There are no time constraints. You can reverse time at any point.
>>
>>744534386
I just don't like visible timers, they stress me out. Makes me feel like I'm constantly being inefficient. And I don't think a global timer fits a Zelda game, or at least not in the way MM designed it. Having to do a bunch of chores over and over to access sidequests because everything reset gets old.
I like how Outer Wilds handled it because the timer is the world itself, you can tell how far the loop has progressed based on how each planet looks (how high the sand is, etc). Resetting is also significantly less painful because it's easy to get back to where you were most of the time. It's a game built with a timeloop from the bottom up rather than being stapled onto an existing genre.
I think the longer a loop is in a timeloop game the worse it is. Losing so much progress doesn't feel good.
>>
Anyone who doesn't appreciate Majora's Mask is an absolute pleb. They just don't get it. They have weird problems with their ability to even understand what the game is and how it functions, so their complaints about the game don't even have a basis in reality, just in their distorted perception. They complain about things like "time limits" or reusing assets, and their takes on these subjects are so simplistic. Just tasteless retards.
>>
>>744534386
because finding out that you need to be in a specific place at/by a specific time SUCKS. reset the days, stand around doing fucking nothing while you wait. or, try to pass the time doing something else, lose track of time, miss your appointment, and have to do it again. FUCK THAT.

also, you underestimate my ability and desire to just fuck around. if i want to autistically check every single corner, i should be able to. dont undo my progress and yank me away. fuck off with that. fuck time limits.

on paper, i certainly respect the design of it and dont fault people for liking it, but it just isnt for me. that said, mm, oot, and pretty much everything on the n64 aged like milk anyway.

Did you ever look at the moon in Majora's mask like at all?
>Resetting is also significantly less painful because it's easy to get back to where you were most of the time
You never have to repeat a side quest in MM though, once you get the mask that's it. You don't need to get the deku mask again , you dont' need to escort the goron through the winter and thaw him out to get gorons lullaby again, you don't need to find the Zora eggs again.
The entire point of time loop is you have infinite time,
You can't say they didn't build the game around the time loop when so many shortcuts are added because you are looping. I think the problem MM has is it just didn't make the shortcuts really obvious like a game like death loop did and if some reason you didn't discover the scarecrow songs yeah you're pretty fucking cooked.
But you lose nothing and the only side quest that's really irritating to fuck up is the wedding mask and maybe the milk mask, but you don't need those to clear the game only to get the best ending.

If anything the devs are too fucking generous because you get the perfect ending based off the masks you get and never once have to figure out how to fit everything into 3 days because the game was never about making the perfect route or making the player feel hurried at all.

It's why people are forced to lose the first 3 days, so they can deal with the fact they're going to need to reset.

and it sucks starting something, it takes to long to complete or figure out, you have to reset, and then when you b-line to it from the get go you can finish it. then what do you do with the rest of your time? half ass some other task or dungeon that you have to repeat the first 50% of because your progress didnt line up with the clock well enough? it fucking sucks.

It didn't filter me, I still enjoy MM and wouldn't change that aspect of it, because it's worth it to have such a thematic defining feature. But it does introduce a few things that become tedious the more you play it.
>reach the area dungeon
>whoops, better revert time so I don't run out before finishing
>gotta bank my rupees before reverting
>gotta play the inverted song of time again
>gotta get that chest with the silver rupee
>gotta cut some grass to get my consumables back
>time to do a Bombers quest
>whoops I missed it, better revert again
>gotta show up early and just wait this time
And there aren't really any consequences or incentives to try to be more efficient aside from saving yourself the hassle, so it's not really a question of difficulty. It's understandably divisive. The game has cult classic status for a reason.

I mean you just reset man. The devs didn't communicate it very well but the masks are the goal. If you do a side quest blitz it and get the mask you've won basically.
Reset and dedicate your time to something else.
You never have to do it again and to get the perfect run you never have to think about it again.
Also the point of a time loop game any time loop game is to explore, starting something fucking it up and doing it over but more efficiently is kind of the point and I can respect that people might just dislike time loop games as a concept if they don't enjoy the idea of that.
I'd argue at best the game could have benefited from a restart to the start to the day song, and the giants should give you the time songs because I'm not entirely sure how many people who dislike MM ever talked to the scarecrow.
Now days it wouldn't matter because people would just read a guide though.

Because it feels retarded to be under a time limit when your objective is exploring the world you're in.

The whole time you are under a time limit, you are uncomfortable. Not in the "Majora's Mask is supposed to be uncomfortable" kind of way, it just sucks because it makes you feel like you can't take in the ambiance of the world or search for secrets because you dont have time. Point A to point B only. Don't take too much time figuring out what actually point A or B are either, or song of time, back to the start with you.

Not to mention certain evens only occur or are available during certain hours of certain days. Now you've introduced a scheduling nightmare into my gaming session that if I fuck up I just have to song of time and do the whole thing over again, hope I dont miss the 6 hrs. window of this event this time while I'm trying to do other things.

Obviously this doesnt only apply to MM but to any game with time mechanics.

It was a pretty interesting game, but i have to say, all the themes of the game didnt really vibe with me. Reincarnation, the inevitability of death despite your denials, tragedy in childhood or being taken before you accomplished what you need, music outlasting the life that created it, etc. Didnt really relate to any of these themes.

