It sucks that the battle memories mode automatically kicks you back to the place where you select the next fight, with your health and healing restored. It'd be nice to be able to do more than one back to back without resetting.

The whole game has some weird decisions like that. They really should made some QoL changes to make stuff less tedious(like no item to TP you back to a root node, and having to travel back to the pavilion to teleport somewhere else)

Twice, once building around Water Flow and once around Qi Blast. I'll do a third run with Full Control eventually, but I like to be in the right mindset to fully appreciate the game before I start it again.

Don't try to cheese her or run away. Cheese strategies are possible, but the most consistent path to victory is just to learn to counter each of her moves as intended. If you see red, dodge or counter. If you see white, parry. If you see green, jump and kick. The rest will follow.
No idea about her animations, you may be having game performance issues.
>>
>>744634961
it feels that way at first blush because she's so fast, and her talisman grab attack does have a bullshit hurt box. Your best bet is to not flee and focus on learning all the parries (especially the unbinded ones).

That's at least three good songs.
The game is pretty linear but you can fight the early bosses in varying orders, as well as the last two before Eigong, and a lot of the areas are reachable early.

The anon who compared it to Sekiro is right, you're mostly going through a linear story but it's not 100% a straight line.

Were they just having a drug-addled orgy for 500 years straight?
>>
What was your favorite style of jades and talismans? I stuck to the full control one with enemy-pausing on talisman hit (mandatory for that), multitarget talisman application, and slash-to-heal for temp damage. Only had to change it at the final boss even though in retrospect it was extremely vulnerable.
>>
>>744636926
I think they were coming out of cryo once a decade or so for a drug-addled orgy
>>
>>744636926
It's worse than that, she pulled them out to party with her while knowing they would die shortly because of it. Presumably this means she was doing it to them in a cycle, killing multitudes.
>>
>>744636959
My first playthrough I was dogshit with talismans so while I didn't use the one that automatically detonates I had the jade that puts your qi into boosting charge attacks and several related ones. Eigong pushed my shit in to the point I needed to learn how Full Control worked and my second playthrough I used that to absolutely carve through the game.

Eigong is a fight where you do not set the tempo. She punishes overaggression and later phases will punish bad habits, but if you understand what she's doing and maintain proper spacing everything can be reacted or follows a very consistent pattern.

People rightfully compare her a lot to Isshin but he was a capstone. If you'd gotten to him, you had learned everything you needed to beat him - you just need to execute. Eigong is the inverse. The playstyle that Eigong teaches you is one that will absolutely dismantle every other boss if you replay the game, but it's one that no other boss pushes you to master. It's one of the best fights in any of the hundreds of games I've played but fucking hell if I didn't very nearly drop the game over her. Keep at it.

Fuxi just goes Hulk smash mode while Nuwa spams projectiles
Lady E's fight takes place in essentially her imagination so she can do whatever
Yanlao violates OSHA compliance
Goumang has her Jiangshi soldier fight for her as she isn't a trained warrior

Only Jiequan, Ji and Eigong actually know how to fight
>>
I actually just beat eigong yesterday... But it wasn't true ending eigong, because I forgot to finish the apemen questline beforehand, I've finished it now but I can't be bothered to try for the actual boss (and also get the other cheevos i'm missing, like the one about beating some guy while using a robot)
The most annoying of the fight for me was the very fast jump attack (not the red orb one) because I never get to unbound parry it.
As well as the random flames that ended up killing me more often than I'd like due to being full of red health damage most of the time

>>744625290
>>0 explorations in a vania, game is a straight line
I actually, unironically see this as a good thing, I hate getting lost in vanias yes i know this means the genre is not for me
>>
>>744636959
I loved Water Flow personally, though in retrospect there's no reason not to use Full Control against Lady Ethereal since you deflect a lot of hits and she always gives you time to charge a full blast once the talisman is applied.
>>
>>744639035
Learn defense, then mix in offense once you have it down. Her attacks are varied but they're consistent and you will be given time to react to each one. Her up-close combos in particular have very telegraphed patterns to them, so much so that even my below average reaction time had it down to an instinct by the time I won (and was able to remember most of it right away when I replayed a year later).

