>>744637908
Every single Red Alert game is a "what if" scenario and they don't tie together. Even if they did, due to time machine shit it's impossible to actually draw a cohesive timeline of any kind.

There's always been rumors that the timelines were planned to be merged and fleshed out more before EA involvement but since it never actually happened in any game that's just idle speculation.

>>
>>744637908
Just assume they're all separate universes, and the inconsistencies generally stop. Then you just get different oddities where the "true ending" to each game sometimes requires events to happen from the opposing factions campaign...but that can't really happen without them actually winning as well. CnC3 probably does this best where you play as Nod and GDI at different points in the same campaign to make the inconsistencies less obvious. The Scrin campaign also works (mostly) thanks to the Scrin only appearing long enough to notice humanity is still alive on the planet, and these monkeys are more dangerous than expected before they leave and promptly never get mentioned again in the series. A shame, I would've liked to see a follow up to the Scrin as an actual military invasion happened and not just a mining conglomerate and it's personal security forces dropping in.
>>
>>744638060
>There's always been rumors that the timelines were planned to be merged
Wasn't that obvious with Kane being in Red Alert 1 and if the Soviets win, it's subtly nudging that the events of CNC 1 happen after that?

Quiet you, CnC3 was the last good CnC game before EA decided to turn the IP into mobile game trash. Kane's Wrath is legit one of the best expansions in the series and offered a lot to the game that it needed. Subfactions, Risk style campaign mode, new campaigns and skirmish maps. It was practically everything the base game was missing.

4 is the one you should be disassociating with.
>>
>>744638320
From what I've seen it's competent but lacks any kind of character.
>>
>>744638141
Not necessarily. It might imply that the Soviets winning is a bad end for the original timeline.

There was a small moment where CnC could have been a milscifi giant like Halo at its peak. Then it passed.
>>
>>744638141
RA1 is where it all begins

If soviets win -> C&C timeline

Also Kane is the biblical Caine, not some lame ayyy
>>
>>744638320
Okay, getting better, but yeah the game feels like a Command and Conquer game with the serial numbers filed off. GDI replace with GDF, Tempest Dynasty is a little bit of Nod and the Soviets thrown together. The pseudo-alien faction comes from below instead of from space, and all the super weapons and super units feel like they were balanced for some kind of competitive multiplayer instead of being cool as shit just for the fun of it. The most interesting thing is the campaign has side objectives that give you resources you can spend (and change later) for campaign specific upgrades that let you specialize or upgrade your units. So going out of your way to do the side objectives can extend the length of a mission, potentially increasing its difficulty, but you get long term rewards that can make the campaign very replayable.

Its not a very good C&C RTS though.
It ran like shit at the time and people hated that terrain deforming would prevent you from rebuilding your base.
At the time most people just played the campaign through once and went back to Red Alert 1 (then later 2, then Generals) for multiplayer.

It wouldn't just be Nod existing in the RA universe, but the tiberium itself needs to be present as well, which it isn't for RA1 and beyond. No amount of time travel shenanigans is going to make it so the green space rock doesn't land in the Mediterranean and radically alter human history and technological advancement. That's not even getting into the alien involvement either.

>bunker up in the bottom right corner and Maginot Line the living fuck out of that bridge.
You are thinking of fun in an RTS game and maybe even a match that lasts more than 15 minutes, a major mistake. You're supposed to sweat your ass off from the first second to secure as many of those tiberium fields as you can to get your econ going ASAP and rush the enemy.

I love TS but it suffers from the same issues pretty much every other RTS game has when played online: tall play is impossible, only wide is viable. Loud compfag sweaties are very loud which also made RTS devs listen to them thinking they were the majority, and now most modern RTS do all they can to avoid you building a defensive line and "dragging" out the game more than 20 minutes. Which is why RTS keep flopping and 95% of the players just want to play SP: the vast majority want to play tall, not a wide sweatfest.

