After a flop of this caliber, how much longer can Bungie go on without getting closed? It has to be near, isn't it?
>>
>Sony will close their own studio that they blew 4 billion dollars buying
Except. They won't. They will simply asset strip it.
>>
>>744578718
It has no assets. Destiny and marathon are worthless IPs and anyone competent at bungie left decades ago
>>
>>744577678
season 3 starts on september 22nd so not until then at least
>>
>>744579150
Will S3 be the last one? There's no way this shit is even paying for server costs.
>>
>>744577678
Two more weeks
>>
>>744578821
Err destiny is the reason they were worth 4 billion dollar you delusional chud
>>
>>744577678
They stopped development on Destiny for this shit

It ends whenever Sony says it's over.

I think they go until the next game awards, try to pick up a GOTY or mobile GOTY win and hope that boosts them. it won't.

>>744580580
LOL. They're minus 2 digit millions a month.

This isn't getting nominated for shit lol

Destiny is dead and there will never be another destiny game
>>
>>744581565
With sony dollars and the amount the press loves bungie, I wouldn't count them out competley on nominations.

But I'm sure it won't matter. More importanly, Sony is delulu enough to think they can get one.
>>
Why can't the industry figure out a good formula for extraction slop? they all seem to be dying. They got it fast for battle royales, you have nearly a decade long games still going strong
>>
>>744582428
Fromsoft and Miyazaki are about to save the genre.
>>
>>744581565
If actual quality mattered for nominations then you might have a point.
>>
>>744582428
There's nothing to figure out. It's inherently a high stress genre, and that's going to make it forever niche. The type of people who will want to play it for more than a few matches in one sitting are few and far between. If you remove the risk of loss or penalize PvP too heavily it'll just turn into a match-based looter game.
>>
>>744582428
>play game
>progress
>some sweaty nerd kills you and takes all your stuff l
It's a game mode inherently prone to sweaty behavior. It's not like battle royale where the same basic premise can happen, but your investment into all your stuff you collected is a lot less because it takes a lot less effort for you to have collected it. In say fortnight, you can get a really good gun by just running around and you find it on the ground. In a lot of these other games you grind for hours in some gremlin dungeon to get halfway decent gear and then it gets stolen from you by some faggot. It's just not a good gameplay loop
>>
>>744582428
It's a genre made for streamers so they can have epic "OMG HE LOST EVERYTHING" moments. It's also a genre that completely cannibalizes every waking moment you have so you can stay on top, and then there's the fact you are incentivized to NOT use your upgrades because you may lose them.
I have no idea how the genre got popular to begin with. It's ass.

Numbers?
>>
>>744582957
>>744583019
They could add some sort of "second chance" mechanic like the gulag in Warzone. Like if you win against another player that died you could get some sort of reward or just get re-deployed to try and get your shit back
>>
>>744583564
Tarkov got big during Covid, then streamers created an illusion that the genre was organically popular under normal circumstances. Incremental almost roguelite seasonal progress is antithetical to a game that wants to be competitive. I could see an extraction game being popular, but I think it may have to embrace absurd imbalance and take a very non-serious casual approach to the genre.

Stop making extraction games as shooters. Shooters are inherently fast genres filled with "oh what bullshit I got killed from across the map I didnt even see that guy".

Absolutely fine in deathmatch type games, your quake clones your hero shooters your cod and cs clones etc. You pop back up and go again. The genre is built off of "I got him but I have an immediate chance to get mine back"

Thats why the revenge and rival system in TF2 was so funny.

But not ok in a genre built to have death be so god damn punishing because its so frequent.

Extraction should be paired with a gameplay style where combat is slower and more limited, ala fromslop or zelda or what have you. A Third person RPG style of game. Where 90% of your time should be fighting PVE enemies. They should be the legitimate target and challenge. And you pre-game them by planning your excursions and who you're targetting based on what gear you have and who you can take down. Encountering other players should be incidents of carefully avoiding them and fighting them should be akin to an emergent gameplay boss fight.

yup, they might push all the way for best art direction award
>>
>>744581265
They stopped development on Destiny because nobody played it
>>
Development of destiny was so ass backwards that the fact it lasted as long as it did says more about how much shit gamers will eat than anything else.
>>
>>744577678
Given they've fired the whole Destiny team I'm genuinely not sure what they're going to do. Are they really just going to bleed money keeping marathon on life support? They're in such an awkward spot now, maybe there is some accounting reason to just let them wither away. From a PR perspective, sure EOS'ing marathon anytime soon would look awful, but randomly ending Destiny 2 already pissed everyone off anyways. They need to rehire to do anything good, but there's no way Sony will allow that so the only thing I can think of is making them into a support studio.
>>
>>744581565
It might get nominated for music or art direction. I know you'll scoff at the latter, but the music is really good, as well as the rest of the sound design.

this RAPE has to be studied
>>
There's nothing to fix. It's a very good game. Players are just bad and fall for propaganda by Destiny fans mad their ancient 10+ year game is dead
>>
Reminder to all chuds and chud-adjacent trannoids who doubted this game: Marathon did not flop, it's been five months and it got out of the gate. If it fails now it's because the updates were shit and they listened to PvE Andies instead of the actual playerbase.
>>
>>744589538
It would also be because the game wasn't good enough from the get go.