>>744634961 here, you guys motivated me. I finally won and am now watching credits. I had given up over a week ago. Kino game.
>>
Also, are there multiple endings based on difficulty, or based on that one multiple choice question where I chose to save the apemen? I know I had every area at 100% at least but it's Normal mode.
>>
>>744642154
only 2 endings as far as I know, one where you did everything, and one where you didn't
in the former, eigong has 3 phases instead of 2
>>
>>744642370
Oh nice, got it in one go then. Thanks anon.
I think my major breakthrough was deciding to be satisfied with non-perfect parries for when the 1st phase fencing attacks could be coming, the 2nd phase upward slashes after countering her talisman rush, and the full screen slash spam in phase 3. I just parried in a schizo paranoia way when it was possible for her to use those and recovered the temp damage other ways.

>>
>>744625935
Jiequan in C is absurd
Fight ends too early but you only feel that way because of how fucking pumped it gets you.
>>
>>744642684
Would say sekiro is harder, parry timing is much more forgiving and even if you parry imperfectly you only take temp damage, and there are 3 different types of parrying for 3 different types of attacks
>>
>>744621242
my biggest gripe with the game was the soulslike runback death system they felt like they had to add to the game because every "hard" game does it these days. It completely ruins the general exploration and platforming segments. It just punishes you even more if you're already struggling with the game which is the opposite of good game design. It just makes the best way to level to find a mob near a respawn point and farm it until you spend your skillpoints and then go explore. If it wasn't for that it would probably have been my goty.
>>
>>744642684
I should actually start that. I decided I wanted to play parry games and bought both together during the summer sale.
>>
>>744635293

>>
>>744642021

>>
>>744642963
Maybe on hard bell modo thingy. I found sekiro to be a smooth sailing the entire game and even the final boss was a sub one hour affair.
>>
>>744621242
Yeah, although eigong in particular highlights how unimportant positioning is in parry centralized combat systems, you basically sit in place and jump the entire fight
>>
>>744643107
You played through a difficult parrying game and you are going to finish it like one anon
>>
>>744643192
I think a lot of discussion about games difficulty is biased by what the people think of as difficult.
For example, your "even the final boss was a sub one hour thing." Maybe absurdly hard for many.
I think about this a lot when I think certain games are pretty easy, and people respond by saying "you really beat X in one try?"
And I answer no, and they seem to think I'm lying about finding it easy.
>>
>>744621242
I beat the easy ending boss but I just can't clutch a hard ending victory. She's too fucking fast and hits too hard.
>>
Did anyone ever upload a copy of this art book of the game from Kemoket?
>>
>>744628618
A remarkable amount of semen has been dispensed because of Ji.
>>
>>744643327
I barely used parry the entire game. The "Eureka" moment was Yanlao. I used ghostly dash to dodge his claw thing. But then I tried to use parry instead, and it actually worked! Since then I could parry full-body and giant floating weapon attacks on the first try. Parrying normal-sized weapon attacks still suck ass. You have to blindly guess on the timing, then after getting hit ten times narrow it down, then memorize it. No thanks, I can't be bothered with this shit, I can survive by dodging and tanking hits.
>>
I love the game but don't really get the complaints about Eigong. She's really not THAT hard since all the moves are either easy to read or follow a static order every time.

It's not bullshit like demon of hatred or promised consort

>>744643434
The third phase is easier than the second though
She just spams the aerial line move which is easy to avoid and guarantees damage since she stands still for a long time after it.
Just jump -> parry -> parry - use double jump to avoid the red line. Then beat her ass.
>>
>>744643414
I'm always pretty confident in learning the game systems like parry timings or doing combo executions.
So usually for action games it's a small amount of time to get the reflexes going and the rest of the boss encounters are about guessing what the game designer expects you to do.
If you don't get gotcha'd by a one hit kill, for me it's usually a matter of 30-90min to grind a very hard boss down. Most of the downtime comes from repeating early phases or running back from spawn.

