I have done away with doing child quests as it was adding entries rather than bullet points, and built a structure array for new objective tasks, updated the widget to put the text slighlty lower than the short description and it is modular so I can add a lot of objectives to each quest in the side quest data table seamlessly.

I have been working on a competitive online 4 player game were each player battles in an arena to be the last one standing. I decided to make some neural network powered bots for single player. The unexpected thing is I have been having a lot of fun training the various bots, between tweaking the network itself and the fitness function for rewards and punishment there is a lot of room to make bots with various personalities.I was wondering could this be a side game in my game, where you make and train a bot that will compete with other people's bots online. The training and battling part would be like an idler game (which is a big contrast to the main game which is quite attention demanding) where you watch as it trains and the fitness increases. There would be a leader board for the best bots/trainers.What do you guys think?

>>744597069Playing devil's advocate, but when people watch streamers like markplier play games, they're watching for the streamer, not to discover new games. On the flipside with Iron Pineapple videos, I think people are more likely to play/buy the games featured in those videos, because they typically watch them for the games and not because it's Iron Pineapple making the video. However, I think it won't be a huge help for goblin dev specifically because of how early into development that his game got featured, especially if and when he changes the name from "Project Goblin" to something more real/tangible of a title... >>744599701My one request is to please don't make sitting in these for 5+ seconds part of your level design. It's one thing to have them walk into the spot they need to be for you to jump in and jump out to cross a gap, but using them as a taxi will kill the momentum so hard.

After an unspecified amount of time, the Daimons disappeared and left behind their technology. After eons passed through the Age of Survival, then the Age of Chaos, and ultimately coming to the current Age of Peace, the once plentiful technological reserves of the Daimon have all but vanished. >>744611668sounds like a fun idea and something I'd play if I had people to play with>Classless builds where players choose from categorized skills to build their charactersas an alternate idea, how about if it's the weapons you equip what grant you the combat skills? That would prevent players from always playing the same build, and balance between builds wouldn't be as important/mandatory as players would have no way to always pick the best stuff

>>744615671when could I try your game anon?

Hello lads - I wanted to ask for your opinion. My game is planned to release on Steam & Android, and I'm also aiming at having it be playable on the browser. It's (obviously) gonna be free on Browser and on Android, the latter with ads.Knowing this, should the game also be free on Steam? I think so, but I read that free games actually perform worse than 5$ games. I was thinking of going the Helltaker way and have the game be free with a DLC on the side that's just the music & the artbook. What do you guys think?
GigaMaidens stuff.I managed to find several team members from my local scene willing to help me develop this game, so finally we're gonna have progress to share soon. In case you forgot it's my giantess fighting game. 3D fighting game, lowpoly, 1v1. Sort of like Soulcalibur but with low gravity and moon launches and a neutral game with projectiles and supers.Been thinking the single player mode is an ActRaiser like where you travel around a map and save people in danger and transport them inside your body to a safe city that you build by hand (literally plopping buildings and civilians down in your hands). What do you think?
>>744615671I love this fruity blue nigga like you wouldn't believe
>>744616716Why do you care about performance at this level? No one knows you and no one cares about your mobile deckbuilding game with stats and gems and no hot babes. Just release it, take the free quarter pounder combo meal you make from it, and move on.
>>744615671ExcellentThis video makes me think the music should be like thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v53IBdDvvRs
>>744611996Thanks, goblin bro. I know that in Guild Wars 2, you have a set of weapon skills and a set of class skills. Maybe I could let the player mix and match weapon and "class" skills.
>>744618537that could be pretty nice! how have you envisioned the combat to be? Action? Turn based?
>>744562604what a retarded postlet's add visual studio code and c# while we're at it, and python too for good measure. those are some of my favorite game engines
>>744618703Since it's action, I was thinking of making easy to pick up and play. Third person shooter and hack and slash style controls. Something like a ghetto Jedi Academy.
>>744617481nice art
>>744611668>>Classless builds where players choose from categorized skills to build their charactersBased, but do make "starting loadouts" so players are eased into this system by getting a wizard setup and then finding skills to replace pieces of it.>Loot is static, but a friend suggested randomizing the statsI'm not a big fan of these, but I do think a few games do it right. Consider adding some "pity" mechanics so it's not rolling the dice 100 times to get a strong item. Some ideas for that I've seen or thought of myself.>combine two of the same item, taking the highest stats>e.g. you have a 50atk 20def and 40atk 30def item, you combine them, you get 50atk 30def item>break down spare items you find for resources, or resources that drop from the area the item normally comes from>you can then spend that resource to fortify other items, being able to reach max value, or even surpass it but at a risk of going even lower (Dofus had "Maging" that worked like this, it was SUPER autistic in a good way)>items have a "quality" value, and the item stats can be reforged>if an item, for example, can roll between 30-50 for strength and dexterity, and it rolled 80% quality, it'd be 46 str and 46 dex. then, you can reforge it, to move points from strength into dexterity>it could also not be a linear exchange, and gets exponentially more expensive, so pushing to 47 dex would require 2 points from str, 48 would require 4, 49 would require 8, and 50 would take 16 off str
More progress! NPCs have "stages" now so they can say different stuff at different times. Oh and npcs can give you stuff now!>>744618929nice! damn I'm sure I'll love that. Be careful tho because melee combat can be tricky to pull off, plus making all it's animation is a lot of work.

