I am too retarded for the style of combat in the Xenoblade series. I am used to either old school turn-based combat or Kingdom Hearts style ARPG combat. The auto-attacks and specials all feel weightless (both player and enemy) and my only strategy for bosses is to grind till I am way overleveled. The strategy of team and special attack composition is completely lost on me. Still absolutely love the worlds, exploration, and music though.

>>744559767If you don't mind a little history lesson, the type of combat most mmos along with xenoblade and a few other single player rpgs are "skill" based/focused. "Skill" as in actual ability skills, not "getting gud" skill. You focus more on the character's skills and positions than you do mashing the attack button. The reason why is because old school mmos couldn't handle something like Mario 64 or Spyro being an online game due to how basic internet infrastructure was. Servers wouldn't be able to handle that many type of commands let alone complex combos like something from Kingdom Hearts so mmo developers had to come up with a workaround. What they came up with was queuing a lot of actions like attacking which eliminated the always needing to press the attack button since you're not really doing anything and just blindly mashing 1 button all the time. This leaves the player a lot of room and freedom to manage multiple skills at once which makes it much much much easier to manage 10, 20, or even 30 skills at once. Not only that but also positioning your character better. Xenoblade of course doesn't give you that many skills to work with in battle but they still borrowed and improved on some of the old school mmo combat. Your combos, damage, and sometimes your defenses and evasion come from skills not normal attacks. Blindly mashing skills won't get you very far in some cases and often times you want to time certain skills before or after others. Xenoblade's combat is essentially a rhythm game and oddly enough, requires more coordination than most action games but that's a whole other rant from me.

Are they going to fix this audio mixing issue? The sound effects are insanely loud and drown everything out. I can barely hear the battle music over the sound of smacking the enemy and the footstep noises are super distracting at times. Other nitpicks I hope Genesis will improve upon (& should have been patched to even the S1 version of XC2):- The game is too chatty to the point that voice clips overlap when collecting crap and in battle. They should have tons of clips for this shit since it adds a lot of flavor but they need to be more careful with how they play them back. Fire only one voice clip followed by a small pause and use a shuffle algorithm to avoid repetition. An option to adjust the pause between voices would be great too.- Option to show subtitle toasts for all the voice clips. Tokyo Xanadu eX+ and probably some other Falcom games did this. An essential option for us kimono dudes playing the game in a language we don't understand. Also good for cripples and ESLs. Ideally have three separate options for battle, field skill activation and post battle banter.
