Check out the two Spriggan games Compile made on the PC Engine as well. If you liked Blazing Lasers I think you'd really dig them. On stage 3 for DDP, what are the conditions for the final 2 bees to appear? Do you have to kill the turrets before the 2 thingies in front of the ship? Do the red needle turret need to stay alive while you destroy the other turret on the other side or can you destroy one turret fully, get the bee and do the same on the other turret?
Or is it a time limit thing?

Yes. I switch it out every now and then, but that’s not why I keep dying. I've noticed that I get caught off guard sometimes and can’t react in time. The shots are super fast.
I played story mode with the first character and found pretty much all the levels and bosses really easy, I beat most of them on my first try. But then in Arcade Mode, when I have to play through the whole game, I keep dying here and there because of stupid things without being able to react. The game is easy, but I can’t play it, even though I can play some harder games...
I can't understand this phenomenon...
I think I need to keep playing until I "get" the idea of the game and start racking up lives.

How is Gradius supposed to be played?
Everytime I get the itch to play I start geting my speed powerups, missiles, maybe laser, start getting a lot of options and I feel like a god. But just one tiny mistake takes me back to 0, it feels like shit having to get everything back, specially being so slow.
Last time I got killed on one of those parts you have to shoot to keep going forward but there were also a billion other enemies, I couldn't even shoot fast enough with the default shot to get past the walls.
Is it a game of "never make a mistake" or are there parts you gotta start noticing where you can start making your recovery?
>>
>>744592134
I think Gradius V lets you pick up your Options after death
>>
>>744591719
Truxton is a horrendously bad game where it's mostly downtime and some short points that are very precise to not die at. Extreme is the same. It's paced like this because the game is meant to be looped like 20 times. If that sounds awful that's because.... it is!
>>
>>744592134
You can make mistakes and recover well if you have a good recover route. Salamander 1 and 2 fixes all of that if you don't like checkpoints

I'm trying to copy some of these early routes for scoring, but since the video is so old, is there any better video than this showing a high score?

I feel like Prometheus's routing was more safe even if it's 150M less than this so I might switch to his routing
>>
>>744601709
What are you trying to do exactly
>>
>>744602214
Copying 99% of the chains done for stage 1 to 5 for the first loop
>>
>>744602412
How long have you been playing shmups? Do you have the technical knowledge and execution to do that? What is your target score?
>>
>>744602749
I'll develop the execution along the way, my goal is to know what the route is(for scoring) even if I fail at it and can only reproduce it 1 out of 100 times, so that I can spam going for 1cc and then polish every routing/chaining naturally as I play more, so right now, instead of just playing for survival again, I want to play with a routing for scoring in mind, while technically going for survival runs only

Does that make sense? I don't care for the second loop yet, but I want to do 1-6 with at least 100M and all bees and without losing a life
>>
DDP anon you still have the AFK overlay on
>>
>>744603124
>Does that make sense
You just fabricate a route and execute it. If it's not consistent with what you're capable of, you either need to grind it until it is, or work out something easier. I ask because not only may it be difficult to understand what you're looking at and why it works, but it will also be difficult to do your own troubleshooting. And the people who typically shill ddp here have been unsurprisingly silent.
>at least 100M
That is a lot.
>>
>>744592134
you reset when you die
>>
>>744603124
I'm not too familiar with DDP so other anons can correct me, but routing Loop 1 for score with all bees sounds like it'd be a longer and stricter grind than just getting a survival clear for Loop 2
>>
>>744603124
I thought you just wanted a 1-ALL no miss followed by a 2-ALL. You're going to torture yourself if you want an above average score while you still barely able to clear consistently.
>>
>>744574021
The Gradius, R-Type, and Raiden ships have always looked so damn cool to me.
>>
>>744603621
My goal is not to go for 2-All as fast as possible, but to learn how to route and perfect my loop 1 each time I go for 2-All, so I want to first learn 1-All as well as I can and have a "clear" route in mind for every time I attempt a 1-All No Miss and later on a 2-All 1cc
>>744603440
Yeah but if possible I want to practice a route that already work, while modifying it slightly to make it easier on me by dropping a few digits of chaining (which is what I'm already doing for stage 2)
>>744604027
I want that, but I don't want to just headbut for 2-All and make the game boring on me by not learning chaining properly since I do love DDP and I want to play it as intended since it makes every reset fun, if playing for survival only I'm going to really get bored and I could just play any other shmup but I choose DDP because the combo system reminds me of other games I enjoy