This is actually a problem across the entire strategy genre as a whole: Stellaris for example has the same issue where tall is not viable (it was viable during a small window years ago but thankfully PDX's great designers saved us from fun), and sure enough 99% of the community plays singleplayer where they can do tall.
>>
>>744644479
That's why my most cherished memories of online RTS play were casual 3v3 with my buddies against the CPU in Starcraft 1.
Oh, the shenanigans we got up to.

>I never understood the timeline of both CNC timelines.
Allied/GDI is the canon timeline in every game, except C&C3 where you play two sides of the same story.

Timeline is:
- RA1 (1950s): Einstein invents the time machine, goes back in time, kills hitler. Stalin launches WW2 instead.
- C&C (1990s): United Nations creates a black ops team from looted soviet tech, to protect the worlds status quo. They botch Desert Storm which gets televised (thanks to Nod), to save face they get officially ratified as the United Nations Global Defense Initiative. Tiberium asteroid lands, GDI tries managing the situation, Nod releases harvesting tech and becomes a superpower overnight, but eventually loses. Kane gets ion cannoned.
- TS (2030s): Tiberium is everywhere except the polar regions. GDI tries evacuating people into those areas. Kane is alive, reunifies Nod and tries launching world-altering missiles, gets stopped by Michael Biehn.
- Firestorm (follows TS): Cabal uprising. GDI gets the Tacitus and uses the info in it to create sonic weapons to block the spread of Tiberium.
- C&C3 (2050s): Nod tricks GDI to ion cannon a liquid T deposit, baiting the Scrin harvesting team, who Kane wants to build their towers which are really stargates.
- C&C3 KW (2030-50s): explains what happened between TS and C&C3 and a bit after.

for Red Alert 2+:
- Continuum (2050s?, cancelled Westwood C&C MMO): Nod finds a WW2 chronosphere. They reactivate it and send back in time Udo Kier, one of their psychic acolites.
- RA2 (1970s): Yuri influenced the USSR to go on war, while he tries building psychic dominators to take over the planet.
- YR (follows RA2): Yuri wins, allies use a time machine to go back to the middle of RA2 to make sure Yuri loses.
- RA3 (present day): decades after RA2, USSR is about to collapse, so they use a time machine to kill Einstein. The world becomes looney tunes, Tim Curry has to escape capitalism by going into space.

Nah, word of god was that RA1 leads to C&C1 and that the good guy endings are always canon. Kane is in RA1 to tie things together and make it obvious that it is the same story.
Outside the game bibles, and the developers intending it to be a prequel, the only subtle nod to this I remember is RA1 Counterstrike. It has the ant missions where the faction you play as is proto-GDI (they have almost all of the GDI units but in their RA1 incarnation).

RA2 is an alternate timeline created by Yuri. But the game where this was supposed to be shown got cancelled when EA in their infinite wisdom killed Westwood. So RA2 is stuck being an alternate universe.
Also keep in mind that RA2 was not made by the core Westwood team to begin with, but the one that would go on to become EA LA, which explains why it is so wacky compared to RA1, C&C and TS.

>>744643417
>That is something Westwood directly lifted from Total Annihilation

Red Alert 1 already had "trees catching fire", it's just that you had to actively shoot them and they didn't spread from one to another. It also allowed you to open up extra paths in the campaign.
Also you could set buildings on fire and the fire did small damage over time. Only like a few pixels only, but it was an active game logic, and if you did not repair a critically damaged building, it would just get destroyed on its own due to the flames.

I don't remember how much of that did TS bring over, I think it definitely had the buildings being damaged over time from flames.

and god damn the tiberium flora in Firestorm looked crazy atmospheric.

original idea was that allied ra1 was canon in tiberium universe, with no other wars following until tiberian dawn. soviet campaign is only partially canonical, but it was meant to show kane is indeed alive in this universe. while ra2 is quite standalone and kane's presence was silenty abandoned to not confuse new players, they actually still worked with the idea of connecting the universes - yuri was supposed to be kane's experiment that was send back in time when gdi and nod were fighting in area 51 during firestorm crisis - see cut content for CNC3: incursion (future tiberium wars).