>>
>>744643953
Sure. That's fine. I agree with you, and in this game the consequences of dying are so minor that mitigates the difficulty a lot in my.mind.
But I think a lot of people would say 90 minutes of grind is extremely hard. And a lot of this is just a personality trait in how you interpret difficult.

>>
>>744644082
Oh yes I agree that anything that requires that amount of time to get down should be labeled as difficult no matter what. I thought the conversation was more about the discrepancy between someone taking an hour to beat and a boss and someone taking 8.
I don't know what's the average supposed to be across the entire userbase and now I'm kinda curious. Usually when I see a forum post about someone that wall'd by a boss for X amount of hours I always take it as an outlier but I frankly don't know if it's closer to the average.
>>
>>744644131
that's fair enough
still, i think it'd be a good way of expanding on the world view/lore, and when i said prequel/sequel, it would obviously not be featuring yi as the main character
it's just that the combat and parries and the talisman system (full control my love) felt so good and smooth that i'm craving for more
>>
I got filtered by the robot centaur boss
>>
>>744644247
Ah, yeah, my point was a more general one of how people perceive a game as difficult. But that's fine.
I do think 8 hours is an outlier. You get a certain bias online of people angry enough to go get angry about online about it. While, most of the bosses here are learnable. Even me, who said that the Sleepy BBW took weeks, that was like 2 or 3 hours total.

It's interesting that they never discuss the fact that felines are obligate carnivores though. Cats are forced to eat meat (which is a difference from dogs as pets), which is core to the setting but not mentioned or used as an easy excuse by any deluded characters for doing it the least ethical way possible. It's like they've all already agreed it's wrong and their discourse doesn't contain excuses anymore.

>The playstyle that Eigong teaches you is one that will absolutely dismantle every other boss if you replay the game, but it's one that no other boss pushes you to master.
Frankly people keep repeating this but I never got it.
The playstyle that every boss teaches you is the precise timings of their specific attack animations that you need to memorise. Playing one boss does not make you much better at other bosses or enemies, except for the general skill you pick up in judging your own parries and its windup and cooldown timing etc. I beat true eigong, decided to replay the game the very next day, and died like five times when I got to the first boss again because I forgot the timing of the parries on his fuckhueg attack animations.

9S(us) is a rythm game that's all about memorisation, you mostly don't just magically get better at other enemies by mastering the timings of one specific one.

I don't think there's actual cheese, that or maybe I'm clueless. But the "easy strategies" I know of for beating Eigong mostly come down to
>lol if you just parry her you will defeat her fast!
>just parry more! if you unbound/charge parry every attack you can then kill her in one talisman!
And other shit that boils down to "get good". I'm not aware of any strategies that actually let you finish the fight without being able to parry properly and genuinely outskill her.

Maybe the closest thing to a cheese strategy might be "parry the attacks you can and run away from those you aren't sure about" but that is tedious, and unironically the longer the battle takes the more time there is for you to slip up and get fucked, so as you keep attempting her you will probably learn her patterns anyway and start parrying more shit properly so you just naturally pick up more damage faster.

Something ive wondered... since taoism is literally a Solarian religion. And the Solarians visited earth in the past. Is Taoism literally a Solarian religion that humans on Earth learnt from them? Does the game imply that Taoism and Oriental civilization come from space?
>>
Before the thread dies I want to say that the big reveal that the 'machine' that the apemen worship as a passage to God is actually a brain remover2000k and then you see the processing of the human remains in such a brutally clean and efficient method was one of the best reveals I've seen in a video game. I especially love reveals that show a deeply held religion is just another means of manipulating the masses. < plot spoiler for after the first twenty minutes of the game
>>
>>744648525
I don't remember the details but is there any indication that the meat they eat is unethical? Do they eat apemen or something?
Cultivating meat for consumption at industrial scales is something we literally do IRL, and most of the ethical concerns come from the need to maximise profit and our relatively low technology level. A civilisation like solarians could easily have genetically engineered meatbag "animals" that are barely sentient and can be bred, raised and processed entirely in fully automated facilities.

