Now that the dust has settled was this the beginning of the end for Xbox?
>>
Don was just too early to the trend
Should have waited

all tech giants were destined to be adult daycare, it would have mattered one way or the other what he said

RROD and Kinect was the beginning of the end
This was the final nail in the coffin
>>
The strategy was made years in advance, they just completely fucked their strategy
The kinect was an incredibly expensive thing to put in the box for every console sold.
Moving away from 1st party games was braindead.
Always online drm box was a standard idea to combat game resells, sony wanted the same and simply changed course to get a pr win over xbox
>>
If either Sony or Microsoft subtly pulled that now, nobody would probably care. Most people barely give a shit about Sony wanting to axe discs.

pretty much
you've got to boil the frogs, he was way too upfront and honest about what microsoft was trying to do

Don did nothing wrong.

It was Kinect. They had the right strategy for the first half of the 360's lifespan (cheaper than PS3, more AAA exclusives, better user experience) and then saw the Wii sell 5x as much to people who didn't give a shit about software quality and decided to chase that niche instead.

Trying to focus Xbox One on non-game media was born out of the same type of thinking. They saw how many people were using their 360 as a netflix machine and decided that was the future and that it would be glorious since outside parties would be producing all of the content that was consumed on Xbox at almost zero cost to Microsoft. Somehow it never occurred to them that rokus and smart TVs would completely dominate this niche within a couple of years, at which point they were left with nothing.

Dusty old bones full of green dust
