Was it a good RPG?
>>
it was badly designed
>>
>following the main quest
>goes from level 10 enemies to level 25 enemies in the next step
dropped it right here
>>
>>744641369
One of the best. Few people know real-time combat was mandated addition by the publishers they cobbled together in couple of months.
>>

>npc react to your race, gender, tech affinity, state of undress and choices
>npcs have a simple schedule to allow deeper roleplaying like thieving at night
>can whore yourself out as a girl
>can have 2 prostitutes at the same time
>story has some funny twists
yes
>>
>>744641369
You can convince the final boss to kill themselves.
That's a good game in my book.

I wish more games had retard playthrough options if your INT is too low.

Beside Arcanum I know of the two Fallouts and maybe Planescape Torment, are there any other examples?
>>

>good rpg
>western
pick one
>>
>>744641369
It's genuinely amazing how bad the combat is, so no
>>
I don't know because I haven't played it yet but I will eventually. I just have a feeling it will be super janky but I'm ok with old, awkward games.

It's not only good it's the BEST RPG. And only gnomes will say otherwise.
>>
>>744641757
it's hard to choose just one, but arcanum would be up there
>>
>>744641757
It's more steampunk than western.
>>
>>744641439
>rushing the main quest
skill issue
>>
>>744641439
sounds like my experience with AC Odissey in the first days after release. Artificially decrease your xp gain so your forced to buy the xp boosts
>>
>>744641757
I pick both
>>
>>744641369
It's a good concept for an RPG but not an actually good one to play
>>
>>744641665

SUBVERSIVE

Only low ints I've seen are
fallout 1/2
arcanum
maybe a bit of new vegas

that's it
there won't be other low int games, it's offensive
>>
>>744641369
Still is.
>>
>>744641757
Most good RPGs are western. JRPGs are adventure games with stats most of the time.
>>
>>744641990
the soundtrack was good

I always found it fascinating how Arcanum lets you go about things in your own way without telegraphing it. You know if it was a modern day game Conjure Spirit would get a popup so the players are informed they can, in fact, kill everyone and still talk to them. Arcanum lets you use its tools however you wish.
>>

that dog has seen some shit
>>
>>744641369
Literally the only game in existence where you can play as an ugly person.
>>
>>744641757
As opposed to JRPGs which are visual novels with pointless grinding thrown in.
>>
>>744642939
I wish it had actual fleshed out companions, though. Most are just followers with a paragraph of backstory. Even BG1 handled it better overall.
>>
>>744642985
You meet it while it's being abused by a (((gnome))).

being a technology chad and sticking with it is very rewarding.

>>

Mandalore is correct on this one - it's THE game primed for a remake/remaster/enhanced edition.
>>
>>744641369
No. I'm told it was the best.
>>
>>744645940
Wasn't the source code for the game lost?
>>
>>744646223
No, Tim Cain has the source code.
He's even made videos about toying around a bit with the code so it can run on modern OSs.

>I wish it had actual fleshed out companions, though. Most are just followers with a paragraph of backstory.
Which is the best way of doing it.
Fleshed out characters are annoying as fuck: see Baldur's Gate 3 or any other RPG with characters who are self-inserts of the writers.
>>
>>744643572
>implying any of that is real
Think about it: you go to an otherwise empty island and find an abandoned research facility with abandoned torture devices and an incomplete journal conveniently left there for you to find.
You have no way of proving the provenance of that journal (which may as well be a fake) and if you return to the half-ogre island you won't find anything.
I would stop thinking about it if I were you.
>>
Like all CRPG, 95% of the game is dialogue and the gameplay is a barely functional afterthought. Hope you figure out you can spam harm like a mad cunt or that they dog's teeth are and invincible, unbreakable weapon.
>>
>>744641369
It had problems but it is a fucking fantastic setting.
>>
>>744641369
No, even Starfield is better

A few fleshed out characters, like Virgil or Magnus can be great, but I agree that it's annoying in stuff like Kingmaker, where a lot of time it feels more like their story than your character's.

>A few fleshed out characters, like Virgil or Magnus can be great
Sure, but those count as "followers with a paragraph of backstory". You don't really need more than that.
The game has far greater problems than shallow companions, like both TB and RT combat modes being broken.
>>
>game is supposed to make you pick between magic or technology
>but with magic you get and instant win spell and in the same tree the spell that lets you talk to the deceased
>meanwhile in technology you get to... make a robot spider maybe, if you can get the parts that are annoying as fuck to gather.
>>
>>744647673
Magic = Easy mode
Tech = Hard mode
I don't think there's anything wrong with it in principle, but they should've implemented a system like in the Avernum games where you either pay trainers to learn spells or look in dungeons to emphasize magic being very powerful but hard to learn.
>>
>>744647673
>meanwhile in technology you get to
Ride in the Tarant metro and train unlike you unwashed m*ges.
Jokes aside, if you want to have fun pick one of the conditional traits for aptitude like Nature Mage and you get to have fun with tech and magic both.
>>
This thread inspired me to finally tackle this one in my backlog. Wish me luck bros

actually just pure melee fighter is the most straightforward and strongest because you're not reliant on much. guns are also great, but you need meta knowledge to actually find the good guns and trainers.
>>
>>744648284
Good luck anon. As with many old games, read the manual if you're confused.
