I get indie games that are, like Deltarune or Look Outside, wholly original entities, but why the fuck did everyone want another mega man? It has five new fangames and romhacks coming out every month that are better than MN9 could ever hope to be.

Xel absorption for buffs, the way numerous stop-and-go encounters are made, the crouch dash the game only tells you about in one spot ever that's more useful than some may realize, etc. It's not bad in playing by the rules it presents.But most people played it like a Mega Man game because they were advertised a Mega Man successor, and what they got was a lack of the usual design, some really questionable and trial-and-error levels and bosses, and a lot of just plain silly bits of things lacking polish entirely. It becomes a better game with Ray, but most people checked out before they even reached Trinity.
