>Haven't played Wind Waker in ages,
>Want to give it a go again.
>Put it off though because "Ugh, that game is huge. Maybe later."
>"Eh, I would want to, but I remember that ocean is so huge. I don't have the time."
>Finally in the mood and have the time.
>Play it
>"Was the world always...this small?"
>100% the game without even meaning to.
You really can't go home, can you?

I have a hard time believing this. You would definitely have to go out of your way to 100% Wind Waker..

You were smaller when it came out, of course the ocean was bigger.
Windwaker Rewritten was great

>Be retarded 8 year-old.
>Family computer had Myst installed on it.
>Dicked around in that game for hours.
>Constantly get lost all the time.
>Confused as all shit, but always amazed at how big the lands are.
>"This game must go on forever!"
>Fast forward 30 years.
>See Myst on GoG.
>Snap it up.
>"Finally! I'll conquer this game once and for all!"
>Just barely takes up the entirety of a lazy Sunday afternoon.
There has to be a word for this existential feeling.

It's kind of dumb, you just go through all the squares and do a basic mini puzzle for each tile.
WW would have been a masterpiece if it had 2 or 3 islands with the scope of Windfall island at the very least.
Hell, even nowadays no game has truly captured that feel and it's a real bummer outside of Okami, but that's not a sailing game. I wouldn't mind the kiddie combat and puzzles if the game had enough adventure and exploration, with meaningful NPCs and sidequests without going full retard sandbox open world.

i've always thought there wasn't a lot of meat to the overworld outside of the places that are mandatory for beating the game

I used to think Halo CE was a much bigger game per level, kid me thought they were gigantic. Then I played the remake and just breezed through it. Ocarina of Time, you'd think it was vaster than it really was early on, but now it's almost hilarious how utterly lacking of fluff it is overall.