I will say though, the one theme that really hits like a sack of bricks no matter how many times you play the game is something i havent experienced in any other vidya. That feeling when you solve someones problem, save them from their tragic fate, and then move on to the next cycle realizing that you dont have time for them anymore (likely because you unlocked the piece of progression you need from them) feels really tragic. Stuff like romani ranch, the gibdo mask house, unfreezing snowhead, rescuing the deku princess and saving the monkey, giving the fish her voice back, etc. Its a very unique feeling of moving on knowing that you could stop their problems, knowing their fate, but you dont have time for it let alone a reason to do it. You cant really get that feeling without the time constraint
>>
>>744537348
>You never have to repeat a side quest in MM though
You do if you're slow, for example if you fail to collect all of the eggs within one loop then you have to restart from the beginning. Cleaning out the pirate fortress, taking a photo of a pirate, and then doing the seahorse side quest to get all the eggs is simple in replays, but someone doing it for the first time might have trouble without a guide.

I understand the sentiment but nothing felt better than having the couples mask and hearts clean up as my final cycle into Majora's boss fight. It felt like perfect schedule guides in persona.

Why are you faggots trying to lie? If you miss a fairy in a dungeon you have to collect all of them all over again. If you don't finish a dungeon before running out of time you have to start all over again. If you fuck up a sidequest you have to redo it from the very beginning. All of that is lost progress.

people don't like the idea that of failure of mismanaged time, which is extra funny in the case of MM because there's no real consequence other than having to hit a rewind, where bad management in dead rising as >>744534496 brings up is much more punishing because there is no easy rewind. people usually play games to relax, and tight deadlines are stressors.

Three in-game days to beat a dungeon and get all of the fairies, probably on a fucking first attempt even, is more than enough time. You don't even really need any of the upgrades they give you.

This isn't a problem with Majora's Mask. It's a problem with nu-faggots playing any older game who expect everything to be handed to them on the first try so they can check off an imaginary box. You see the same bitching from people playing old Pokemon games or anything they heard about, and wanting to just do everything so they can say they did it. These games were meant to be played, and for a long time. You keep coming back to it, getting better, finding new shit, etc. Of course everything is "tedious" and "time-wasting" when you're trying to brute force it all.

Majora's Mask isn't perfect, and there's plenty of things you might end up using a guide for, but these people come into all these games with the complete wrong mindset.
>>
>>744534386
People don't like time constraints. Legend of zelda is also a comfy game. Time constraints and comfy games usually don't mix. It's not that important considering you just reset on the first day again anyway, but people still felt pressured. Still made it one of the most unique games at the time
>>
>>744534386

>>
>>744537845

>>
>>744562774
The very fact that you could spend three fucking hours trying to do something and then have to do most of that all over again because you missed one thing is absolutely insane.

The flipside of this is that you're calming that the game is actually so easy and everything is so easy to find that that even an idiot should be nigh guaranteed to be able to fully clear out every dungeon first time.

Either of those things must be the case, so the time system is obviously severely flawed and the specific way it potentially punishes someone is absurd and timewasting the latter is what makes it so ridiculously pointless, as it turns things that would potentially take an extra minute to do in OoT if you could solve a problem, but turns that into half and hour or significantly more of busywork that isn't even going to challenge you.
>>
>>744534386
Why do MMfags keep coping like that?
Nobody got filtered by the three days constraint, but by the sheer fucking autism this game has going for it.
>every minigame takes longer than it should because hurr 3 days
>fuck up a quest midway/to the end hurr have to do the while thing from the get to again because muh 3 days
>having to get consumables back again and again because hurr autism
>every tuned quest gives you just enough time to finish it perfectly, no failure allowed bullshit

>it just sucks because it makes you feel like you can't take in the ambiance of the world or search for secrets because you dont have time
This is a huge deal that's in practice why tons of people don't enjoy it that much, and it really is a fault of design. It's like, in OoT if there's some specifically obscure secret somewhere, you can just take time out to search for it and the game can reward you for doing so without wasting your time more than naturally necessary.

MM absolutely *does* have that kind of thing in abundance, but if you actually want to discover a lot of that stuff, you have to basically burn a cycle repeating things you've already done just in case there might be an Easter Egg to discover, and whether you find some thing or not, either way the way the game's tasks work means that you're forced to spend a significant amount of time setting shit up to just investigate the most minor thing, and if you fail to find anything (which will generally be the case unless you're specifically tipped off to there being something) then you just wasted all that time and have to basically dedicate a new cycle to whatever the next thing you want to do is, unless you know for sure you have the time for some other thing (which almost always means it's something you've already done). This actually fucks over a lot of the game's time based quests, as they basically have to tell you what to do next to avoid just screwing you, which heavily limits how those quests are designed. The exceptions to this like the Postman's Hat are enormously tedious unless you actually ignore the game's deliberate red herrings that lead you away from the solution.

It's a game that's heavily geared towards people who like masochistic grind heavy games.
>>
its not a time limit. anyone who says it is hasnt played the game
>>
>>744573465
This is a meaningless series of words. You can easily miss something you'd have to do by a given time and hen have to repeat all the events up to that point to get back to the same state. It's insane how MMfags outright try to deny this or how obnoxious it can be.
>>
I've still never sat down with MM seriously to try to play it through. I just don't have an interest in timed mechanics in general like that, even if you eventually work the leeway in, and if I screw up or take too long I have to start a quest from the very beginning, even waiting around repeatedly at specific points depending on the quest and version of the game I'm playing? A lot of people just don't want to deal with that.
>>
>>744573672
>even waiting around repeatedly at specific points depending on the quest and version of the game I'm playing?
Yes, this is the worst part of the original game, since it turns what would otherwise be the best and most complex quests into absurd tedium.

Thankful there are versions where you can avoid that repetition through reloads which is technically also possible in the western version of the N64 game by copying save states between two files before loading, but the game just makes tasks a slog in general by doing things like making you collect everything in a collection quest all at once skultulas and the like actually reset between cycles, so you're forced to collect enough in a given cycle to get your rewards as the individual tokens don't save.
>>
Its the best Zelda game for a reason
