Nah during the launch build before they improved responsiveness of movement, fighting that drill boss was genuinely a pain in the ass. I did beat it, but by god was it annoying when you take 0.8 unexaggerated seconds after moving to actually begin to move. It just didn't feel good at all. I think it's in a pretty good place now. Now instant reaction that makes the animations look ugly, but not so slow that it feels bad.

It was pretty fun until you get revenge on that enemy faction and the guy that sold you out from the beginning but it lost me after you met the 2 witches run around the map and get on a dragon
It also keeps getting updates every week so i just keep waiting it out

Got 100 hours out of it in the first 2-3 weeks. Enjoyed it, and weirdly they have fixed alot of issues like the other two characters not being able to do puzzles or much of anything in the world. However its also a game I kinda have zero interest revisiting unless someone pulls an Enderal and makes a new map/story for it. Its just too big and doing puzzles/seeing shit for the first time was more of the enjoyment wandering about.

Pearl Abyss had made only a single game before crimson desert, black desert online, which is a super grindy Korean MMO. I like it a lot and it's definitely my GotY so far. I didn't follow any of the hype/hate beforehand so it kinda came out of left field for me when I bought it out of curiosity.
The puzzles being something you can stumble upon and barely having an explanation is something I really liked. The "figure it out yourself" mindset is appreciated even if the solutions were bullshit sometimes.

Yes. I can say that I am a huge fan of the game now. I will say, however that the final boss was pretty underwhelming. It honestly suffers from a lot of the story coherence issues that the majority of the game suffers from. Still my game of the decade despite that. With little competition.

I think the game is pretty cool and one of the most interesting things i've played in a while, both in terms of what it does as game in a meta sense. Other open world fantasy formats could learn alot from Crimson Desert - it's also full of truly bizarre ideas that are probably best left alone unless there's an actual attempt to incorporate it properly.
It's all the fun of a euroslop game but with weird eastern MMO sensibilities, trying to ape over western games but then also being it's own fucking weird ass beast by itself.

Overall I do find it a little frustrating because with some actual direction it has the makings of something genuinely fantastic. It benefits alot from the flat development style it had, but all that does is beg for somebody with a vision to come along and unify that into something that's properly paced, with proper progression, with actual characters to create intrigue in the world, proper character/player expression itself.
What's more you can see it would actually be really fucking easy to do that with just a few reasonably developed tweaks. Get a proper character creator, commit to the "start from nothing" idea, put effort into less characters and flesh them out more, have a proper gear progression system with actual character builds, put more enemy types in, etc.

I just need somebody to combine this and Dragon's Dogma together and you have the biblically accurate perfect open world fantasy format. It's just sitting there, ready to exist.