Again if there's something in the game indicating otherwise, I don't remember it, and assuming there's not then I'm guessing it's just something boring like that with no particular ethical concerns. The solarians are not inherently evil, the councils is just unscrupulous, harvesting Apemen brains was only done due to a genuine need for it; surely the species would have already solved an easy food supply a long time ago.
>>
>>744652001
The way the.. well, production lines, run imply that in some way those cadavers are being turned into meat products for consumption. Not to mention the gardens were overrun and borderline unusable.

So Taiwan is an enclave where all the rich and elite got to bribe their way for a chance to be saved from certain death, leaving the masses behind to die, while they harness their species' ancient eldritch diety for superluminal travel in order to harvest the adrenochrome from an entire planet of sapients?

I mean everyone was asleep and it's not like there were a lot of mouths to feed. The only solarians awake were the Sols that got woken up by Yi's alarm and Nuwa's party sols that likely had their own supplies anyway (it's not like they'd have been making alcohol and drugs from apemen)
>>
>>744651872
I expected it, but not as immediately obvious as it was (more like a "you find out at the bottom that they are killed there" kind of deal).
You already know at that point that Yi and Eigong are from some more advanced civilization that's clearly nearby, yet the apemen are kept in isolated and primitive state. It's mentioned that no apeman comes back or communicates after the ceremony. And what are hyper advanced aliens going to do, integrate literal cavemen and celebrate them? It was very sketchy.
>>
>>744621242
Really great game, I only wish it was longer and harder.
>>
>>744652001
Yes, they eat apemen. If you need it directly stated after playing the game you might have a brain problem, but regardless it's mentioned when shuanshuan looks up recipes and cooks them meals, one of them is a recipe needing an organ of an apeman. Yi and fatty say to each other they can hardly imagine eating something like that *now*, indicating they would have in the past.

Sometimes I do kinda wish that this game had a little bit more in terms of its series but the fact that its likely a one-and-done is respectable enough.

Although sometimes I do wish that there was some more crossover artwork, I wouldn't mind seeing Yi with more catlike characters like pic related. The species probably could've done well with firearms.

Specifically like two years after playing the game, I probably remembered these details better when I was actually playing it.
>one of them is a recipe needing an organ of an apeman
Oh yeah I remember that now.
Though that said it's kinda weird that this would be part of an old artifact recipe book since apemen presumably only started being processed once New Kunlun arrived and most of the Solarians were promptly put into hibernation, I wouldn't have expected this temporary arrangement to filter down into the local culture like that.

>>
>>744653638
What? No, It's the housecats that come from Solarians after removing the gene that gets Tianhuo'd. That's what Eigong's notes in the side lab were about. Everything Tianhuo - the genesis and the mutations come from Eigong's playing god and not knowing where to stop

man this game was so fucking fun. i always loved parrying and I played this game literally right after Sekiro, the water bending animations when you hit a clean parry just scratched my itch really well, and having that one talisman equipped where you can explode 5 at once after a full charge gave full dopamine. was just a great game overall
>>
>>744655435
Tianhuo appeared in the Origin Era and was explicitly stated to be a byproduct of Eigong's research into Fusang and immortality.
Solarians were perfectly fine before
>>
>>744656764
That's before reveal. Solarians didn't even know about Tianhuo before self-destruction was activated.
>>
>>744656949
It's in the same area, man. Eigong says It herself in the log.
>After ten years of unrelenting research, we have finally made a critical breakthrough in the synthesis between solarian cells and the Roots' regeneration cells.
>This is our first step towards immortality, and a victory for science.
>This research may even become a turning point and encourage people to embrace science and technology.
>It may be our greatest accomplishment since Lear passed away.
>All test subjects have developed symptoms of rejection and are dying one after the other.
>The cause is a hitherto unknown virus that was accidentally synthesized during the gene editing process. It has been codenamed "Tianhuo".
>The virus is contagious, but we have neither isolated it, nor found its transmission vectors.
>>
I think the whole plotline of Tianhuo being a wacky magical virus that's impossible to contain is kind of hamfisted.
The game expects us to believe that
>Solarians existed fine before
>then they got infected with Tianhuo
>Eigong actually found the responsible genetic data, but removing the Tiahuo gene makes them into cats
>they are super advanced hyper technological science wizards with live gene editing turning cats into birds, but they somehow cannot figure out how to remove the known virus sequence in a way that restores Solarians as they were before the infection (i.e. not housecats)