>>744611668As always, the quality of the fame depends on the execution not the idea. Though I have to say the kind of game you are describing will wake over 5 years to make solo, even with AI.
>>744617481i dunno im not that type of degen it all sounds like nonsense to me
>>744592884Why not decomp the even more incredible machine?
>>744609706You know it bro.
scaling things is so sillytrying out some shooty game stuff, and the characters need to be at almost punching range in cramped rooms to be readable, because if you go for "realistic" distances for a gun fight (not even that far) they're just tiny blips in the horizon, there's only so much screen space to work withi know all shooter games have it like this, but i hadn't thought about just how close things need to be. it's like giant men stomping around in miniature arenasthis room was like 4 times as big originally
Figured out and came around on specular maps. Turns out the secret is thus:Grayscale the texture, then invert the colors, then use color ramps('levels' filter in krita) to darken the bright spots and add contrast to the darker bits. turned out very well for the floor tiles(though you cant see it in this pic).More importantly, concave collisions(seen with shelves in pic) are in. I was under the impression idtech relied on a separate file to handle model collisions but turns out there's a flag you can set on the base model entity class to have it figure it out itself.Next is to return to the C++ side of things for implementing object spawners and object consumption triggers(I.E, gas can pops out of a hole, gas can is rubbed on generator and pops out of existence)I also made light fixtures and some progress on figuring out how to make effectively lit rooms not look like shit with specular reflections.
>>744621409Anon, turn that texture filtering a little bit up, looks hideous
>>744561898>DEVELOPINNo but I added some trees(about a million) and managed to get proper wind animation shaders for them working.

What are the dream games you guys want to develop, that are currently dreams but you will one day make real?Outside of making Kasha into a series and making GigaMaidens I have one other concept that I wish to make happen one day. It's called TOGOAAn online multiplayer game (not a service game, one you actually buy and own) involving all manner of multiplayer activities with cute anteaters. Originally I envisioned it as a triathlon racing game where you have to race all your opponent anteaters out of the zoo and to the mega anthill on the other side of the map. It starts out with a zoo escape, then a jungle stage, and finally a hot rod death rally once you make it to the last stage where you all have to jump in an available hot rod and boost to the finish. Get a good hot rod before everyone else otherwise you're stuck with a mediocre one while the first players get the good ones. Also has other modes like anteater deathmatch and king of the anthill and stuff.Selectable anteater species include northern and southern tamanduas, giant anteaters, pangolins, aardvarks, and silky anteaters."TOGOA" is an acronym meaning "The Official Game Of Anteaters".
debug visualization chain for missing textures, also defaults missing models as a placeholder cube instead of failing/crashing...in picrel the monkeys purposefully are missing a texture so they render like this instead of failing. Might change the shader to be some other color but this is good enough for now
Okay my game Ive been working on off and on for years actually sucks ass I've spent too long trying to "fix" it.I'm thinking of project hopping and making something with very small scope like a very short survival horror slop.
what is your opinion on gamified UI-reliant job/busywork games like Papers Please, Chef's Life Restaurant Simulator
>>744625942>gamified UI-reliantWe call those "streamer bait" 'round these parts.
>>744623859That's cute as heck, anon
I found a kind of huge bug but honestly, I don't think I'm going to fix it. It'd require rewriting a huge amount of code (that I've already rewritten multiple times), so I think I'm just going to ignore it and hope no one notices.
>>744561898Any ideas on how i could make this jumping animation smoother?
>>744629909Look into the 12 principals of animationOne of those principals is "anticipation" try and add a frame between those two where the kangaroo "builds up" the power before the jump. It should give a more smooth feeling to it. And after that you can work on the timing.