It's mainly a modding thing that enables mods like Dawn of the Tiberium Age that play completely different than base TS. It can add features build tabs and better rally points to the base game though. The slowdowns are usually caused by poor rendering, cnc-ddraw fixes this by adjusting the tick rate. If the slowdown is from unit pathing then there's no fix. OpenRA is never going to be a faithful recreation I'm afraid, it's trying to be its own thing.

the whole reason I made the map is to address as many flaws in the game as possible.

There's so much that can be solved through mapping.

Veins damage all vehicles except harvesters so allow exclusive infantry lanes, ice sinks tanks and walkers so only allows light vehicles and lighter, one-way repairable bridges create opt-in choke points

not to mention capturable buildings I littered throughout the map and a micro base full of buildings in the corners accessible only by carryall+APC+engineer or drill APC+engineer to shake up late game

the sad truth is there just aren't many good maps for these games

SO much can be solved with good mapping

Man I love the lighting in Tiberian Sun. I think it looks good. I dunno if it's something you'd include but I like it when maps have limited blue tib or gems near the starting point so you can get going quicker
>>
>>744643707
Do the old buildings render the same in game? They look so out of place without being affected by lighting, but idk if it's just in editor.
And top left helipad is placed on top of trees

Looks cool but contested blue tiberium field next to base for the cost of 1 engineer is too much of a threat to ignore. You'll have to keep an eye on that and all the fighting is going to happen there if any of the 2 people decides to harvest it.

By that logic GDI wouldn't have produced mechs in the first place, obviously the existence of TS implies they figured out a way to make mechs make sense and then TW comes in and has to be the "well actually" guy, they are just retarded ad hoc justifications. Using the Tacitus to make countermeasures against tiberium does make sense, but tiberium was supposed to be more like a mutating floral virus type shit, not actual crystals that those retarded developers transformed it into in TW, in an actual C&C3 GDI would be fighting against mutated wildlife and plants to land by land sterilize tiberium in addition to Nod.

Yes, very but the campaign for the base game is bugged due to EA "fixing" a imbalance caused with multiplayer. You receive less resources per drop off which fucks up the balance of the singleplayer missions that still operate under the assumption you're getting the original amount. So a lot of missions can be stupidly hard as you'll be resource starved trying to keep up with the AI that has infinite resources and will always have specific timings for their attacks. A fan patch fixes that, but otherwise it's still a fun campaign that highlights the strengths of all 3 factions and their playstyles. Kane's Wrath ramps it to 11 and brings back the cyberpunk dystopian look of Tiberian Sun, down to making a lot of the units look as close to their Tibsun equivalents (the Hand of Nod gets to be a literal hand again) and the campaigns are still great. You can get both pretty cheap nowadays and it's got a lot of mod support.
>>
>>744646853
They make sense because the terrain you fight in Tib Sun is so tiberium-saturated that in many places they function as natural tank traps. The only tanks in those games are Mammoths limited to a few missions that were implied to had been abandoned in their bases because they physically couldn't leave them and Ticks which were made with the ability to dig to solve the same problem. The Tick itself shows that tanks weren't rendered ineffective in general, they just couldn't be brought to bear.
>>
>>744646550
>wasn't kane a scrin or their agent?
No, that was never planned or part of the lore. The Scrin were always antagonists to everyone, even Kane and Nod, they just want to steal Scrin tech. The Tacitus device that is introduced in TibSun, that Kane uses to learn how to lure the Scrin, is from an alien race the Scrin destroyed
>>
>>744646853
CnC3 still has the mechs for both GDI and Nod, with GDI naturally getting Juggernauts as one of their big ground artillery units that can flatten bases by themselves and stop some Nod attacks with the help of sniper support. Kane's Wrath brought back the rest of them, and Steel Talons as a faction is fun, but you go all in as the mechanized subfaction to the point that GDI's big weakness to air becomes even bigger. Still, Titans and Wolverines mulch any equivalent unit both from other factions and from mirror match ups.

