>he isn't gaming on linux
>>
I have an RTX 4060M and an RTX 5080. The last time I tried Linux, it didn't work out for me, and some games didn't perform as they should. I only use Linux (Mint) on an old mini PC in the living room and my Steam Deck(Steam os), which are my two best Linux experiences so far. When I upgrade my laptop and desktop PC to go full AMD, I'll switch

Since there is no economic incentive to ensure that Linux distros work properly and neither maintenance or longevity is ensured, using it for anything but hobby projects is just too risky and ultimately pointless

>>
>>744575557
I've got a new 5080 laptop and it's bad, really bad, I used to have a 4080 laptop I sold and it didn't give me nearly as many problems as this one, but I always ran it on dgpu mode, in this one, the fucking Nvidia drivers always kernel panic when I shut down the laptop, which is a recurring issue in the official drivers for the past several versions, same shit with booting up and showing a black screen or kernel panicking for no reason.
Amd drivers have gone bad too on Linux over the past couple of years, but holy fucking shit I don't have literally any issues with my amd desktop nor another laptop I have besides needing a kernel parameter for a bug.

You can't reliably do work OR gaming on an OS that might not be there a week from now because a couple of hobbyists get bored.

With "fine" I mean all my game works, have decent performance and weren't too hard to install. From the latest benchmarks you should get similar or better performance on Nvidia in DX11 games and lower performance on DX12 games, giving that they're GPU bound. You don't need to reinstall Linux if you're about to plug your SSD on other platform. You can easily put drive that was in Intel+NVIDIA PC to AMD+AMD PC, and it would load just fine and won't even notice the difference. The only problems you might experience is you plug Nvidia card into a new system without installing drivers first.

They're not going to rework its fundamental design decisions
What makes it good on the deck is what makes it bad for a desktop
Its focus on stability and retardproofing comes at the cost of not being in complete control over the core of the OS
It's already out and despite that its share on the survey has actually gone down

Meanwhile something like CachyOS that's essentially just arch but with better defaults and easy start and configuration has risen to being the most popular distro that people actually install since all that SteamOS is just decks

I hate to be a fearmonger but someone has to say it.

I was a riced Windows user, and the OS is a ticking bomb.

Had Chris Titus scrip, ShutUp10, StartAllBack, delayed updates, debloated (only essential UWP dependencies), LTSC Win 10 (later on Win 11).

And... I got hacked. Saw a copy dialog (to a remote access software install location). Thankfully I just unplugged the thing, turned it off, made a backup, moved to Linux and didn't looked back.

I do tech support, this month I saw a PC with the latest version of W11 erase all files (user folder) and installed software by a an infected USB stick (not hide, delete), also saw two SSD killed by Windows updates last year..

If it works for you good, but make backups of you date and use 2FA for everything.
>>
>>744614495
It was a ticking time bomb since they cut down windows 7 while it had majority marketshare

cachyos is basically just arch with a better install script with sane defaults and more packages you actually want in their official repos I really recommend it.

Just pirate the windows games and run them as normal. You need some gay shit to run the isos, but thats about it
>>
>>744636513
I just download shitgirl releases and shove them into HGG. They just werk for the most part.

the hypervisor cracks work on linux, it just doesn't reach into the kernel
>>
>>744636641
>the only reason to use it is to pirate denuvo shit without hypervisor cracks
Nice bait
>>
>>744636641
Why would you need linux for that, lmao.
You need linux for the hyoervisor memes, unless you wanna rape your windows protection
>>
>>744634083
This but w11 LTSC IoT
better than w10 in every way
>>
>>744636935
exactly which is why you use the cracked linux release that doesnt have denuvo or hyperv
godlberg/linuxrulez releases were what I used before the retard quit because his shit was hidden on an obscure private tracker and no one knew about him
not installing arch just so I can use jc141 releases
>>
>>744637104
>which is why you use the cracked linux release that doesnt have denuvo or hyperv
So what you're saying is that you're not able to pirate and play those games because codex and hiv doesn't run on linux?
>>
>>744637272
no? im not able to pirate and play those games because one guy cracking them on linux retired and the other goes out of his way to make sure his releases dont work on ubuntu

>>

If it works for you that's fine
But it won't work for everyone
>>
>>744638201
seems like it working for everyone else too, if you are too retard to use it dont use it
>>
>>744636513
Most people just run the windows builds. If you wanted to play pirated games it's just getting the right dependencies and runtimes working.

Native Linux games do exist but they are so few nobody really uses them. Some notable ones are borderlands 2, kerbal space program, alien isolation, don't starve.

Most people use umu and this works and is designed for proton GE to function and use steam runtimes aka all the shit you need like dlls, redist, directx, physx. For example some games like the original metro 2033 won't run without physx or the audio will be broken that's why people use heroic or launch custom games on steam if they want to play pirated so it has access to that.

You'd have the same bug on windows if you didn't have it installed because Linux isn't emulating it's running the game just like on windows no difference just though vulkan translating instead of directx natively via dxvk for dx 9,10,11 and vkd3d for dx12
>>
>>744638416
Is umu better than lutrix?
How so
>>
>>744575403
True, you're not gaming if its on Linux
>>
>>744588052
Either works, but I prefer Cachy (KDE) by a vast margin.

NTA but it's integrated into lutris now, umu is just a launcher that's also used for fetching the latest steamrt, proton-ge and game fixes if necessary. You can use it standalone too (faugus if you want a GUI, umu-launcher if you don't)
>>

Ah, my bad, I didnt know I was interacting with a smoothbrained retard

I have Krita Gimp and Photoshop installled
Photoshop mogs, I only use krita to do AI offline shit and Gimp to convert xcf files

Modern denuvo hypervisor bypass cracks are working on Linux, retard, and you don't even need to install kernel module like wincucks if you have intel or amd zen4+. You only need to apply kernel parameter and use patched proton build.
>>
>>744641403
nta but no sane person uses the hypervisor bypass, so that whole point is stupid
>>
>>744631029
um, sovl? reminds me of winxp

True. Krita is way better.

it's 2026, you need frequent security updates. You can't really turn off Windows 11 bloat by installing custom roms like tiny11 and have good security too.
Only do this if the only thing you do on your Windows is gaming.

If you don't understand what the PKGBUILD does and verify that it points to the right repo, then don't use it. If you do use it, use a helper which shows you a diff for every update. You should really only use the AUR if you REALLY need -git cutting edge software or legacy gpu drivers. Otherwise you're probably better off with flatpacks

>>744617315
That and Blender for video editing, color grading, special effects, etc.
I just wish Krita had better text tools, but using Inkscape for text is relatively painless.
>>
>>744648893
and what if i want to use stuff that's only on the aur and nowhere else?
am i just supposed to figure out how to build it myself and waste my fucking time doing shit that takes enough skill that i should be getting paid for it?
>>
>>744648893
mpv is garbage
it has no UI because the developers are autistic trannies
mpchc and smplayer are superior and actually have UI

>I want to do this niche power user thing on a distro aimed at Linux power users and experts

Yeah.
I know that all the funny Windows tourists like to use CachyOS for the "I use Arch BTW" meme, but Arch is not actually intended for newbs. It's a sub optimal choice.
