What the fuck happened? How is Splitgate (the first one) down to 14 concurrent players? Shit was so cash a couple years ago, is the new one any good?
Splitgate 2 gave it hero abilities and CoD-tier TTK and had removed most portal surfaces so the portal shooter game had portals as a barely notable side gimmick. Everyone hated it so they shut it down and relaunched as Splitgate Arena Reloaded which ditched the hero abilities and had slightly more focus on portals but still had the extremely short TTK which meant that portals as counterplay was a non-factor and whoever saw the other player first won any engagement. And then they added a battle royale mode, at which point everyone who wanted an arena shooter promptly fucked off.

If you preaim, your internet connection quality or proximity to the server made all the difference.>which meant that portals as counterplay was a non-factorThat's what mindfucked me and made me quit. If you were smart with portal placement, you had the upper hand over people who shot better than you, in a FPS game. Ridiculous. I could just drop a portal opposite a wall and shoot around the corner, surprising people. It's fun for a while until you realize the game is about memorizing portal placements and movement more than actual shooting, at which point you're just steamrolling people who play the game as a FPS, which it is, and end up quitting because they're getting lit up by players who know maps and walls better than they can aim. It's a level of knowledge which can only be achieved when everybody is a newb, so later in the game's life new players have no chance and end up quitting.>at which point everyone who wanted an arena shooter promptly fucked off. Those people fuck off as soon as they get their shit pushed in by way better players with decades of FPS experience. As soon as the population is dwindling, the sweats run off screaming, and new players stand no chance either way. Portals are a cool concept until you're in the game with a dude who knows how to use them, then the game becomes unfun for the rest of players in that match.
>>744564635Shame, I guess I was of the latter group who knew how to use the portals and where the surfaces were. Popping a portal off rip behind the enemy spawn and just genociding their team was so fun
