>gameplay loop
>weapon sandbox
>ludonarrative dissonance
>>744549754What's wrong with this term
>>744550619the word loop is usually redundant, in most cases when you're describing a game's gameplay loop you're usually just describing its gameplay
>analog pleasure
>emergent gameplay
>>744549754>gameplay loop loop
>>744549754>>744549894>>744549960>>744551176>>744551401>>744551521>>744551606It upsets you because it reminds you that you're being distracted by flashing lights and autism tier tasks like pressing and fidgeting with buttons and sticks.
>>744551689it makes me horny actually
>>744551689The only autism tier task I fear will be your head falling into a vat of acid with me wearing your fucking moron face as a party mask.
>>744550619It's used as a buzzword. It doesn't even really apply that well into all games.
>>744551176I see what you're saying but I find it misguided. Gameplay is not the same as the gameplay loop, the loop is the entire process, including non-gameplay elements like menu navigation or games with time limit levels cycling (like Pikmin). The gameplay loop is the entire system at a glance. I could say I love the entire process of cooking a meal, but that also entails cleaning the kitchen and washing the dishes. I just enjoy putting the food in the skillet and adding the seasoning, I don't really care about the rest. You can say I like cooking, some aspects of cooking, but I do not like the cooking process. Likewise I could say I like the gameplay of daytime Sonic in Sonic Unleashed, but the gameplay loop includes the werehog stages, which I am not a fan of.
>mouth feel
>immersive sim
>>744553028You're not even using the term the way it's intended. It's supposed to mean the most basic core of the game, like in Pokemon the gameplay loop is fight battles to gain xp to be able to fight more battles to gain more xp

>>744553136>wabi-sabi
>>744552737I RECALL QUITE CLEARLY TELLING YOU NOT TO MAKE WAVES!!!

>>744549754To this day I have no idea what roguelike is but it seems like every indie game is one.
>>744553124...so you can then level go fight specific staged fights, unlock new areas, explore those areas, catch and possibly train new pokemon to get stronger to... etcThat's the entire loop. As I said, the whole at a glance.
>>744553398It's like the game rogue. Kind of like FPS games are doomlikes.
>>744553372gameplay happens spontaneously. think "radiant quests" from skyrim.
>>744553029what even is that? not the first time I heard it
>>744550619There's nothing wrong with it. People usually misuse the term when applying it to modern vidya though which typically doesn't have any to speak of, so the term is becoming less relevant when discussing triple AAA cinematic slop that practically plays itself because the modern audience is basically a retarded baboon that doesn't really want to play vidya but pretend to in order to get it over with quicker and participate in the social event of having "played" it.
>>744553372Emergent: a greater pattern emerges that's more than the sum of its parts. Simple rules -> complex situation.
>>744549754>gameplay fork
>>744551176>when you're describing a game's gameplay loop you're usually just describing its gameplayNo... you're describing how it loops. 'Gameplay' is just a broad, surface level term that mostly describes controls in combat, in driving, or fishing, etc. Gameplay loop refers to how the game 'persists' after the gameplay subsides, and whether or not the progression/fetch system is pleasing. This is very different from describing how the game controls.Honestly your lack of understanding kind of explains why you hate the term you don't understand.
>>744549754>gameplay poop
>>744551521>systems-based gameplay
>>744553670anyone know the sauce on this old-ass image?
>>744554136>Your majesty! Hitler and his minions have seized the island of DEUTSCHLAND!
>>744553550It's some shit about how food and drink "feels" in your mouth, like the difference between ice cream and a popsicle. Some troon co-opted it to refer to oral sex.
>>744553398it's a weird revival of arcade game designwhere arcade games were made to be difficult to force you to restart the game while eating your quarters (allowing them to make shorter games profitable), roguelikes are designed to be difficult to force you to restart the game while eating your time (allowing them to market mechanically sparse games as hundred hour epics)
>>744550619Dopamine slop.
>Onboarding systems
>>744555824Oh, the other benefit is that it maximizes the amount of time your friends (or, streamers) spend on the game, maximizing its network effect in marketing
As with everything video games, you have to return to tabletop RPG to understand. The gameplay loop of old-school D&D was: enter dungeon, overcome obstacles and hazards, get treasure, return to town, level up and buy equipment. That is not the entire gameplay of the game, but it's the gameplay loop. It's a useful term for developers or people that want to understand game structure, but it's meaningless to the average player.
>>744557094hold up that pictures funny
>>744551176BRO you just don't GET IT you're PLAYING the GAME but it's like you're PLAYING it OVER and OVER again like it's a LOOP like when you're playing SOCCER and you KICK the BALL over AND over again and YOU go to the other side AND THEN it gets kicked back to YOUR SIDE so you have to LOOP BACK to the OTHER SIDE and you KICK the ball AGAIN it's like a SPORT LOOP because you're LOOPING the same ACTION no it's not a regular SPORT because a regular sport IS when you're doing all the side stuff not THE MAIN gameplay LOOP so the MAIN GAMEPLAY LOOP IS CALLED the loop dumbass
More like gameplay POOP