The explanation of the Tianhuo being the reason Solarians exist and the die-off being some kind of failsafe makes a lot more sense, but it's directly against what the game states. The explanation that Tianhuo is not a physical thing but is just some metaphysical "fuck you" from the Tao and/or Fusang seems to be what the game is going for, but it also kind of contradicts the very fact that Eigong WAS able to isolate it (and turn the solarians into housecats), and the way it's very specifically called a "virus" at all times and not just more generally a disease or affliction or something.
>>
>>744657205
Again, that's BEFORE the housecat reveal.
>nor found its transmission vectors
Did you not find it strange? This is an advanced society, they should know all about virus transmission. "virus that was accidentally synthesized" is also sus, viruses don't get spontaneously 'synthesized'. Before that I assumed that Eigong used viral gene-editing method, but it seems like that's not the case.
Anyway, what's your alternative explanation for housecats? "housecats that come from Solarians after removing the gene that gets Tianhuo'd" - your 'explanation' does not make a lick of sense. How does removal of Tianhuo necessitates (alive and well) housecats? Your 'argument' that Tianhuo damages genes - damaged genes result in death, not in housecats.
>>
>>744651221
If you play the prior bosses correctly by air kicking and using unbounded counters you will be somewhat prepared for Eigong.
The problem is that no prior bosses require being adept at these mechanics, they can also be dealt with only dashing, regular parries and tanking damage when things get too difficult. This is the playstyle that most players will fall into and therefore they will be left woefully unprepared for Eigong.
>>
beat the second last boss but rage quit before trying the last boss and dropped the game for months, did i really miss out on a kino fight?
>>
>>744658985
yes you did
>>
>>744658870
I disagree. Airkicking Eigong's talisman is absolutely crucial but it is also absolutely not crucial in any other boss and also many bosses don't even have kickable attacks at all. The only time I clearly remember using a kick is against Ethereal's red dash, I had not made a habit of using it previously and it was absolutely not difficult to incorporate it there (and then proceed to ignore it again for the subsequent bosses that don't require it).
UCs are nice and optimal for stacking internal damage, but many bosses have few and rare red attacks, and all being adept at UC does is let you speedrun the boss properly where going UC-less requires a dash instead. Most of the time the dashes are easy to pull off and it really doesn't make any kind of major difference for the boss's difficulty whether you choose to UC or dash.
Overall neither of those things are a gamechanger for most bosses, again, unless you're speedrunning. As far as ease of victory, far and away the most important skill is being able to normal parry the boss's normal attacks, which is about 60% knowledge of your own parry timings (obtained throughout playing the entire game, mostly before Eigong just going by total time spent) and 40% knowledge of the boss's attack timings - obtained by fighting that specific boss and defending those specific attacks, and not obtainable by fighting any other boss or enemy.

Not only that, but air-combos seemingly do more DPS).

Was the game supposed to have a different tone earlier in development? I always thought it was odd how violent and cruel the game is early on, with the apemen getting ritually sacrificed with the plant their bodies are being processed in being the first area, all the way up to Yi torturing the bird lady. But I think I got burnt out on Simon Says-style gameplay after Elden Ring (see the color, press the button), and Nine Sols's gameplay just felt too passive and reactive to me. Also, I wanted a Metroidvania with branching paths and exploration, and Nine Sols unfortunately isn't that. It's a 2D Sekiro, and by all accounts great at that, but it's kind of a bait and switch to call it a Metroidvania.

Then it's not cheese. Cheese means some way to bypass an intended part or mechanic, normally trivialising it. "Cheese" that's harder not only doesn't trivialise it or make it easier but it's also not bypassing anything, if you're just using intended combat mechanics for boss combat in the intended way.
>>
>>744644210
I've beaten Silksong but I don't really enjoy its combat much. Feels like it has the same issue Elden Ring has where there's no medium difficulty way to play, only baby easy mode where you use overpowered equipment to win or autistic speedrunner hard mode where you have to perfectly execute everything. I'd rather have games like Nine Sols, Lies of P, or Bloodborne where you're expected to just keep up reasonably good performance for a fight that won't let you skip through it. The choice of either playing near-perfectly, switching to easy mode, or giving up is boring.

