128 GB thumb drives are still very affordable, there's no need for SSDs for gaming.

>>744614461
almost as fast as a 5400rpm laptop hdd from 2008
>>
>>744614461
They tripled in price.
>>
>>744614461
I hate that they do things very differently and for a full OS this isn't true, but that you are very technically right because Batocera and others.
>>
i saw some retarded faggot doing this whole
>heh...sony is gonna kill physical? well...i am making my own physical steam collection so the medium never dies! :)
and it was 64+ GB AAA games shoved on these slow pieces of shit. People are fucking dumb.
>>
>>744618123
This, wtf happened? It was before the ai sloppening too
>>
>>744618582
I saw a separate one do it with cheap ssd's. They looked like cartridges
>>
>>744614461
>game takes 5 fucking minutes to load
nice storage medium, saar
>>
>>744618582
The trend that puts even more pressure on hardware shortages. Steam and PC have not been an issue for this, but the last 3 console generations all have shit at risk of disappearing. Its so dumb.

AI. Even when its not AI its the new excuse to produce less and charge more. Welcome to unchecked capitalism. I hate it here.

Technically you CAN make fast-loading USB drives work, but only if you get a bunch of them into a RAID array and at that point it's way more expensive per gigabyte than SSDs
>>
>>744618859
No they went up in price even before covid. Same with micro sd cards. I hadn't bought one in acouple of years and they were suddenly triple the price

CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER
>>
>>744614461
Even 3.2 Gen 2 is nowhere near as fast as a NVMe, and Directstorage isn't supported.
>>
>>744619175
these are not thumb drives, 128gb Kingston stick is 13 yuros in my local store
>>
>>744619276
Thumbies suck.
>>
These things are not designed for constant use like that. It would die in a year or less.
>>
these never work out for me because I can't resist the urge to fill them with 128gb worth of pictures of dicks and then jam them up my ass
>>
so usbs are not good for storage like sdd drives due to degradation from use?
>>
>>744619531
SSD drives shouldn't be used as long term storage either
>>
>>744619345
Entire OS are built to run on them. Used one as a server drive for years. 3 and up is fast enough but its not NVMe for sure or meant for a lot of read/write daily changes.
>>
>>744619595
ah shit, my folders
>>
>melts from playing games for 8 hours a day