By Kane I would blow up some GDI scum right now.

as I said, TW is a soft reboot. autistic arguments will lead us nowhere. it was 7 years between firestorm and TW during time of impressive and pivotal technological jump from sprites to full 3d model graphics, plus EA acquisition of westwood, and many original ideas were abandoned.

And it works well for being a sequel to Tiberium Sun, but it still doesn't slot neatly before Tiberium Wars.
One of the issues I heard is that EA was operating under the assumption Tiberium Dawn happened in 2020 for some reason due to a mistake in documentation so the lore was crunched to make sense under that lens when they wrote Tiberium Wars and only realized the mistake after the game was ready to ship because lol no dev time.

you missed the two cyborg commandos guarding the field, they'll delete a harvester in seconds and require attention to deal with. You can't nigger them to death with air units either because of the AA obelisks.

also the image extracted into the megamap is pretty much 1:1 what it looks like in-game. The old buildings just look bad. They're meant to be destroyed to make way for the tiberium field otherwise I wouldn't include them.

Honestly the mapping tools (WAE) are really good now. There's still a bit of a learning curve and there's fuck-all in the way of actual tutorials so you have to really sit down and work with it but overall I think it's really fun, and because Tiberian Sun is so unique in its design there's just so many possibilities for cool maps.

>>Oh yeah, those advanced mechs we all had? We went back to tanks
Intel database explains this. Nod became too good at blowing up the mechs legs, so they went back to tanks. This is even something you can do in-game, with the nod/gdi commando being able insta kill Juggernauts, Avatars, Tripods, and in KW Titans as well.

>>Yeah the world is still fucked but it's also fine for the most part?
Firestorm ends with GDI unlocking a lot of info from the Tacitus about Tiberium. This allowed them to create ways of controlling Tiberium. In one of the campaign missions, Nod fights in a city, and one of the objectives is to "spread tiberium" which in practice means destroying the sonic walls around a very small tiberium patch, allowing it to grow to a full size field.

Weather effects were also planned into the game but got cut because the game was rushed. Ion storms turned from theaterwide effects to a Scrin weapon.

One thing I missed was the ability for terrain to morph and deform from extended attacks, but that would've been far harder to do with the games engine (I mean Populous The Beginning had it but that one had very basic 3d graphics).

Is there terrain deformation from building though? Or was that in Generals? Like if there's a small hill you can build on it and it will be flattened. I guess it would have been pretty unbalanced since even now it's hard to find spots to build on

Depends.

- In C&C3 Kane tricks the Scrin into invading (fun fact: it wasn't an invasion force, just a small harvesting team. The invasion force would be a lot bigger.), so they can build their tower which is a stargate, Kane wants this tower completed at all costs. Scrin data logs show that they are VERY interested in learning more about Kane for some reason not elaborated on.
- The game we never mention extrapolated on this by Kane wanting to use the stargate in the tower to go home. Someone once mentioned (I'm not sure if this was in the game) that he is in fact an alien, and everything he did, guiding humanity from antiquity, was a means to an end so he can escape this prison Earth.
- Renegade had him as the biblical Cain (Renegade even had Abel's crypt in a temple).
- TS mentions that Kane didn't acquire the Tacitus, he made it.
- Firestorms ending shows that Cabal had a bunch of clone tanks with many Kanes inside, whatever this implies was never expanded upon.

So... you have to draw your own conclusion. He can be anything from either a scrin agent, alien prisoner, a living biblical figure, a dude who keeps getting cloned as to make it appear that he never ages, a crazy terrorist nut, or the messiah himself.

TS uses mechs because the terrain was so fucked that tanks had issues. Nod reacted by learning to C4 their legs, which made the mechs phased out, except by the Steel Talons who use old school tech.

