The obsession with unrestricted gameplay even in dungeons, which was a deliberate choice given ascent/climbing/item crafting is restricted in some critical sections and limited in shrines, really made for dull dungeon design. (This goes for echoes of wisdom which feels like you're speeding through dungeons with speedrunning exploits or moonjumping cheats)

Why is it that the story that was taking place in the present, while fairly generic, was fine, but every time we got a flashback to Zelda in the past it felt so poorly-written and lame? Even the ancestors of the sages flashbacks were lame. It feels like anything to do with the past whatsoever was handled by a worse, less-competent part of the writing team or something.

I prefer Skyward Sword
it doubled down on some of the wonkier or disliked elements and became more of a chore to work through on top of just being an all stop shop for central gimmick mechanics, all the time. if you like those elements and resource management, it's a great game and an improvement over the first; if you wished this shit didn't exist in the first game, it's absolutely just worse across the board.
