox PC but nobody does. Instead they'd rather buy it on Steam and link their Microsoft Account to it.
The only things Steam does there is acting as a download manager and a social media platform for your achievements and Now Playing status. You're still having to deal with a Microsoft Account and the added hurdle of linking that shit to Steam.
>>
>>744446393
The microsoft store is incredibly broken. It's worth buying on Steam simply for the guarantee that the game can be installed, played, and deleted without issues.

A lot of games are still exclusive to the Windows Store and were never made available on Steam. Stuff like Crackdown 3, Forza Horizon 3, Phantom Dust remaster, Gears of War 4, Halo 5 Forge, and Halo Wars 2.

Now the original Xbox games for backwards compatibility on PC are exclusive to the Windows Store (Blinx, Crimson Skies, Fusion Frenzy, Conker Live & Reloaded) so it wouldn't surprise me if more Xbox and Xbox 360 backwards compatible games are going to be exclusive to the Windows Store.
>>
>>744446730
Literally anyone with a brain could have told Phil that an Xbox (sorry XBOX) exclusive is not an exclusive if you give it to a rival store that takes the same 30% cut that Sony would take
Everything Asha has done is so basic and obvious that her whole plan could've come from a single chatgpt (no not copilot) prompt

>What is it about being a CEO that demands you be the most out of touch retarded person in the company?
The qualifiying factor for a CEO has nothing to do with knowledge, experience, or leadership. CEOs are chosen on how well they can develop into a genuine sociopath. All of them have the intellect of bratty, entitled children. Their craft is being given power over others and not being afraid to abuse it. They are able to easily fuck over thousands of employees without a second thought if that is what must happen to make the line go up. When it goes tits up due to unreasonable investor demands, the CEO gaslights everyone into thinking everything is fine until they have resigned and moved onto the next corpo. CEOs exist to make employees afraid and miserable, and investors happy, there is nothing else they do.

If you call that a success then I'd have to ask if PC vegans or Steamies play games at all or have anything to do? Because that sounds like Forza on PS5; its success was because the platform was fucking barren of games

BTW; Halo 1 remake of the remake isn't even the most played through gamespass (which is accessible via PC) so no; exclusive or not, they're losing all those millions anyway and being exclusive made things worse

The first sign of civilization is a healed femur, pro-social behavior and cooperation are the backbone of society, not being a fucking retard psychopath with no empathy. You're making the same mistake as researchers who looked at how wolves behaved in captivity and came to conclusions about their natural social structures.

Human nature is naturally self-interested, and interested in the small subsection of humanity you can personally care about. Universal empathy simply isn’t a thing, you want to get yours and you want the ~150 people you have the cognitive capacity to know and like to get theirs. The rest of the world can die as long as it doesn’t effect your anchor, and you’ll still be happy.

I feel like this should bother me, but it doesn't. I mean Xbox has that Crossplay or whatever the fuck it's called where you buy a game from the Microsoft Store and it works on both Xbox and PC. So, if you have an Xbox, you'd be retarded to buy a PC game on Steam that is also available on Xbox since you can get both the PC and Xbox version for the price of one game.

But, if you don't have an Xbox, I guess it matters? I have an Xbox, so, it's whatever to me.

If a game wants me to make yet another account just to play it, it's not getting bought. Not making an R* acc, EA acc, ubi acc etc, I'm not making one. I'm done with companies demanding you make accounts they don't actually need that will just end up in breaches.

So if it's not on steam it's not getting bought, and if it's on steam but demands an account/launcher on top of that just to play it, it's still not getting bought.

Fucking apis just that, if steam doesn't bend the knee they have to remove windows support from steam quite simple and we know steam bended the knee when they removed support for old systems on either launcher and console (got a warning "you need to update to windows 10 22H" or sonething built when i tried to grab a mod for gmod).
And is quite known even small devs went with microslop shit.

Steam players have autism and a fierce loyalty to valve. Nothing short of a massive game like TES 6 or a new Fallout would motivate people to use a different launcher. Like 97% of PC gamers don’t really care that much about Halo or Gears and if it isn’t available to them on steam they’ll shrug their shoulders and move on

>>744480195
No competitor wants that, but reality is different than ideals. Selling 30k copies without Steam is not worth it when you can sell 300k with Steam. There's a reason why Activision, Ubisoft, EA, and whoever the fuck had third-party launchers all folded within the past decade.

>Human nature isn't naturally evil, you've been psyopped into thinking that because it gives us an excuse for capitalism
The drive to push your way to the top of any hierarchy is often fueled by a self-serving lust for power. You can see that across any number of political or economic institutions.

You do know that developers and publishers get more out of steam than physical right?
Significantly more, actually, 70-80% of revenue vs 50% and 20-30% of physical is resold, generating no revenue.
2 physical sales are worth 1 digital
From there steam gives you by far the most out of your digital games compared to limited shitware offered by consoles and Steam's competitors

MS killed GFWL just to make something that is worse where its only value is to play gamepass shit.
So in their dumbfuck hypothetical where they pull from steam
1. Gunballs that play on console will continue to ignore it because the change will never affect them
2. The small number of morons that used to give them $70 for their AA(A) trash via steam will now ignore the games outright at worst, wait for it to get added to gamepass down the line at best.
There is no long term investment here as seen with EGS failing to create customers out of its users.