C&C3 has a lot of the planet cleaned since after Firestorm they decoded parts of the tacitus and learned that they can use powerful sonics to either prevent Tiberium growth (shown in the C&C3 Nod campaign), or to shatter tiberium outright (their Sonic Emitter weapon was originally intended for controlling Tiberium, says so in the intel database, I think).
That plus advancement in tank tech meant they could go back to more economical tanks instead of more expensive/powerful mechs.

>but tiberium was supposed to be more like a mutating floral virus type shit,
No, Tiberium was always supposed to be a towering killer crystal. It was inspired by the b-movie The Monolith Monsters, which have an alien crystal that suck up moisture to grow to immense size, then tumble down, break to tiny bits, and repeat the cycle - if a human was contaminated, the monoliths would suck up all the moisture from them, turning the human into a salt statue. Westwood was really heavy into b-movies and took a lot of inspiration from them.

In C&C and TS it just sucks up all minerals from the earth. You harvest it because refined tiberium basically has everything that was in the earth, making it the best mining tool, making refined tiberium worth more than gold.
How it works is that it also mutates life. Trees get mutated into blossom trees, and have tiberium in their spores, which then spread with the wind and mutate more stuff. The tiberium fields themselves are NOT the spores belched up by the blossom trees however, but the roots of the blossom tree that grows small pods on it that will grow the crystals. This is shown in an in-game cinematic.

The short version is that tiberium is a scrin mining tool. It sucks up all natural resources of a planet making it easy to harvest, plus it breaks down and kills all native life. It's also extremely volatile, when it reaches critical mass it explodes spectacularly, signaling the Scrin that it's time to harvest. This is what Kane mimicked in the C&C3 campaign to trick the Scrin to Earth, who were then surprised to see humans still alive.

>in an actual C&C3 GDI would be fighting against mutated wildlife and plants to land by land sterilize tiberium in addition to Nod.
Nah, they did that in TS, which ends with them learning how to fight Tiberium. Then they spend 20 years cleaning up the planet.

>Yes, very but the campaign for the base game is bugged due to EA "fixing" a imbalance caused with multiplayer.
This is false. The only campaign bug the patches introduced is that one Nod mission where you have to build a turret an optional parameter, but you start with a crane which was patched to be unable to built turrets for balance reasons.

However you can still build an MCV, and use that to built a turret. So it's possible. The mission just doesn't tell you about doing this.

>You receive less resources per drop off which fucks up the balance of the singleplayer missions
false, all the eco changes were for Kane's Wrath, not C&C3.
what the C&C3 patch changed was making all harvesters harvest at the same speed, which was a bugfix.

>So a lot of missions can be stupidly hard
false, all the missions are all really fucking easy, except the commando ones which can be challenging (fuck Operation Stiletto).

like people say the Croatia GDI mission is hard but the map is littered with money crates and you can sell walls for a ton of money, use predators to clean the upper right base, take it over with apc engineers, now you can build buildings and you can basically take over the entire map... without touching the GDI MCV convoy at all. It's one of the easiest maps but people claim it's "hard", because they are retards.

It was done by huge fans of the game but on a shoestring budget in a rushed development timeline because EA was afraid of Starcraft 2 stealing their thunder (which ended up coming out years later).

It was an okay game considering the circumstances.

I mean I love the game but if you played it from day one you'd be aware of how bad it was initially.

>which makes the fact it leads into TW only more confusing.
KW campaign takes place in 3 acts:
1. between TS -> TW (with you dealing with different splinter factions to unify Nod),
2. during TS (it explain a bunch of stuff that was glossed over in that game), and
3. after TW (when you activate the marked of kane to reclaim the Tacitus)

>So, what causes the Middle Eastern fuckfest if the Soviets aren't an enemy of the west in the Tiberium timeline?

In the Tiberium timeline it's Nod who is arming the muslims (never mind the fact that Nod also has military bases and their own temples in Egypt). The middle eastern fuckfest happened because they dropped a certain country in a region where muslims have lived for 1500+ years by then, and then proceeded to genocide the native muslims. Soviets just armed the muslims because the certain country they opposed was armed by the Americans: standard civil war fare.

