I've been somewhat interested in it but any time I tried the Pokemon ones I ended up bouncing off them, haven't had a chance to play Chocobo or Torneko's, how different is Shiren from those?

They're much harder and have the whole traditional roguelike "reset you to level 1 and lose all of your items" thing from the start instead of saving it for the postgame, though the main story dungeons usually have some sort of meta-progression to help you like unlocking party members.