>>744631430then go buy 10000 of each of them to compensate for dogshit sales that they get, nobody cares about your taste faggot
>>744630920True. We need more porn games.
>>744632087half of popular new releases these days is porn
>>744632087I'm an old time artist/animator who has done nsfw in the past, but have recently been pondering about nsfw games. Like for example, i really enjoyed nemleis games (coffin of andy/no good noelle/better half/etc), but none of the games have explicit sex scenes, just implied. So the story ive been tinkering with in a similar fashion, would it also downplay the games main story if there are lewd graphic sex scenes, and people playing would want to instead fast forward through that to get to lewds?
>>744632462Do you still do animation/art?
>>744632493I haven't for a while but i used to be pretty popular. Online work was kinda fun but as i grew older, finances of commission work and whatnot just weren't quite what I imagined having for actual future life, so i had to refocus on that for a decade. Now that im in a good place ive wanted to get back into it.
>>744632462the only thing that matters if whether your game features explicit sex scenes or not, in that case it will be hidden from majority of steam users that never change default settings
>>744632590player that do play porn games (children) do skip all your story, especially when they have been conditioned to expect it to be garbage to begin with
>>744617481>Sort of like Soulcalibur but with low gravity and moon launchesDunno, feels like an underwhelming use of the "giant" gimmick.Maybe make it like the Kaiju fights in "Bowser's Inside Story", where how far to the left/right you can push your opponent matter - to prevent the other giantess from stomping your city, to push her back so the fight happen over whatever she is protecting, pushing from cliff, etc.Not a fighting game guy tho, so maybe it doesn't *need* more than low grav to feel different from the rest, but still...
>>744632590Interesting, so it doesnt show up in discovery que whatsoever then? How cubersome is it for someone to enable it?I think i can still advertise it on my twitter/youtube, between the two i have around 350k followers, albeit no idea how many are active anymore.
>>744632714simultaneously however dont expect to sell a story game in this day and age unless your art is outstanding or it is indeed porn
>>744624610>that spiralOh shit, nigga is playing with portals to make pocket dimensions.https://youtu.be/F1W6zVJ7Yow?t=606
>>744632854it does show up for those who went in to the settings and enabled it (i'd guess maybe 5-10% of steam users at most). But in order for your game to be suggested by steam in the first place you need around 2-5k wishlists to begin with before launch. However as i said porn players have different expectations. Maybe im wrong but i suspect that featuring an explicit scene in a game that is 99% not porn will only hurt you. And its not really needed in the story to begin with, explicit means dick goes to pussy, you can depict sex without it just fine.
>>744623859>that are currently dreams but you will one day make real?Pokémons, but they are all mini-Kyubeys and the style & themes are closer to the Vampire:The Masquerade. No focus on "Gotta catch 'em all", and instead it's a bunch of separate stories about people trying to make the best of the situation that made them end up be the prey/master one of those little shits.
>>744586589Reminds me of this book.It has a follow up focusing on MonoGame
>>744588880That guy being Five Nights at Freddy's was releasing a dozen games a year at one point. Must not have been serious games though.
>>744634795Why did you format your words like this?
>>744633079Really good arguments. I will try to focus engaging characters/story instead of trying to have porn, might not work but it will be interesting. My porn stuff did get good viewership, but it is only porn in the end.
>>744595747being real you need a better visual style, besides other things.also applicable to most other people herestop making 40 years old graphics here is an example of a game with great gameplay, fucking 97% positive reviews, but it could have been much more if it looked differently
>>744634963just please research the market before making anything that you intend to sell. VNs rarely succeed, its more of an exception these days.
>>744633079more like 7000 wishlists actually
>>744636097Porn is actually the best method to sell a VN these days, lots of porn, every 5-15 minutes.
I'm vibecoding a 2D mystery dungeon style game, just for fun really and see how far I can get. Right now it's text only with some vector graphics for icons and UI but I'm having fun learning how pixel shaders work
>>744634920I guess I meant "behind", not "being." It's late.
>>744632727I'm making a fighting game, not a minigame or side content in an RPG. But yes, the single player where you play as the heroine has an element of keeping the enemy giantesses from destroying everything.I wanted an ActRaiser city building mode where you just put together the city by hand and it mostly takes care of itself, all you have to do is 'feed it' like a pet with some resource and keep it from getting destroyed. Check in on it from time to time to make sure the natives don't get restless. You can be nice or you can be mean to your little humans, but if you go evil your city becomes more of a dystopia and you lock yourself out of the good or true ending.
>>744572676Really, no one has any opinions on this at all?
I started a new soulslike projectI coded in depth combat systems that have 3d models and animations dependencyNow I've been stuck levelling up my art for two weeks so I don't create trash placeholders.Part of the fun in a soulslike is combat, so I can't halfass it. If I do, I can only test the mechanical validity of the systems, not the fun.But I also can't test graphics and level design if my game is broken. So I'll give it until september at the latest to improve my skills, before going back in engine.
>>744635285> but it could have been much more if it looked differentlyIt's marketing was 99.9% "eh, remember the funny kick in that old RPG? Well we made a game that has that AND ONLY THAT".I remember seeing it, I had no idea it even had actual weapons, spells and RPG shit - and I'm probably not the only one.If anything it's not a case of primitive graphics holding you back, it's a case of "we have one gimmick and ensured it eclipse everything else in the mind of potential buyers".
>>744637856>You can be nice or you can be mean to your little humans, but if you go evil your city becomes more of a dystopia and you lock yourself out of the good or true ending. Please don't, that's literally the worst type of "good vs evil" in vidya. If there are no upsides to being evil then don't present it as a choice: it's just a failure state on the same level than purposely letting the enemy hit you.If the choice is "eat the orphans" (-100 population, -1000 moral) or "build an orphanage" (+1000 population, +1 free puppy, +5 attack bonus), why the fuck is it even a choice? If anything, going full evil should be what unlock the true ending, as a hard mode challenge. Otherwise the entire "morality" system is just repeatedly asking the player if he is retarded.