One of my biggest gripse is needing to concrete the floor of your base or else you get completely fucked up by the drill APCs, it's like they took the monotonous activity that no one liked called "building walls" and decided to make it so you have to now also pave your entire base tile by tile one at a time or have a massive disadvantage whilst fighting nod

There are more things that bug me, but the annoying part is that there's no one big issue I can point to and go "that one thing ruins the game", it's just a lot of little annoyances that all add up to make me look back at it with criticism

>Oh yeah, the problem of Germany being really sick of a certain demographic cramping up their lebensraum hadn't been really solved in RA1,
Red Alert still had a world war against Stalin, who was not particularly iffy about killing civilians either (both in real life and in the game - first soviet mission in RA1 is to eliminate a civilian village of dissenters if you remember). So it's safe to say that Europe was just as bad if not worse as it was after WW2; and certain demographic would have emigrated from the war the same way.

Additionally soviets are using V2 rocket launchers so they may have relocated german rocket scientists too, or spied on their works (german rocket clubs happened way back in the Weimar era, if I recall right).

>so it's probably that following the war said group of people were given a less extreme ultimatum to go back to that place in the desert they keep singing praises about and never return and the Allies will fund the effort.
No, certain country happened because the land belonged to the UK and the US told them to give the land to their masters. In both RA1 and our time, UK and all European major powers were exhausted and had little say in the matter. The US took their place as the global superpower, and we know who lobbies the US to do their bidding. So it's safe to say that certain country happened the exact same way in RA1 as it did in real life (except that they did not start hunting down Nazi war criminals around the globe).
Nazi Germany wanted to send them to Madagascar by the way, not the middle east.

I don't know if there are any RTS games but Wolfenstein New Order is about nazis winning while you have amnesia.

I recall some old movie about an alternate timeline where the nazis won the western front, but they were still fighting on the soviet front in the.. 60s or 70s? And were begging the US to help them defeat godless communism. I think the plot was the resistance trying to turn the US against them by leaking the papers on the camps.

I remember playing this as a kid who knew nothing about Dune and getting jump scared by sandworms eating my units and half my base.
>>
>>744657825
I played a bit of it and it was pretty cool. It's more RTT than RTS though, as you deploy selected squads of units and there's no basebuilding. There's a lot of unit management going on, each unit has a limited ammo count, infantry can pick up different weapons and mount empty vehicles if you have a soldier who can drive it, vehicles have part specific damage where damaged wheels would make it slower and suchlike. Long range weapons like missile launchers are actually long range and not a stone throw away.
I need to get back to it eventually.

I had fun with the Zerospace opening season for their galactic war mode.
It has this starmap of systems which you fight over by doing individual RTS maps for the alliance you're with. Because it's in beta the most fleshed out way is coop missions against AI, but the idea is that you're going to be able to do other matches like 1v1 and survival maps that will all play into the war.
There's early/placeholder stuff for building up planets and pirates attacking systems that you have to deal with.
40 bucks might be a bit steep right now depending on if coop missions is your thing, but it's worth checking out if you haven't.

>>
>>744667221
C&C3 and the expansion are great, RA3 is trash, took the sillyness too far and the 3D models look nothing like they did in RA2.
>>
>>744667221
I personally like CnC3 more than RA3. I liked its campaigns and general gameplay more even if a lot of the units have special abilities with a whole fucking list of different hotkeys you have to remember for them, meanwhile RA3 standardized the special ability keys since they gave literally every unit a special ability of some sort. Also that and the RA3 campaign has a slot for a co-op partner to play with in nearly every single mission, and if you don't have a partner some missions can get harder because you should never trust the AI to do anything actually helpful for you. Likewise RA3 simplified the economy side of things even further where each refinery gets exactly 1 collector that is on auto-pilot to and from the ore field on a little treadmill by itself. It's almost insulting how simplified it was.