Jumping straight to superplayer tier scoring runs after a shitty clear doesn't sound very optimal. Well, I guess there's not much I can argue if you are having "fun". Just don't expect fast results, try to at least respect the pacing and maybe you can get a full run going two or three months from now.
>>
>>744605065
I'm not talking about superplayer tier scoring and I 'm not expecting fast results either, I don't see it as torture and 2 months for a 2-All would be way too quick knowing it took some people like a year
>>
>>744605279
>and 2 months for a 2-All would be way too quick knowing it took some people like a year
I'm mostly talking about 1-all scoring, since thats how long it took me to get 1-all 600m in DOJBL after getting into scoring runs. I didn't bother with 1-all scoring+2-all in the same run though.
>>
>>744606020
Well, I'm fine with that, and I'm not saying "I will do this" but "I'm working towards that goal" and whatever happens, happens
Just going for a 2-All for the sake of it while I ignore 90% of how the game is supposed to be played would be unfun,
I do think fun is important here,, because then anything I would be doing would be actual torture instead of me enjoying myself
>>
>>744606168
If you want to continue playing ddp I would suggest working on a route where you don't eat shit on the first loop before you think of doing anything else first. If that doesnt sound enticing you can play something else, PEG says the key to getting good is to play a lot of different shmups. Perhaps when you learn more, and build more tolerance, doing this won't be so intimidating.

>>744606951

>>
>>744614183
Might be worth looking at. Formation does still have some interesting uses there, plus you can set it and drop it which is kind of interesting. Pretty much all of the bosses can be milked and there's a fuckton of stage destruction, both to collect medals and due to pointblanking with charge shot adding another layer of optimization. Dunno if I like it as much as Garegga but they are pretty similiar overall, moreso than the final bat game anyways.
>>
>>744614409
>Might be worth looking at.
Maybe at some point in the future. For now I'm keep an eye on the MMP/PS port. Hopefully no input lag.

>>
>>744615460
The 360 version is good because it makes some small and welcome adjustments to MMP while adjusting PS in two different ways, both of which I see as massive improvements but the input lag needs to be cut down a little in this new port
>>
>>744615460

Yeah I'm waiting on that too, trying to fill these next 2 months with something that isn't overly ambitious. Depending on how things go I might start learning it before the game releases, but it's too early to start now.

NTA, I've been looking into IKBL since it's really niche and I want to see what it's all about. Doubt I will 1CC it but I want to at least know a basic route.

How fast and how dense are the patterns in Psikyo games? Compare it to something like Mushihimesama Original as a base? I don't mind having to memo hard and know when to tap dodge and such, but what I hate is when the patterns are dense AND fast and it becomes an execution check on top of it. Something like machine gun funnel spray patterns with a bunch of aimed bullets you have to LeftRightLeftRightLeftRight micro inside of it I would hate but I wouldn't mind if it's just simple open spread shot waves.

Today I played again and made it to level 7 (I died on the boss because I didn't even know how he worked). I think I realized my mistake in the game, I was focusing too much on "micro dodging" by using the slow-down button, but since the ship is super fast, the screen is super wide, and the white shots follow the enemies, it's much better to focus on "macro dodging". I also started using the bombs without hesitation.
The result:
Levels 1 through 3: They're okay
Levels 4 and 5: They're extremely easy compared to the first two, so that's 20 fucking minutes wasted for nothing. Not even the scoring tricks are interesting in those levels
Level 6: It gets more challenging again
Level 7: Easy and uninspired, just like levels 4 and 5
Level 8: ???

The game is way too long, and there are a lot of parts that aren't interesting. But the game is still engaging for some reason. I think the "macro dodging" on an ultra-wide screen makes it fun.

This works great! I just need to change it a bit since I use WASD + Numpad to play but this helped a ton
I guess mini padder is (obviously) only for pad so I can't make it work for what I want
