How come a series that is mostly about gore fest and cast of buff military dudebros managed to have compelling story and likeable characters?
>>
All I remember is that one guys wife dying
>>
>>744621137
What about Cole Train?
>>
>>744621025
Compelling what? It's literally just "resource wars bad" and "fascism bad". The story is really bare. In the first game, it's just a mission to deliver a nuke. In the second, it's a campaign against locust hives.
>>
>>744621025
Because it was made by a small group of neddy white boys. The less white and male the industry gets, the worse it is.
>>
because it was basically Band of Brothers but with mutant monsters and sci-fi. they curse, they bitch, they holler, but by the end of it you feel it when a piece of the group goes, no matter who replaces them mechanically. and instead of just laser focusing on endless melodrama for everybody, dom got the lion's share as each character rotates the world and story equally otherwise, so everyone gets smaller moments and tidbits and doesn't detract from the action or war drama.

Runs on whole grain, baby!
>>
>>744621280
it was nothing like band of brothers at all lmao

You ever feel like you're dead, and nobody told you?
>>
It didn't. You're degenerate.

Cliffy b was not a nerdy guy he probably fucked dozens of hot chicks at every e3 before he became a cuck
>>
>>744621714
It's insane how much this dude fell off.

I love the delta squad so much bros. Honestly EVERYONE before Gears 3 was a joy to watch and listen to. Ming, Dizzy, Tai, Colonel, I also liked how there were off screen named characters over the radio Marcus knew.

Nah he's right it has that gritty brotherhood.

He always acted like a egotistical dude its just that when he was making gears and looked like a surfer bro people thought better of him, but then people realized hes a drunk and lost his boyish surfer bro looks they all realized hes always was an asshole.

i'm sure many girls thought he was cute right up to the moment he started talking.

Not really, hes a product of his time. That nestling period of the 2000's post 9/11 culture that got stamped out the moment Obama got elected a second term. He made his money, had his moments, fell off. He should be thankful he isn't an eternal laughingstock or controversial magnet like Druckmann or the God of War dude who forced his assraped son to troon out.

He was only 21 during E-day. Of course he's not gonna be a buff looking dude in his early life.

the brothers in arms feel, competent strong male protagonists in a positive light, grounded military characters in world sorrounded by demons, facist elements, lots of masculinity, but also making your buddy the one with the emotional arc instead of the protagonist, the unforgiving brutality of the world, the hopelessness despite everyone going the extra mile and all the sacrifice, the chunky art direction, the german inspired architecture, show don't tell(except for what really matters), that costant sense of impending doom in the world, being with your squad when the world throws the worst at you, they're the only thing you have underground. the fact that humans already lost but are trying to save what little they have left. little stuff like this that keep stacking adds a lot of the gears of war games. Stuff that was lost in translation with Gears 4, 5 and Judgement.

The games don't tell you much about the story, it sticks to Marcus' perspective most of the time and whatever you run into will slowly fill the faps of the world, which is great.

I thought it was weird in the reveal trailer too but he gets bulky again once he puts on the armor, so I guess it makes sense that he can't be as big without it, they're not just clothes after all.

I like how the original trilogy regularly shows war as something incredibly messy. You set out with a clear goal, a full squad and a bunch of equipment, and by the time you even reach the first objective half of that is gone and you're on plan C already. 4 and 5 are a bit too "organized", it doesn't have that grungy feel. It's too clean.
