>fix one bottle-neck>another bottle-neck appears out of nowherethis is fun to you?
>>744604017integer factorization is fun yes and its the same reason most rpgs are fun.
>>744604017The game is just incredibly boring when you reach space. The space platform shit is ok I guess, Vulcanus is mind numbingly easy and so is Fulgora, Gleba is somewhat challenging but tedious to actually get set up and Aquilo much the same. The whole space thing doesn't really work, I preferred expanding one factory on one planet dealing with one enemy race
>>744604017>shoot one enemy>another enemy appearsthis is fun to you?
>catch pokemon>another one appears this is fun to you?
>>744604983>I preferred expanding one factory on one planet dealing with one enemy raceyou still do this
>>744604017>learn ratios>design everything from basic parts to finished products for each product>no more bottlenecks
>>744605695>>learn ratiosOP is still in pre school
>>744607076anon is still on reddit
>>744607193this isnt reddit though
>>744605695>learn ratiosnobody does this. you put down blocks of production until it's enough.
>>744607729There are some ratios you should learn, like 3:2 copper wire to green chips so that you can direct-insert the wire instead of putting it on a belt. But yeah in general you're right, you don't need ratios if you build things in organized assembly lines that you can just scale as needed
>>744604017yes
>>744611373me when i need to build train tracks but end up on the outer edges of the solar system automating the construction of fusion reactors
>>744604017Correct, but that is only because I don't set up my base based on balanced inputs. So I just run around fixing bottlenecks.
>create your first automation>scale up for the first time, make use of entire ore patches>biters constantly annoy you>you either bite the bullet right now and spend the next few hours completely wiping out all nearby nests AND create a very large security parameter by putting a couple of turrets at every single choke point (if you are lucky and have a lot of those)>if you don't do it properly now, you will have to do it later and you better clear a large enough of an area or your gameplay loop is constantly interrupted with biter bullshitThey really should have thought of a better way to do this.
i play this game purely because i find it fun, i dont really know what im doing half the time but and when i struggle i ask chatgpt or bruteforce my way into solving a problemi do however have a friend that's an actual engineer and berates me for playing this over satisfactory but i ask him what's better about it and he can never really answer
>>744605340there's a reason why pokemon is a kid's game
>>744613838he just wants you to play with him
>>744613838I have a friend that's an actual engineer too and he says he hates these factory games because it makes him feel like he's still at work
>>744613838He probably finds Satisfactory more gamey and Factorio probably reminds him too much of work
>>744604017>out of nowherepebkac
>>744604017just got back into it after droping when space age came out after some life stuff happaned i can see why people get addicted to it game is hela fun to problem solve your own mistakes i will not learn ration btw
>>744616409i've never seen such a perfectly designed factory. there are no mistakes to fix
>>744605695>learn ratiosnohttps://kirkmcdonald.github.io/calc.html
>>744616483>surely my mental retardation will not catch up to medon't worry is just my starter base
>>744610687>There are some ratios you should learn, like 3:2 copper wire to green chips so that you can direct-insert the wireEven that becomes obsolete the moment you unlock foundries. It can shit out copper wires at such a fast rate that there really is no advantage to having assemblers craft them individually.
I play with beavers instead which are fucking retarded and can't built in an order that won't get themselves trapped
>started playing it again today>again I deleted my old save and started over without ever finishing the gameI have 200 hours in itsend helpalso ofcourse it started in fucking desert, I barerly started steel smelting and I allready have soviet tier biter waves attacking my base>>744616409pure unfiltered soul, never change
>>744613641>a better way to do thishave one or two assemblers leeching off of your red and green circuits to make efficiency modules and it's (generally) very easy to just use a tank to clear them out of your minimized brap cloud while you're scaling up. If you want to really cheap out on defense you can just have a bare wall with some solar powered radars (it's just about the only actually useful thing I've found to do with solar) watching it to let you know when an expansion party breaks through so you can occasionally go and squish some bugs while thinking of what to build next.I think the "ticking clock" of nest expansion and evolution factor makes people stress over biters a bit too much when on default settings they're basically just a way of making you manufacture and expend military resources for more space. By the time you've produced enough pollution and murder to get to the real chunky nests and behemoth biters you should, by design, be able to deal with it just fine.
I came back from a very long break, and I have now properly setup my oil refining, and I have made all of my mining outposts automatically repair and resupply ammo. This was a bit daunting because I needed to learn a few new systems, but I no longer need clear out biters and keep them at bay. And now I am at a very exciting stage where I get to decide on my next project, and here are the options that immediately come to mind:Setup nuclear power, I have still haven't mined uranium at allSolve my iron and copper plate problem. If these get hogged by my early assembly line then all of my latest projects get starved. I need to increase copper and iron plate production and maybe even route it directly to my latest projects, but that seems disorganized, maybe logistic robots are the way to solve this.Setup some new mines (iron and copper) so I don't have to worry about it in any forseeable future. Also lets me build a tank and try it out against biters.Start working towards space (and space science packs)I am also open to any other ideas.
