just bought one of those bad boys(girls)
what am I in for
>>
>>744522963
Had mine for a few years and barely played anything on it
>>
>>744522963
PSP emulation, mostly. There's fuck all to play on Vita itself
And get yourself one of those SDvita adapters, the internal storage is barely enough for a single Vita game
>>
>>744522963
You are in for a huge drama queen dev moment
>>
>>744523354
oh
qrd?
>>
morrowind
>>
>>744522963
I thought about buying one but most of the stuff worth playing on it that i know of has already been ported to other platforms or PC so I can play/emulate it on the deck.
>>
>>744522963
Put CFW on that bitch and go play Cod zombies faggot.
>>
>>744522963
spicy pillow
>>
I played mine more when they gave a fuck (2013 to 2017 era). Most of the games worth playing have been re-released by now. It's a good emulator device if you care about that.
>>
>>744522963
amagami machine
jk visual novel and jrpg machine
>>
>>744522963
this >>744524207 is true, however playing vidya on a portable console will always be better
>>
>>744522963
Kino games, emulation, and comfiness.
>>
>>744522963
Gravity Rush
Soul Sacrifice Delta
Tearaway Unfolded
Vanillawares games (Muramasa, Dragons Crown, Odin's Sphere)
My favorite place to replay Jet Set Radio
Decent amount of custom firmware like a port of perfect dark and ship or harkinian and the animal crossing port etc
Emulation
Indies
And if you don't have any other oled screens it's genuinely the best place to play a lot of that stuff
>>
>>744526352
I'll get one for Christmas :)
>>
>>744522963
honestly a lot of the games that came out on vita were just gimped version of home console games. Not many devs bothered to make actually good games for vita specifically. It just got overlooked, as a platform
>>
>>744522963
>>744526543
like once upon a time you might want to get a vita to play say Persona 4 Golden, but these days the Steam version of that game is a lot better, since it has e.g. dual audio options, and a bunch of other advantages over the original

It's a similar story with lots of games that came out on vita. There's not a lot that's stuck on there anymore
>>
Disappointment
>homebrew scene is weak because of the nicheness of the system
>a lot of homebrew ports don't work very well, sometimes for no reason at all like Super Mario War
>the system itself is weaker than advertised and can't really handle even its own natively ported PS2 game anthologies, sometimes
>the Vita's library is barren if you don't like Underage Panty Quest dungeon-crawler games
>SDVita is pretty much a requirement, the Vita's storage solutions are awful
>the back touchscreen is completely fucking useless
>Vita 1000 has hall effect sticks and an OLED screen, the hall mechanism is junk and the OLED screen is early days for the tech so it's still susceptible to stick drift and burn-in
>need a grip case if you want L2/R2 buttons and L3/R3 stick pushes for PS1 games or for playing PS4 games over a local connection
Mine ended up completely deprecated as an OLED PSP and it's still kinda worse than just playing PSP games over PPSSPP. Get a Retroid Pocket 6 or something instead, a Vita offers nothing that a chinky emulation handheld in the higher end doesn't also offer. Not even the nice d-pad is unique to the Vita anymore.
>>
i'm glad the Vita is being boosted here atm, it's the coziest handheld
>>
>>744529362
>i'm glad the Vita is being boosted here atm, it's the comfiest handheld
FTFY
>>
Even though it was shit it was kino. I miss playing it around 2015.
>>
The first 7 kiseki games.
>>
>>744522963
The mid-late 2010s was probably the best time frame to really be into playing it. It's still a fine enough handheld, but all that's really left exclusive to the device is a bunch of okayish licensed games based on 2010s anime IPs you probably forgot about/never heard of. On a homebrew/emulation front, it's basically like using a 2011 android phone, and anything more complex than a Dreamcast is a no-go.
>>
>>744522963
money wasted. Just buy a Retroid pocket.
>>
>>744529772
yeah the vita evolution versions of the trails games are more fully voiced than even the recent remakes
>>
You can play Phantasy Star Portal 2 Infinity with the English patch on that.
>>
>>744522963
A great JRPG/panty quest machine. An alright emulator device otherwise.
>>
>>744526790
>>Vita 1000 has hall effect sticks
I didn't even know that, explains why mine never got stick drift over 10 years.
No wonder Sony tried so hard to jew you on the memory cards, they must have sold the console at a significiant loss on launch.
>>
>>744530689
Vita's an odd "Lamborghini jalopee", the parts are all high quality on their face but the system is still prone to breakdowns like the GPU melting itself or the aforementioned hall mechanism still being drift susceptible
>>
>>744526790
>Vita 1000 has hall effect sticks and an OLED screen, the hall mechanism is junk and the OLED screen is early days for the tech so it's still susceptible to stick drift and burn-in
As opposed to Vita 2k that instead had regular potentiometers and is the biggest reporter of stick drift issues?
Did you genuinely even held the console even once in your hands? How is it possible to spout so much bullshit, especially with OLED screen, and not mention the most infamous one with the black splotches?
>>
>>744522963
The Vita scene just imploded because one of the biggest devs couldn't shut up about their racism. Congratulations on getting a soon to be brick!
>>
>>744531562
that and all the vibe coding going on with recent homebrew
>>
>>744531562
>noooooooo not my heckin kickass homebrew download client I'll have to connect to my PC now
Who cares as long as you can download games with pkgj
>>
>>744526790
>the hall mechanism is junk and the OLED screen is early days for the tech so it's still susceptible to stick drift and burn-in
>susceptible
So yours doesn't actually have stick drift or burned in OLED? You're complaining about shit that COULD happen but actually didn't happen yet after the console released 15 years ago?

