I don't understand this /v/ autism of getting angry that Smash developed its own terms while also getting angry whenever Smash players try to assert they're a fighting game or try to get close to the FGC.
You can't hold both of these opinions it makes you look retarded.

>>744627552
"end lag" isn't a thing it is a misnomer. It is a funny term because it implies that there are no animation frames after the attack and the attacker should be able to move but there is lag stopping them. It is like their narcissism has overridden the game functioning as software. The attacker should be able to move right after it is racist that the game doesn't let them do this.

it's just a smash term for recovery frames because smash already uses the term recovery in another aspect of the game and people thought it would make discussion confusing because context is hard apparently. It's not that deep

Probably fuzzy since it has a very specific meaning on its own but when combined with other terms becomes an absence of specificity
>Fuzzy on its own is a synonym for f-shiki, or an overhead that only works because of a forced standing animation via blockstun causing an attack that would whiff on crouching to connect
>Fuzzy + blocking means changing your blocking with a vague timing to try and cover both lows and highs
>Fuzzy + jumping is jumping a vague time after blocking to try and cover both an attack and a throw
>Fuzzy + abare means mashing at a vague time in a blockstring

It comes from computer science where it describes the capability to be in multiple states at the same time. Also probability where you might visualize outcomes as a 'fuzzy' looking cloud of options instead of something discrete.
So, something lets you defend against both high and low attacks at the same time = fuzzy.

Probably the old terms for light/medium/heavy punch and kick. They are extremely confusing to someone new to fighting games and the fact james chen still uses them in 95% of his commentary is annoying as shit. Even though "low short" is faster to say than "crouching light kick" you will not know what that means without context and sounds nonsensical

Not either of you, but neutral is the easiest fighting game term to define.
It's the state in which neither character has any of their win conditions activated – or if they do, their win conditions are equal.

A win condition, in layman's terms, is a condition that if you continuously satisfy, you will win the match. "If you keep doing this, you will win."

Obviously, every character shares two basic win conditions:
> Do Damage
> Don't Take Damage
If you repeatedly do damage, you will win.
If you repeatedly avoid damage, you will (very likely) win.

Let's take Vira vs. Zeta from Granblue Fantasy Versus.
Vira is an install, close-range character.
Cagliostro is a setplay, zoning, any-range character.

The match starts and, right away, neutral is already nonexistent.
Cagliostro has a teleport and traps. This aids her second win-condition: don't take damage.
Calgiostro also has two projectiles. This aids her first win-condition: do damage.

Maybe that's a bad example you say. Okay, instead of Cagliostro, let's do Gran, basic shoto.

The match starts. Neither of them are really at a range where they can do damage, and because of that, they're both at a range where they cannot really take damage.
Gran has a fireball but this barely counts. They both are failing their first win-condition, but they're suceeding at their second win-condition, which is identical. So their win conditions are equal. So they are playing neutral.

Hold on, though. Vira is an install character.
Every character also has their own unique win conditions. Cagliostro, for instance, is a zoner so her unique win condition is setting up her traps all over the place. Vira is an install, so her unique win condition is activating her install.
The second she activates her install, there is no longer a "neutral" in the match. She is always accomplishing her unique win-condition so she will always be in "advantage" until Gran hits her, and thhen she's in "disadvantage".

Simple.
>>
>>744631390
It's the one term i see getting constantly adopted by other genres though.

I like this term though because it's a proper way to describe the overwhelming amount of options and is explained right there in the words.
Unlike some shit like fuzzy or low forward, which my dumbass first thought it meant advancing forward while mostly crouching. Since that's how pro players play like in high level street fighter
>>
Wombo Combo because it never meant anything and leaked into every game somehow

They're generally easy to understand like delay teching, option selects, safe/unsafe, punishing, etc.
It's when devs come up with terms that things go down, for example what makes a roman cancel, roman?

Comes from roman meaning romantic, in the sense of being adventurous or passionate. Obviously it's a bit archaic and people only associate the word with love these days.

So because the animation for blocking is tied to hitboxes, you can get hit by a instant jumping attack or a low. There is more to it, but that's the gist of it.
>Why doesn't it happen all the time.
For Street fighter it's a matter of 2 to 5 frames, depending on the game. There are set-ups to make the mix-up more realiable.
>>
>>744631250
>It comes from computer science where it describes the capability to be in multiple states at the same time.
That's quantum state, fuzzy logic is just about having multiple outcomes, you're still in a singular state and can hold only one value.

"ignorant"
I always hear black people use this term like "it's so ig'nant", I'm pretty sure it just means "it's a good move" but I'm not entirely sure if there's something beyond that or not, because "ignorant" would imply it "ignores" things like it's an invincible move

>>
>>744634232
>faultless defense
fault as in a fault-line. So a Faultless defense is blocking without a crack in your defense. In the context of GG, this still leaves you vulnerable to grabs.

>Magic Series
This term was created by James Chen, not by Capcom. It's a term used for strings in Capcom games, with the name refering to other types of strings. So there's a P to K string, a Weaker puncher to a stronger Punch string, the Hunter series is L to M to H. And then the Magic series can just chain an attack in the series to any to any other attack that follows after
>LP,LK,MP,MK,HP,HK
Since LP is the first in this series, it can be followed after with all the other five buttons. This naming convention comes from Xmen children of the atom, and when you compare Wolverine and Psylocke to all the other chara, the "The Magic Series" is a good and fitting enough name for it. You should play that game, it's interesting. I like how Super Jumping is treated more as a special move in that one.

Fun fact; There were 3 games that added in wavedashing in 1994, they were Virtua fighter 2, Samurai Shodown 2 and Xmen CotA. SamSho's wavedash function's differently, I it seems unintentional to me.
