Thoughts?
>>744579315it's just a marketing thing and bait for people outside of the game to talk about it, not much to say
>>744579315I would be curious to see exactly what percentage of players achieved higher average DPS with this
Presumably the mounting 0.2 second cost will make Mythic clears impossible.
>>744579510Apparently it gives you 85% of optimal DPS, so I assume it's an upgrade for well over half the playerbase.
>>744579315Why even play the game at this point? Might as well let a bot take over for you
>>744579595>Apparently it gives you 85% of optimal DPSfor the couple of specs that it works with
Literally.
>>744579697It's just automating segments of the game that's already braindead easy, with a simple enough rotation to cycle through.
>>744579510It's been in game since at least legion remix. Does around 20% less DPS overall compared to not using it, but out dpses the playerbase by over 80%.
>>744579786To me it sounds the same as gachafags asking for a skip button for story content. If your game has tedious braindead content you would rather skip/automate than play just go play something else
>>744579315Are WoW devs too retarded to call it a macro anymore?
>>744579315>mouse scroll rotation (le steady shot) macro in TBC GOOD>mouse scroll rotation macro in retail BAD
>>744579315Hasn't making macros been a thing since vanilla?
>>744579786>y-yeah this part of the game is braindead easy and not worth my time>that's why i use mods to automate it away as much as possiblei hear this cope from people using button condensers in ff14 all the time. If they were honest, they would admit that hitting different buttons adds a non-trivial amount of difficulty that prevents from truly playing comfortably.
>>744579315Objectively, this can only be a good thing. If you are new or treat the game as a hangout spot with your friends, it helps you get up to par. If you are mid tier gamer, you can do parts of your rotation manually and turn it on for trivial content or when learning the mechanics that otherwise absorb your attention. If your aspirations are higher, it's the floor to beat with your pro gamer skills. Macros were a huge part of the game since TBC either way. The only issue with it is, why would anyone play modern wow?
>>744579768I mean that’s literally who is playing world of warcraft in 2026, old ass uncs waiting for a Mount to drop or their bis trinket or whatever the fuck, it’s all casino slop
>>744579315good for people who only have 1 fingerif you only have 1 finger i suggest you use the single-button asssistant
>>744580843Nah hitting multiple buttons is also trivially easy. Users of this don't respect themselves. That's the real reason. They make it sound insurmountable or what to eliminate the chance of failure but in doing so they've failed themselves. Total lack of self esteem
>>744580936thank you i only have 1 fingeri will use the single-button asssistant on your advice
>>744579595That was with affliction lock (for obvious reasons) so it was the exception not the rule. And I they nerfed it in some way if I remember right lol.For most classes the thing works like shit or the class has a burst window so the GDC penalty completely tanks the output. Also those numbers are from TWW when the kits were a bit more complex which benefitted automation greatly. Using it now when most classes have zero rotational depth is a bit silly but I guess the average player probably would benefit from it.I use it when leveling alts, its perfect for that.
it's a braindead game where you press a the same sequence of buttons without thought so why not remove the fake complexity and come up with something more engaging
I think it's bad, but also (I think - I couldn't even name the post-Shadowlands expansions, I'm basing this off vibes, subbing in for a few months during BFA to do Firelands through BFA quests, as well as some play on MoP pservers and now Tauri Legion) neo-WoW actually has a problem with specs being "too skillful", and I'm guessing this is some kind of badaid solution to that "problem"?See, if you take a seemingly complicated spec like enhancement shaman in Wrath, there's a lot of buttons and as a haste-stacking spec it gets GCD down to a second, but crucially, the buttons are "roughly as valuable": other than keeping lightning shield and totem refresh down (because otherwise they'd be the only abilities used), a *reverse* priority queue yields something like 90% of simmed DPS, and realistically even awful players do better than reverse priorities (what actually differentiates players is things like minimizing movement to maximize DPS uptime: Wrath enhancement is actually particularly punished here because it's the squishiest spec, lacks mobility abilities, is melee, and as such has to do mechanics properly instead of just pressing AMS, and magma totem punishes movement but at the same time also rewards forward-planning). Not so in neo-WoW: I'm sure there's some variation between specs, but as a general rule most of the damage comes from lining up medium length cooldowns (particularly, to burst windows dictated by fight mechanics) and if you fuck that up, your DPS isn't reduced by 10% but halved or worse, possibly even worse for "effective DPS" (that actually helps you at beating the encounter rather than just meters).
>>744582043And that's bad in two major ways and several minor ones on top. First, while I think it's fun when you get as much soul shards (say) as you can spend and get to use every GCD for your spender and pop off, I think the higher highs don't compensate for lower lows and it feels anti-fun. Second, and this is where the skill thing comes in: elite and non-elite players play in different worlds. Blizzlike tuning is of course trivial by contemporary standards as even casuals are absorbing best practices through cultural osmosis, but if you think of content like T5 end bosses, they could filter guilds, but not forever: if bads are getting 80% of best play and a fight requires 90%, there is still room for better gear (from farming the easier T5 bosses, ZA, getting a couple of extra DSTs from T4, maybe even farming 4/5 Hyjal 9/11 BT, as the gear from Kael and Vashj would still be relevant, unlike neo-WoW where each new tier directly obsoletes the previous ones) to cover the difference. Not so if players with parity gear can differ by 100% or more. The solution here becomes unfailable faceroll artificial difficulty setting (LFR) and now suddenly even, or especially, casuals start suffering from content droughts... Then throw in the minor issues, like exactly lining up abilities kinda-sorta requiring addons/weakauras that show how to exactly line them up, the planned obsolescence model of itemization that this design ties with, encounter design forcing class design and vice versa (for example, if fights are designed around burst windows, then it starts to step on the toes of a class fantasy like affliction warlock), and so on. That "play the game for you" button even appears as something to consider, I think, is a sign of deeper problems.