Either way, I just like the Tiberian Sun universe over the campiness of Red Alert, but it's hard to beat Tim Curry.

CnC3 is perfectly fine. It fiddles with the lore/setting a bit to turn back some of what made Tiberian Sun so cool and the cutscenes often miss that little something but it brings plenty of of its own cool things. Play through each of the campaigns at least once, and pay attention when you get back to the main menu after that.
Note that they fucked campaign balance for harvester income because it's mixed with multiplayer so make sure you get a fix or play on a reasonable difficulty.

Well, the perspective is that SC2 coop is still very popular if you look at the RTS space, but in contrast to that this is actually alive and will have the seasonal galactic war stuff on top. I picked it up at the start and there were some really obvious and obnoxious issues, but they moved fast to eliminate all of the stuff really causing friction. If it had stayed like it was at the start I wouldn't even be recommending it to anyone but I'm quite optimistic with how they went about it. That coop can be done with AI I think will help too. I actually only played with AI, even if it's not the best at brutal.

There were several factors, the biggest one probably being EA shitting the bed with CnC several times in a row and then Blizzard pushing out the Starcraft 2 with insane production value and some skill of remaining old guard devs, nobody in business would dare to challenge that. It was only a colossus compared to other genres at the time, in the 2000s console and casual gaming steadily grew more popular and RTS did not have a place in that ecosystem. Looking at 2006-2007 the relatively middling success of Tib Wars on 360 (a million copies in a month; enormous for an RTS) vs the smash hit popularity of Halo 3, Gears of War and CoD4 made it very obvious to devs where the future was for gaming.

Despite everything it still baffled me somewhat how things still went to the level of Concord and Marathon recently when these lessons about audience and appeal have been around for so long now.
There's still the continued blight of executives making careless decisions while the corporate system shovels them cash, but if you look at the dev side it was a lot of blind faith there as well, no actual understanding of a reasonable audience. Fascinating really.
>>
>>744677093
It's a running joke that western developers just don't understand the concept of "target audience" when Japan figured that out literally decades ago. It's not even just the publishers being the issue, this is true for all western developers regardless of size. The funny thing is I feel like the western industry better understood this concept in the 90s and 00s, but completely lost their IQs and forgot about it during the 10s when suits started to get involved and began running everything like a "proper business". I just can't understand how this is such a difficult concept to understand, it's not even just NA that doesn't get it, western EU also for some reason is retarded about this.

Starcraft and AoE2 have skewed your retarded heads towards a belief that has no basis in reality, and before you mention Warcraft 3, that shit wasn't played for the actual official multiplayer, but for the custom maps which was more moba shit than RTS. All three of these games have a STRONG campaign mode.

Every single NEW RTS that has tried to come out with a PVP focus has ALWAYS failed without exception, in fact the first one that was successful after more than a decade of drought was They Are Billions that had no fucking PVP mode whatsoever. to add to this. If you do play the third tiberium game, get the patch the unfucks the economy for singleplayer. Unlike in the previous games where the economy was fixed for the campaign, no matter the balance changes, the devs forgot to explicitly set the campaign balance so a latter multiplayer patch making the economy worse was applied to the singleplayer campaign making it absolutely awful to play.

I was pretty explicit in my previous posts but I'll repeat myself one more time. RTS games only stayed alive due to PvP players. RTS games are mainly played due to PvP. WC3 is a PvP focused game. WC3 custom games are PvP focused. WC3 custom games would not exist as they did/do if it was a PvE only game. Shit balance unfortunately, it was obvious the americans were still very much butthurt about 9/11.
Ironically the GLA were still the most fun to play as.

I have no idea. I pirated it because I'm not paying money for a demaster AND they unlisted the original game. Very, very happy I didn't pay for it as I think balance patches are usually gay as fuck and the DoWDE patch notes is proof. It's fun but not fun enough to buy so I can play MP.