>>744638363I'm happy for youOr sorry that it happened
>>744638881Well I mean, the reason I'd do it this way is because of player agency - I'm assuming there's a lot of players for whom destroying the city on purpose would be hard to resist, even if there's a punishment for it. I could also make it so that inaction or negligence gradually depletes the virtue you've done if you are careless about your humans. You should handle problems for them, but maybe "evil" in this case would be you becoming a cold dictator and getting really wrathful and angry instead of forgiving them for not listening to you.I guess I could omit it and simply let you be as reckless with your humans as you please. But I'd like to give rewards for taking care of them, maybe that'd be enough without the morality system.

>>744675139Assuming that you are not, in fact, Fygoon attempting to garner sympathy, and that this is a sincere question, I'll answer it for you. You're not imagining things in your observations of how others treat him on this board. In fact, you're right on the money. What you're seeing is what we in the industry call the "Crabs in a bucket" mentality, or crabs for short. That mentality is characterized by jealous, incompetent crabs trying to drag down the high-value crabs so that everyone drowns. Ironic, isn't it? Crabs typically don't drown, they're aquatic life, after all, but when confined in a tight space with nodevs and losers, even the strongest of crab will begin to falter before meeting its demise. That's essentially what the nodevs are trying to do to our boy Fygoon. However, despite all of their claims that people can become animals and vice-versa, crabs are not people. That is why all of their pathetic attempts to bring him down have failed, and why time and time again they try to double-down in their antics. If it wasn't so funny to me, a lurker who watches from the sidelines, it would be quite pathetic. If you are of any worth in these threads, those gossiping housewives will try to tear you down as well. In that case, I suggest you take a page out of Fygoon's book, and simply ignore them. Feeding the trolls never ends well, often times they will try to lure you in and doxx you. A tale as old as time, I have seen it happen to many talented devs from this site. I, for one, am glad that Fygoon is standing up to them. Somebody had to do it, and Fygoon is a hero for taking on that burden.