And somehow my favorite boss in Silksong was the true final boss even though the people who say the game isn't too hard call her RNG bullshit, so who knows where the true skill issue is here.

There are ways to go max skill and beat the bosses without playing around their intended design, I just advised playing the intended way because that's the most consistent method to win for someone who hasn't beaten the bosses yet. Having actual intended counters that the game teaches you prior to the fight instead of expecting you to just bash your head against the wall and try every single possible variable until something works is called game design, you insecure faggot. If you want to brute force a boss without learning anything just to prove you don't have to follow the rules, be my guest, but accept that it's your fault you have to spend 2-3 times as long on the fight as someone who doesn't have your particular flavor of retardation.

>>744672621
It's opposite for me. I prefer Silksong to Nine Sols. In Silksong you feel like you gained a real skill. When I defeated Phantom, I felt like I'm a dancer. Meanwhile when I defeated Eigong, I felt like a monkey who presses button when the light blinks. No real skill, just rote memorization. Maybe fans of rhythm games would like Nine Sols, but music is kinda desynced from battle, so maybe not.
>>
>>744673687
Hedgehog is, but you can go even further beyond with Reciprocation and Qi Swipe to stack massive internal damage and transfer it to Eigong. This is extremely dangerous, of course, hence why it is not a good idea for a beginner.
>>
>>744674195
I will say that Silksong's early bosses are better balanced and Phantom is one of my favorites. It's some of the other bosses like Karmelita that I feel go too far in the direction of asking you to just memorize 500 things and perform them all perfectly nonstop. And that's not even mentioning Pinstress, whose only purpose as far as I can tell is to be annoying.

Hedgehog is absolutely pathetic, it does like 3 internal damage per parry or something negligible. Eigong has like 6k HP depending on phase.
Unbound Counters deal something like 200 internal damage each if you have all the perks for them (no jade required).
>>
>>744675879
Unbound Counters is something you already always do for Eigong, no?
>>
>>744676662
Yes, the point is the hedgehog jade is more or less useless

Only makes sense for Divine Hand Jade, and only for very specific attacks. I tried to do that, but it's a gimmick. I pull this off like once or twice per attempt.

There are too many anons that apparently reached Eigong and didn't crossed the finish line.

You can do it, anon! It might be a hard battle that will take hours of trying, but you can definitely do it! And the satisfaction of the hard earned victory will be worth it i promise.

Phase 1 and phase 2 are pretty similar, in phase 2 she introduces some new moves, but they are all very close im premise, she will start with an initial tell and will finish with one of two possible finishers. In fact in my opinion P2 is easier than P1, because her new moves are easier to deal with than the only mixup that she uses on P1.

Phase 3 is a whole other beast, what i recommend is to try getting into a point where you can reliably reach P3 with a healthy amount of heals, than you can beat it without having to really master the phase. Also save all of your arrow charges for this phase too!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention when talking about cheese tactics that using Qi Blast and cloud piercer arrows can legitimately just turn off some of Eigong's strongest attacks. I genuinely don't get why Demon of Hatred is considered extremely difficult or bullshit. It's no pushover, it's definitely one of Sekiro's harder bosses, but apart from some fire chip damage it's not at all unfair. You just focus on dodging and closing distance until you can hit his leg, deflect his stomps, bring the red umbrella if you can't get out of the way of something, and all his big fuck-off moves have reliable counters. Usually just running and jumping out of the attack's path then grappling if a target shows up will keep you perfectly safe.