I have an OLED vita and the screen is still beautiful and there's absolutely no stick drift whatsoever, so to me it just sounds like you're full of shit and never actually owned an OLED vita.

Yeah and they get really cult-like about the Vita's inherent superiority

Why?

a slightly better PSP with a handful of exclusive vita games on it.

I was a fool and bought a first party memory card so I gotta boot my vita up every now and then or the entire thing just corrupts. don't really care enough to pivot to SD2vita either, I used to play PS1 games on it mostly but I have a CRT now, so I use that for my PS1 games.

>no counter argument just muh internet boogeyman
ok
>>
>Drop super racist statements in a vidya discord server and get reported
>Blame it on vibecoders that were just porting shit to a dead scene without causing any harm to anybody
>Kill your outdated homebrew storefront blaming the surge of vibecoded games as the cause
>Thinks the whole scene will beg for them to revert all of their shit
>Instead someone vibecodes a new Homebrew storefront that is open sourced and decentralized so this shit doesn't happen again
This guy was shunned from the 3DS scene for being a bitch 10 years ago, this is nothing new really.
>>
I think the vita was a good buy in maybe 2016/17 but it's outclassed completely by the chinkhelds these days.
>>
>>744534408
Soon as the Retroid Pocket 2S hit the scene and we started getting good handhelds around the $100 mark there was basically no reason to buy a Vita, that little powerhouse could handle even most of the Vita's PS2 games better than it could, and the 2S is really not intended as a PS2/Gamecube machine
>>

>>
>>744532648
Yes but it's basically discord chatroom: anonymous edition, and they don't even keep up with the scene where there is actually some nice homebrew even, I mean it's old news but GTA:SA is playable without issue and now even Simpsons Hit 'n Run got most excellent port it shits on the shitty anthologies of Jak and Ratchet.

Personally though with this latter subject I love it solely for being the perfect machine for Dead Space Mobile.
>>
>>744533817
If you have money to spare and time to waste and use aliexpress as a shop already. Troubleshoot what has been broken and if it's not replacable try snatching some broken Vita from ebay or your country's equivalent and you can goof about with modding it with iphone speakers, C charging and data port and some guy even changed it's battery on a better phone one.

Neat, will check this out.
>>
>>744536190
>it's basically discord chatroom
i mean that's kind of the point of a general. it's the reason why /vg/ was made in the first place, as a containment board for chatroom threads so they would be kept off of /v/.

>>the Vita's library is barren if you don't like Underage Panty Quest dungeon-crawler games
does anybody have recommendations if i enjoy this genre?
>>
>>744538897
There's also Vice City and III working just as well.

Be sure to give Dead Space a try there seriously, it is that much worth it.
>>744539482
Sure.. but honestly it would genuinely be a fun place to hang around if they cared just a little more other than porn dumps since I am very much thankful to very first post there being recommendation of all native Vita games to try.

I think it's kinda a bummer they don't keep up with the homebrew scene as though maybe niche fun things are happening:
>DS emulator
>Minecraft Enhanced
>Cuphead port
>Blasphemous port
>someone is even attempting Hollow Knight port capped at 30 FPS
>Batman The Dark Knight Rises
>DMC 4 Refrain
>chinese porting maybe the godawful RE4 mobile but on Vita it has some potential to be fixed

And overall I am taking all this from this guy https://www.youtube.com/@ZealousChuck/videos who's a little bit too obsessed with a word "comrade" and really does seem like a tankie which is most utmostly lame.
Because many ports he covers are really awesome as I would say making Vita library more complete.

/vitagen/ could actually talk about video games more than just someone picking something from the library if so..
>>
Vita is...alive?
>>
>>744540439
I kinda gave more popular choices but then again, truly noteworthy things are like:
>Xash 3d making Half-Life and a lot of mods playable
>native ports of N64 games
>Quakespasm and it's mods available to play, possibly the same for DOOM wads obviously
>finally someone using OpenMW to port Morrowing in

There is probably a lot more if one is simply into the scene.
And very comfy handheld simply feels somewhat more alive and definitely more reliable.

I would certainly love if some autist used Quakespasm to make babby tier installation of Slayer's Testament making Doom Eternal-lite on the Vita.

>and they don't even keep up with the scene where there is actually some nice homebrew even
That's because there's a homebrew thread on the board. People kept coming to vitagen and derailing the thread, so they would get redirected. I'm pretty sure it's only frequented by a handful of regulars now. I'd still play with those guys if Sony didn't kill the online services. I miss the old vitagen days.