>>744678779>Are any of you even devs or do you come here to just fag the place up and whine to each other about each otherI'm working on a new deathmatch map and will be testing it with a group consisting of myself, Horbror, CIDR, and some other guys. It's based on a location found in the Iron Hundwerks of the Ferrumox Hill region, of course modified to work as a multiplayer map.
>>744676921Not bad for a JRPG-style intro.Would be better if it started with them killing one of the monster guard to enter, THEN having that discussion about who is the senior.
>>744679697Does the setting more leans to a medival times or more like a dark sci-fi in a way?
>>744679112You don't want to make a game, you want to make a short story. So write one.
i want to compete with AAA but have no money or experience, what do
>>744657069It's our nature.
>>744678779its literally what the other anon said where the retard devs just shit this thread up to prevent other people from wanting to post in the thread
>>744681250I already wrote two full length novels and am writing a third.>>744680671It's low fantasy, so magic exists but is largely looked down on.
>>744678779I'm a dev, but I have jackshit worth showing to post since I've been stuck in redoing/optimizing the same shit for months now.
>>744678779I'm always around, posting goblins, asking for feedback and trying to give some in return. Progress has been slow tho, lots of polishing and not many actually new and cool features

>>744675139Where should I even begin? I suppose birth is as good a start as any, seeing as how it's something all of us, even the freaks, have in common with me.I was born into a loving family with traditional values, something that tranime nodevs wouldn't understand. I was raised to value hard work, family values, and yes, a little bit of fun now and then. Tranime nodevs, on the other hand, were raised in broken homes and only had their anime as an escape. To me, games and cartoons are an extension of who I am. To them, it is a replacement. A mere facade hung in front of their eyes so they can continue on in blissful ignorance.Got it? Good. Whenever the tranime nodevs see me succeeding, they are reminded of their own shortcomings and of the fact that they are too scared to face reality. So, what do they pick to attack rather than face the music? Me. I have become the scapegoat for truth in this thick web of lies that the tranime nodevs have wrapped themselves in. It's quite fitting, really. We have no relation, and yet the latch onto me. Just like they latch onto their anime and sick perversions. If anything, I should feel flattered that I am so real, so down to earth, that my mere presence reminds them that they are floating through life with no real direction. In fact, it's an honor to become the king of /v/. Every time a tranime nodev seethes in my direction, I know I am on the right path.
not reading all of that
>>744683192>>744682964Goddammit I'm literally in the middle of trying to de-fatten her ass. Should I legit leave it as-is?

>>744683651Ahahaha, or perhaps it was a realization that you were copying off of Fygoon's signature spinning attack? But sure, tell everyone it was a bug and not fear of being compared to my majestic skillset.

>>744683862sorry sweaty but I was actually copying Kain's signature attack from the videogame Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

>>744684037And Legacy of Kain copied me, so what of it? Bow before your sensei.
>>744684303>And Legacy of Kain copied methat's not how time works anon
>>744684356Perhaps for you, but once the Frydarian anthropologists discovered the secrets of the Primordians, time travel by way of the rift became as easy as a leisurely stroll through Fygoon's keep. It is up to Fygoon to defend the Age of Peace by going back in time and teaching game devs of yore the proper way to make a game. So in simplest terms, every game made takes notes from my creation, as I am the Godfather of games.

Alright, I admit it. I was pretending to be Fygoon during this thread. It wasn't him.Yes, I am a fan, that much was true. Is it really such a crime to try and imitate one's heroes? I think not. In fact, the saying that imitation is the highest form of flattery comes to mind.Sure, I may have gone a bit overboard in my antics, but can you blame me? It's a real challenge to match Fygoon's energy and finesse when it comes to shit posts. That's why I called him the king of /v/, I really believe that to be true, and you can take that to the bank.Fygoon, I am truly sorry for besmirching your name. I hope you can forgive me.
only lolidev progress can save this thread
here's for 5 more years of posting goblins
>>744686530no2 years topsyou want to release while the iron is hot and who knows what's gonna happen. lose a hand in an accident, get bedridden, plop out some kids and never have enough time again.maybe even consider a kickstarter.
>>744684878i mean it's hard to tell without seeing the rest of the game, a model might look fine in blender closeups, and then you import it into the actual game environment and it looks out of place or otherwise just doesn't work
>>744686781>lose a hand in an accident, get bedridden, plop out some kidsjesus fuck I don't know which one is worse lmao>>744686781>maybe even consider a kickstarterwould be cool but the laws of my country are retarded.