>>
>>744686914
Not that anon but I agree. Lady Ethereal's gameplay, visuals, story, and music all combine into one of the best and hardest fights in the game, and she's the only one who comes close to matching Eigong for my number one spot. The fact that she plays totally differently from most other bosses with her clones and air attacks, but still manages to be one of the most intense fights period, only makes her more memorable and therefore even better.
>>
>>744686771
What was his third phase going to be? Fuckin Toguro 100% of 100% bullshit?
>>
>>744687161
I focused on deflection and used Water Flow to get constant talisman blasts instead on my first playthrough so I was surprised to find out how powerful the sand regen+arrow spam combo is on my second run. If you ever replay, I recommend learning to unbounded counter, because it takes fights like Eigong and Jiequan from great to amazing. The trick is to remember that the parry frames are actually rather long once you let go of the button, so you're basically charging up a brief shield instead of trying to make it frame-perfect. You can hold it for longer than it seems like before releasing if you pressed too early, too.
>>
>>744686898
He works differently than the other bosses of the game, he is more of a Dark Souls boss than a Sekiro one. He's also incredibly tank because if you fight him like a Dark Souls boss you will not be raping his posture like you do against other bosses.

Same fights, just damage/health beefed up to compensate for you being fully decked out.

Nine Sols becomes exponentially easier the more you play and the more you realize that fights aren't about reaction or adaptation or battlefield awareness, but are instead about memorizing attacks and rehearsing them until you succeed. A lot of people end up thinking Eigong is only beatable by demigods with korean cybernetic implants wired from their eyes to their fingers, but in truth once you establish a pattern "I see this move, I know when and how I should dodge for the next 3 seconds of this fight based on the pattern", it becomes far easier.

Not really, because unlike God Radahn, she has a clear, surefire way of beating.
Once you know what her moves look like, you can react and counter each one of them every time.
She is the kind of boss you don't beat through just getting lucky once, but once you beat her, you can probably do it again, and again, right away. Meanwhile Radahn is just fucking cheap with his insane tracking, unblockable and unparriable moves that combo you to death if you're unlucky.

I like thinking of Nine Sols as a semi randomized rhythm game where instead of having to beat one single established music track, you have to beat 3 second long mini rhythm games thrown at you (somewhat) randomly. And it's fun as fuck.
>>
>>744659420
I figured out that she was already gone by how Yi reacted when Kuafu mentioned her.
But the twist at the end about the messages being 500 years old, and the last one being her saying goodbye, meaning that she died soon after the departure, since the messages are just a couple of days away from each other at most still got me and I even teared up a bit.
>>
>>744696504

>>
>>744691273
How does silksong possibly have bad exploration?
>>
Alright on my Battle Memories fight I just beat her with unbound counter jade combinations, and I can see why some might call it "cheese", even though it's really just a pretty hard, faster kill (I learned the fight all over again practically).

That was way more fun honestly. I used speedy slashes jade to build my own internal damage and the powered up 3rd slash to spend charges without slowing much, then the obvious Divine Hand and Reciprocation to rapidly unbound counter and build her internal damage. My Qi style was water and it's just used to safely confirm her internal damage. Really fucking fun.
>>
I don't think this game has no exploration, just different exploration. You're searching for secrets and shortcuts (ropes and such) the whole time, why isn't that exploring?
>>
>>744700998
For me there's just not much to find. No real secret areas, hardly any puzzles. Most of the game is centered around the pavilion and shopkeepers there too.

man what Karmelita was one of my favorites. I don't remember it being that heavy on memorization/precision either but then again I was a parryfag with witch + cross stitch
>>
I always dislike parrying, but 100% completing Nine Sols convinced me to never play parry game again. Absolutely miserable experience, only boss I had fun with are first two phases of Lady Ethereal, and even then the third phase kinda ruined the rhythm.
>>
>>744710442
Karmelita pushes your dick inside out if you don't keep enough pressure on her. It's the same issue people have with Lost Lace, who teleports like a spastic if you are too far away. A lot of people's issues with inconsistency or "memorization" are actually failures to understand each boss' tempo.
>>
>>744621962
The biggest skill check with her is that she will try to force you airborne with several moves that basically make parrying a death trap around 1/4th of the time. You basically have to dodge a bunch of the moves that force you to be airborne or take a red move to the face that you just can't counter (you could also use the talisman that drops you to the ground too I guess)

If you never figure that out the entire fight becomes incredibly hard but once you get it down you'll understand what moves to dodge, when to go for that jumping counter on her and when to dodge out of the way of several airborne attacks.

