His entire shtick and background post RE1 was retarded. Wesker should have fled the mansion and become a recurring villain while staying a regular dirty cop on Umbrella's payroll.
RE9 basically coming as the mega fan service send off for the original series, despite it's widely differing and tumultuous developments throughout. This is the most direct Capcom have ever been about going a new direction and attempting to put a lid on what was done before. RE4 and 7 attempted this before, and whilst neat, they still in the end relied on old characters and narratives shoehorned in.Subsequently RE5 and 8 both relied on reviving past elements and creating oddly mixed stories and gameplay experiences leaning more heavily into action set pieces or rampant gameplay, usually becoming more and more parodies of the supposed horror they were supposed to be based on.Then you've got RE6 and 9, being attempts at wrapping up everything, creating building blocks for the future of the series to use and creating heavily mixed experiences trying to capture everything everyone loved about the different games before and arguably satisfying no one by having massively truncated experiences.If Capcom actually wants to do different in the future, they need to stick with a new formula instead of leaning on old habits hard again. The next game is likely to be a massive people pleaser by creating new stories, new threats and relying on the new context to create a fantastic entry point. Then they'll probably go back to the old cast and lean heavily on past fan service again and again in an infinite loop.
