There is also Culdcept
Cool but criminally underrepresentedI especially like Dokapon Kingdom's player dynamics. It's pretty much as if they opened Pandora's Box for multiplayer. Under the right circumstances you can not just halt progress, but outright deny it pretty meaningfully. Nothing tests a group of people quite like Dokapon.
>>744640013It makes me wish I had friends.
>>744640013Dokapon Kingdom is one of those games designed around having 1-3 other players with you for extended periods or several days' worth of time. The average gamer isn't going to have that these days.
>>744640013I like board games and card games so yeah. It's always a shame when a modern video game doesn't have matchmaking and crossplay.
Culdcept:The gameplay of the Culdcept series is often described as a hybrid of Magic: The Gathering and Monopoly, in which players take turns traversing a game board filled with squares of varying elements or effects.[1] Players first construct a deck of 50 monster, item or spell cards. When in the game itself, players roll a dice at the start of each turn, which determines how many spaces they can move. Landing on an unoccupied space allows the player to take control of it with a monster and grants them magical power. They can later spend power upgrading these lands, which further increases their total magic.[1]If a player lands on an occupied space, they can battle the foe there, and if they succeed, they will take control from the enemy. Or, they can choose to pay a toll without fighting the enemy. If the battle is lost, the toll must be paid regardless.[1] Players earn points towards new card packs when playing in Story Mode, but the games also have a player versus player element in which multiple people can battle.[1]
Dokapon KingdomThe game is a hybrid board game and role-playing video game with modes varying from story mode to battle royale in which four players are assigned a mission. Players spin a spinner and then move to any spot on the board that is reachable by moving that number of spaces. Players will have the freedom to choose the direction they want to go. Landing on an "empty" yellow space or another player will typically cause a battle, but sometimes the player will encounter a strange traveler that may allow them to play them at a minigame, or hire their services to steal or harm the other players. The battle system plays out in roshambo style, with the attack option beating counter, the counter option beating strike, and the defend option resisting the attack option. Multiple magics and stat changes play out both in battle and on the game board, while class-specific skills increase with player's job level.[citation needed]Three starting jobs are available to the new adventurer (warrior, thief, and magician), and following a pattern of leveling, eleven character jobs and darkling (if someone hears the whisper of the dark revenge, usually the current last place player) are possible. The game is won by the player with the most money at the end. The winner gets to marry the king's daughter if the player is male; the king makes an offer himself if the player is female, but will be rejected. However, regardless of gender, the winner takes the control of the kingdom.
Avalon no Kagi (Japanese and arcade exclusive)The game is a board game with 4 players, and two roles, divided into one key holder and three chasers. Inserting the deck and the card that saves the players progress, start the game. The key holder has to besiege the towers and open the main castle with his key to win the game. The chasers have to bump into the key holder, and after a battle, transfer the key and reverse the roles. The three chasers and the key holder take turns, with all the three chasers moving at once. Using monster cards makes the character move on the board. From the deck of 30 cards, six cards are allowed to be used in each turn. The cards have attack, defense and movement values and are also categorized in four colors and rarity values. In addition to monster cards, there also support cards for either the monsters or the character. The attack value of the monster card needs to be greater than the defense value to win the battle. Passing certain checkpoints and winning battles increases life points. The life points decrease after each turn.[8][9][10]In total, after all the updates, the game had 295 different cards.[6]
Cool in concept but boring in practice.
I love the idea of Dokapon but I loathe the idea of playing it.
if mario party destroys friendships, dokapon kingdom inflicts generational traumaavoid at all costs
>>744645467Dokapon is a great game but it is not for the spiritually weak
>>744645975I love board games with rpg mechanics but also my last irl experience involved someone getting smacked with a dice on the face so I stick to online and it's impossible to play this kind of game online either because it's randoms who'll bail after getting through 10% of a match or people who know where you live and will mail a pipe bomb to your adress
>>744640013You thought Mario Party was bad? Dokapon Kingdom will cause your friends to asphyxiate you with a pillow in your sleep.
Games are too hard desu. Can't ever see the content without cheats or blatant super house ruling.>What?Talisman: Digital Edition is brutal and the AI is unfair on top of rigged dice odds. (YOU WILL TURN INTO A TOAD EVEN IF ODDS ON THE ROLL ARE MORE LIKELY FOR YOU NOT TO!). From the makers of Dokapon:>Viractal: Will You Trust Your Party?40 hours and I've not gotten past the first board. I've come close to beating the dragon but he just spams debuff removal so any strategy but ultra brute damage and damage negation from it are out.>RNG on what cards you get>RNG on traits acquired. Means success is far from guaranteed even if you pick meta party comp. The game has like 5 full boards and I've not seen past the beginner map. It's way too hard. For a PvE only game I thought I'd like more, Dokapon mogs it for being actually fully playable without autistic challenge to unlock maps. It's bad. That said, that dev has the market cornered.