>>744698919
All games based around parry are rhythm games.
>>
>>744710653
That part about LL is definitely true. I remember being really confused by what anons were saying here at the time about the teleporting being a big issue, since most of her patterns can actually be dodged by staying still and jumping. Really the only time you're forced to move on the ground is for the void blobs phase 2 onwards, otherwise just let her do her own thing and get hits whenever her counter stance expires.
>>
>>744711021
As I recall you can also parry her counterattack if you're a nut. Your attack speed increases during an opponent's flurry if you're clanking with every attack and that lets you get a longer string on her at the end.
>>
>>744711063
I did that a few times but I'm just not good enough to get every parry (also didn't know about the speed up thing). Instead since I played using witch crest I'd intentionally trigger counters and pop my nuke since that was the longest window she'd be stationary for. Ironically it felt a lot like using fully charged talismans on Eigong

I did what seemed like the logical thing and tried to play defensively to learn her moves. Apparently this was a bad idea because she just turned into a living blender for the entire battle. Also why the fuck do I have to fight basic enemies before the fight every time.
>>
>>744712016
Yeah, she punishes retreating and trying to maintain distance and is much easier to deal with if you keep close. It's a fun motif for a dancer but also like you said it's unintuitive if you're a player who plays it safe. As for the fodder, I dunno. I get that sometimes bosses having attrition waves is part of the fight itself but combined with how slow getting through the dream shit is already it was definitely a slog.

>You can hold it for longer than it seems like before releasing if you pressed too early, too.
And you can also release earlier than you think to get a really fast UC, for me learning the limits of that timing was the most impactful. For example when she does her disappearing move in phase 2 that ends in either a talisman grab or a red downward stab from above, you can spot whether her animation blurs horizontally or vertically, and if you see the vertical blur (i.e. she's jumping up to do the red downstab) you have just enough time to charge an UC. You have to release the parry button a bit early and the animation will finish and it autofires the parry, whereas if you wait until you see the charge animation clearly finished and react to that by releasing, it'll be too late. Getting the muscle memory for a minimum-charge UC is super helpful and actually makes parrying those attacks really consistent, whereas if you don't know how to do it you basically have to dash out of the way because there's no other way to defend against them.

Ye, basically. I think of it like studying for an exam on a subject you don't care enough about to actually understand. You just memorize the answers and then fire them out when the teacher asks questions.

Don't talk to me of your fromslop unless you have a very good reason to. This tangential semi-relation is not a good reason.

I reported it yesterday when it just got posted and nothing happened. I guess it didn't cross the thresholds for jannies to even look at it.

Why is this so appealing?

"Technically nothing is showing" means nothing is showing, retard. An image doesn't become explicit just because it implies something explicit. The rules are not "it has to be child-friendly" or whatever

I wish the game didn't have grindable XP and money or the soulslike corpse run mechanic for them.
The game's pacing is very story-driven and the fact that character progression is grinding-driven just doesn't feel right. Yes obviously you don't have to grind at any point, but the fact that you can feels weird, and if you die a lot you might end up having to grind for money for example. It just doesn't fit with the game's pacing.
And the corpse run just makes the early game a lot harder when you're already trying to learn the parries and dying a lot from it, so now upgrades and perks just become a lot rarer until you naturally get gud, and then you basically stop dying so it becomes nearly irrelevant except for rare cases where you really fuck up twice in a row. Except for bosses where it turns into a mandatory "go pick up the flower" at the start of every single attempt after the runback, which is also boring as shit and adds nothing whatsoever to the gameplay, except for frustration if you fuck up getting the flower one time out of 20 attempts and lose 5000 Jin as a result.

Strong contrasts are fun.
My favorite archetype to play as is, coincidentally, the assertive manlet, like Yi. In games with character creation I always make my character look short and young and generally not very threatening, and then I make him as dangerous and dominant as I can, because I like the contrast between the appearance of weakness and the reality of danger.
