I don't get how people enjoy games on easy mode. If a game doesn't offer some challenge it's just not fun.

Why would I care about a game when it requires no resolve or skill from me?
>muh story
Read a fucking book
>>
people actually watch this blue tinted grey streamingslop?
>>
>>744619356
There's a fine line between enjoying a challenge, and getting so annoyed by the difficulty that it actively starts making you hate the game. Most people don't want to deal with that.
>>
>>744619459
Unfortunately.

>>744619356
I agree, I don't get the obsession with 2hard4u ballbusting bullshit but when something is way too easy it's just boring to play.
>muh story
As if you can't enjoy a story and a game at the same time. I remember when Deus Ex HR came out and I got pissed at the description for the easy mode saying you enjoy a good story like they are mutually exclusive.
>>
>>744619547
Thing is, a video game can give you both because it's interactive. You can enjoy a story but if you play ONLY for the story why play a video game when there are other mediums that offer better narratives
>>
>>744619356
Challenge is fun but it's not the only thing that's fun. Getting immersed in a world is fun, roleplaying is fun, just basic gameplay interactions can be fun. Lots of stuff can be fun without necessarily being challenging.
I mean if I can choose difficulty, then I usually do pick a harder difficulty. But an easy game can still be fun, challenge really isn't the end-all-be-all of game design, I think that mentality is as short sighted as people who avoid challenge altogether.

lmfao

For some people Easy mode is hard. Like some people genuinely lack the fine motor control and decision-making skills to play at a normal difficulty, so they need baby mode so they don't feel like they're running up against a brick wall
>>
>>744619637
I mean it's not always just about the quality of the narrative, but also the way you experience the narrative. sometimes a narrative is elevated and is more immersive by the fact that you can actually interact with it in a video game.
at the end of the day, why does it even effect you. there are so many games out there of different kinds, if people want to play a story game, who cares.

This happened to me in Crow Country recently. Early on you come across several digits smeared on the ground in blood. Since it's a survival horror game where you need codes for keypads, your natural instinct as a gamer™ is to assume this is a code or part of a puzzle. Spoiler: it's not, it's a date, and central to the revelation of what the Guests actually are. In any other medium you couldn't execute this the same way, the narrative is complimented by the player controlling it. Same thing with some subtle in game hints that (spoiler) Maya is not who she claims to be - she says "I'm not allowed to smoke" when you investigate a cigarette machine, she looks for a name that doesn't start with M if you examine some armbands with names on them, you can find the box of hair dye she obviously used recently in her car's trunk, she's visibly smaller than adults you encounter etc.
>why does it even effect you
Because it's fucking annoying seeing other people say wrong and ignorant shit about your hobby goddamnit.

Why do you care that I care? You're voicing an opinion about what someone is doing (me) and I'm voicing an opinion about someone else is doing. Responding to an opinion with "who cares" is idiotic because the answer is "you care". I'm not doing anymore caring than you are right now

What recent games have easy mode?

Dunk and Egg show was actually comfy as fuck and had a simple plot. No fucking about elsewhere, just following Dunk.

Now theyve ruined it even more so with negro castings etc for season 2.

A game that's too easy is boring, but a game that's too hard is frustrating.
>>
What game has the perfect difficulty? Obviously it varies but it has to be a game with difficulty surrounding its various mechanics so it’s not dependent on a single certain mechanic while having a good rise while also throwing some curve balls so everyone involved can have a challenging experience in some way.

Is there even an answer to this? Everyone has higher tolerances for difficulty and frustration. I like it when a game is really brutally hard sometimes, like games where if you die you can lose tons of progress so the stakes are high. But I also don't much care for games that have no respect for your time or effort like trolls games like "Getting Over it"

Seven Kingdoms pissed me off so much. It sucks because after the disaster of post season 4 GOT and skipping HOTD, I genuinely had a bit of hope it was going to be a good adaptation. My fucking mistake.

A lot of people just play games to relax and don't care about the social aspect. I play FF14, and in that game a massive percentage of the playerbase (more than half) doesn't engage with the more challenging content at all. They just want to log on, faceroll through a dungeon that's impossible to fail, do some social stuff, and that's it.

*don't care about the challenge aspect

>>744621617
I really liked it though. What did you think was wrong with it?
>>
>>744619356
i enjoy both a challenge and a good story
unfortunately slop nowadays only gives one of the two
fucking zoomoids

Cutting book content (such as the line "A knight how who remembered his vows", how the FUCK do you adapt Dunk and Egg and leave this out?) in favour of shitty OC dialogue that doesn't fit into the style of the world. Some characters are completely flanderized, i.e. Lyonel Baratheon. Also you can't forget the piss, shit, cock, fart jokes because they're in every episode. And of course, the obligatory browns including that love interest in a prolonged, unnecessary made up back story for Dunk that does nothing but waste time and subtract from his character.
>>
>>744622698
Is the book worth reading? Never read any of GRRM's stuff.
>>
>>744623020
They're short little spinoff novels from the main show that take place centuries before it. IIRC its also not even finished but theres like 4 books in total thus far. If its anything like GOT they're obviously gonna do their own thing once they reach that point while that fat bastard collects royalties.
>>
>>744623020
I read it after reading the main series, but I don't think you need to since it's pretty disconnected as it's set about a century before. It just follows Dunk so it's a much smaller scale story. I really liked it.
>>
Life's hard enough and you want to make it harder with a "hard" game?
People who're already going through it just want to unwind. Only people with the luxury of adding more challenge to their life can sit there and play a hard mode.
>>
>>744619356
Sometimes, I just want to play the game.
>>
>>744622698
Tansel tootall was always a dornish wench
But i agree how do you forget a knight who remembered his vows thats the most ez layup quote possible