>he loots the ship
>>744617937I fill my ship with stones I got from the coal rocks. I don't build chests, until I get steel chests.
>>744618152>I don't build chests, until I get steel chestsBased autism (I do this too)
>>744618359>>744618152faggots. i love chests
>>744617807>I need to increase copper and iron plate production and maybe even route it directly to my latest projects, but that seems disorganizedNo, trust me, the later sciences are going to fucktuple your demand for resources and making a bunch of production for that specific demand will be far simpler than trying to keep everything elegant and balanced until your base goes into full production and runs out of buffer material and you realize how much more you actually need. Of course you can play however you want but I find that it's really easy to overthink problems like that for hours when it takes minutes to slap more miners/smelters/whatever elsewhere and train or belt it in. You suddenly need so much more shit that it feels like some kind of puzzle you need to somehow design your way around but no, you actually just need that much more shit coming in.
>>744614054I generally only have mojo left over for factorio if I have an easy day at work
>>744604017Yes
>>744617937The ship is materials that you can leverage into growing the factory quicker. One must let go of attachment to material realm to achieve max efficiency.
>>744604017>Need to make ten frumpynodes and combine that with forty gloombium and fifteen niggerite and combine that with-Why do people find survival games fun again?
>>744619485The ship is not materials, the ship contains materialMaximum efficiency is ctrl picking the stuff inside and not wasting the time it takes to mine out the ship and building elsewhereOr even more, use it as a massive chest with a lot of tile coverage to communicate a lot of assemblers at the same time
>>744618941Thanks for tip! I'll get that out of the way before I get started on anything else
>>744616486>This website should be a mod>oh hey people say this is a mod>Helmod>least intuitive mod on the face of the Earth>go back to the websitejfc I had to relearn the mod UI three times and it's still annoying.
seems like someone cannot into planninggb2 ball and gun games
how many of you have gotten there is no spoon?
>>744617807Have you ever heard of our lord and savior?Dont know out trains, they teach you to decentralize stuff, and it is infinitely practical being able to just summon a train dropping the most common resources into place rather than doing backflips trying to route belts with materials into some other sectionsPutting green chips (red chips too but that is a big commitment) into trains among other not so basic but commonly used resources like plastic, steel or engines helps a lot and let you put into perspective what's the actual part of your production chain that is lacking, plus having a full station not producing with no place to ship contents to is far better than not having materials available to anyone requesting them
>>744604017>man I keep having to fix bottlenecks>if only I could figure out some way to optimize the fixing of bottleneckscongratulations, you have reached level 2 of factorio brain.
>>744623262yeah I dunno why all the mods for that are so unintuitivepeople wanna be able to drag nodes around on a UI to make a flowchart, its a lesson we've learned again and again it's not a great solution but it's the best we have.
>>744613641>spend the next few hours completely wiping out all nearby nestsdon't do this, it skyrockets their evolutionyou're literally better off just quarantining them in isolated perimeters
>>744620712try get into the decentralized mindset, the "core" of your base is not your starting point, it's (you), it's even easier to understand this once you REALLY learn to use bot networkswhenever you walk to is the new main base, and with trans even abandoning bases and evacuating is fairly simple
>>744613641>biters constantly annoy youThat only happens when you've hit them with pollution
>>744624110>chitin hands typed this Total bug death.

>>744627240There's console commands for both turning biters off completely and just turning off their expansion
>>744604983I pirated the space age cashgrab DLC to try it, it was boring as fuck so I never bought it. My steam copy of factorio is vanilla only.

>>744626463The achievements in game are fucking retardedThey can just turn off one day. I did the no logistics and lazy bastard challenge both in one and it went back on its word saying I didn't beat it when steam says I did and I even got the achievement in game but the game is purist elitist homosexual so it said no one day.
>fire up Factorio after getting home from work>sip on a nice refreshing vodka and mountain dew>5 hours later>several drinks had>the factory mostly technically functions>pass out>next day do wageslave routine>get home>load game>now have custom scenario to unfuck the factory from the clusterfuck you made last nightFactorio with booze is great

>>744604017Every puzzle you need to solve is a puzzle you made two hours ago by being really dumb.
>>744613641This is part of the fun of the game. Having to balance different needs with the threat of some pushback. If you have flamethrower turrets they stop being an issue for a while. Once you have artillery they are never an issue again
