Xen is........beautiful.

Xen was so fucking long and repetitive in this game.

It's funny how in their attempt to fix it they created a new set of problems. In a way, they reserved the spirit of the original Xen.

Why elven music is playing there?
>>
>>744640545
started out great and then just went on and on and on and on, quality dropping steadily all the way

Where does the gravity come from?

I like how Black Mesa was obsessed with fixing Xen, only to remove the unique atmosphere entirely AND make it the worst part of the game again by turning it into a slog.

Yeah, the one thing I'll say BM's Xen did well was the research station. Having a NASA style temporary base for the researchers stationed there was cool and something missing from HL.
>>
First part of Xen is fine. Interloper and to an extent Gonarch's Lair stretch on for too long though. I never understood the devs' fixation with plug puzzles.

Black-Mesa completely butchered Xen's look and feel. They literally turned it into Pandora 2.0.

It's not meant to be "beautiful" and comfy, but a truly alien, otherworldy, outright Lovecraftian dimension where Earth's laws of physics do not apply.
The goddamn cheesy Portal 2 jumping "puzzles" also don't mesh well.

The Half-Life 2 episodes spammed them so naturally the BM devs copied them instead of thinking up their own solutions.

Because HL2 had puzzles so they thought BM should also have them even though it's a HL1 remake. And the puzzles in HL2 were more to show off the physic motor. The plug puzzles were insanely boring and dated.

>olf Xen
>Having atmosphere
You're wrong
>>
>>744641321
Pretty much on point. I would even argue this applies to almost the entire game.
>>
Tangentaly related.
Is Half-Life Alyx worth it, if I don't have a VR? Is the noVR mod any good?
>>
>>744641667
You haven't even played Half-life and it shows.

Did anybody else get lost when navigating through Xen or am I just retarded?

Do they still have the lego crystals?

There was nothing to ruin HL is uninspired shit at it's base level.
>>
>>744640718
explain the old ones they solved and the new ones they created
>>
>>744640545
It was long but repetitive? It had huge variety. Thoroughly enjoyed that level though, I never understood the disdain people had for it.
>>
>>744641661
You can also probably count the total amount of plug puzzles in HL2 on one hand

Trying too hard, zoomie
