One day my performance suddenly turned shitty despite having a pretty decent rig, and it would occasionally bluescreen. I didn't notice that my CPU fan died. My PC was running like ass for a few months and I didn't know why, when I noticed I bought a new fan and my computer is running like brand new again. I am stupid.

Gif Related is me thinking I would have to buy new parts or get my computer repaired in this currently awful state the PC scene is in.

Me when I'm trying to look for large but useless folders to delete in the C:Windows folder to save space on my install drive.
I've since bought a larger drive dedicated for the OS
>>
My PC fan does so much noise that I at least can rest assured that is still runs

Damn near the same thing happened to me
>Computer performance slowly degrading
>She's a little old, maybe she's just showing her age
>Eventually even youtube is chugging
>Start browsing components
>Need to save a little extra cash before jumping in
>Decide to stretch the life a little longer
>Take it all apart for a good cleaning
>See the little bit of thermal paste that I failed to wipe away
>It's slightly toasted color
>Take the heatsink off
>Brown, brittle, crusty
>Pinch a tube of thermal paste from work the next day
>Clean, repaste, dust, get it put back together
>Computer working better than I ever remember
>Still rocking the same CPU years later
Oops. Just cooked the thermal paste until crispy. Probably getting close to another application of thermal grease.

Damn, thermal paste lasts for a really long time, how long have you had your rig for it to turn brown and crusted?
