Ain't it great? With Arch, the whole point is that anything on your system is something YOU chose to install. There is no bloat by design.
The purpose of a distro is to choose: 1) who you get packages from, and how they are maintained, and 2) which packages come preinstalled and how they are configured. Arch's choices are to give you the most recent versions possible and have essentially no packages preinstalled.
Since on Arch everything is installed by hand by design, their wiki has a ton of extremely useful information about how a ton of commonly used packages work, how to use them, how to set them up, what quirks they have, etc. It's useful even when not using Arch.
>>

>>
>>744644569

>>
>>744644584
Have you tried not installing malware from AUR? Life must be hard when you are the type of person compelled to install britneyspears.mp3.exe from KaZaa.
>>
>>744643314
Why would I buy AMD over Nvidia?
>>
>>744644569
Ain't it great? With your own kitchen, the whole point is that every single ingredient on your plate is something YOU grew, harvested, and butchered yourself. There is no pre-made convenience by design.

The purpose of a restaurant is to choose: 1) who you get your raw livestock and seeds from, and how they are cultivated, and 2) which raw items come in your basket and how they are butchered or threshed. Your own kitchen's choices are to give you the most unwashed, unrefined crops possible and have essentially no utensils or appliances provided.

Since in your own kitchen everything is milled and cooked by hand from scratch by design, their culinary manual has a ton of extremely useful information about how a ton of commonly used crops grow, how to harvest them, how to mill them into flour, what soil quirks they have, etc. It's useful even when you're just ordering takeout.

there's quite a lot of things that are better for linux, not in every field but as gamedev I've never had to look back for anything other than fontlab
krita is goated kate is goated the fact I can scroll faster than 5 scrolls a minute without windows going Book Boop Boop is goated the fact I can open, move, even delete a file while its open in another program and shit just works is goated the fact sftp doesn't rely on some shitty freemium garbageware but is just built in as a kioslave is goated being able to just use webp avif jxl files normally instead of the os shitting itself and dying is goated the many many window management features like exposé and hover focus and such are goated
I could keep going about productivity.

Only thing that is honestly rough around the edges is CAD. FreeCAD is on par with with some mainstream CAD programs for being unintuitive and a battle to fix errors in, but Fusion is piece of software that just knows what you meant to do. That is the only thing I don't have a good replacement for. Does suck though because it worked in Lutris when it was Fusion 360.
>>
>>744644775
There are ALWAYS malicious packages posted on AUR retard. Why the fuck are you trying to trust a user repository? The only difference between AUR and KaZaa is that you have to register for AUR.
>>
>>744644847
>there has always been malware on the aur
you don't say faggot, of course there always was malware on the aur but now it is on a larger scale that online news outlets are reporting on it. if it wasn't that serious then nobody would've gave a single fuck about it.

Arch users aren't the victims here, this is either hitting nobody or people who use derivatives like CachyOS or Manjaro. This is boring ass AUR vandalism.

And yes, you're a tourist. Why would pacman.conf break? The only reason to edit it would be if you're setting up a system or if Arch gets rid of 32 bit support completely.

>>
>>744644569
Lol no. The whole point of arch is so that you can install arch, so you can then tell people thar you installed arch (whether they wanted to know or not) and only needed 8 weeks to learn arch.
Everyone else just installs a regular distro so they can get on with actually using it for more important things (yes, more important than installing arch).
>>
>>744647976
it's more like "I love this car that doesn't force me to use apple cuck play, pay a subscription for the heated seats, or see ads on the gps display, and with a healthy community of aftermarket parts, I can fix and work on it for as long and as much as I like" if you want to be more genuine with your analogy.

If you're not gaming on it, just use mint with the cinnamon desktop. If you would like to game on Linux, install cachyos with the plasma desktop. Both are good out of the box, mint holds your hand a little more. Both are very familiar to windows users with just a few minor differences (e.g. win+L doesn't lock the screen in mint by default, although it can be remapped).
>>
>>744648674
most noob friendly distros usually have package managers so you never have to touch the command line, and even if you do any changes that break anything get reverted on reboot when its immutable, it's not that scary.

Kinda thinking Kubuntu and just shutting off any bullshit. Not tried Fedora in a long time but when I did it felt less supported than ubuntu and less flexible than arch, sitting in a weird middle area what I ran into things not out of the box but also lacking the other way too.

I used mint, the most noob friendly version possible, it shat the bed 3 times in 2 days, every single time bricking in such a retarded way it stopped me from being able to log in, it just refused to get to the login screen, twice I had to reinstall the OS. This was when trying to do the most basic bitch tasks. Linux is hot fucking garbage that breaks for no reason, and I'm vastly more experienced than the overwhelming majority of PC users. if 98% of the consumer base needs to "git gud" for your OS to not explode in their face when they do seemingly nothing wrong, then it's a shit OS.

It's not that it doesn't work, it's AMD is just better suited for Linux from its absence of AI-computing capabilities but ease of access of gaming drivers. It just runs better for cheaper, therefore some people have to be unreasonable and say Nvidia just doesn't work. It works, I game on Linux with a 5070, only except however: now 750€ for 12GB is objectively worse than 900€ for 16GB since you're not gonna use AI, considering the Nvidia 16GB solution is past 1100€.
AMD is both a better solution and a more affordable solution compared to Nvidia. Some people push it to the extreme.

You can do all that shit on Linux, some of that stuff like running web servers or programming is better on Linux than Windows. The main downside is that certain "industry standard" software in creative disciplines aren't available on Linux (e.g. image editing, video editing, music production). There are Linux alternatives for all those things, but many creative people are used to a particular workflow and don't really want to learn anything new, and a lot of tutorials end up being for the most popular software so those Windows-exclusive programs retain their monopoly.

Having said that, MS Office used to be one of those "essential" programs that had to be run on Windows. Nowadays you can use web apps (either MS365 Online or Google Workspace) to view and edit documents, and multimedia information in general can be shared via a website or within an email itself. So it's less important for a home user to even install MS Office nowadays. There's a possibility that other standard tools move towards web apps too, in which case they can run on literally any machine with a web browser regardless of the OS.
>>
I already use linux. But I am a trannychaser so it works out for me.
>>
>>744664545
Arch is like buying raw produce to make a meal. Gentoo is like being given the seeds to plant your own vegetables. Technically Gentoo gives more control, but it's a more time consuming for a level of control that most people don't particularly care for.

It's fucking great. Get in touch with the surrounding communities as they share tools, assets, tips and settings for the best most efficient use.
It's the DAW I use for mixing professionally, it competes against ProTools in the same way a good Linux distro competes against Windows, it should be the industry standard but isn't for some reason. Money I suppose. ProTools has some flaws and limitations you don't find in Reaper, on the other hand Reaper is so customisable you'll never find two users with the same workflow. I imagine this would count as why Reaper isn't an industry leader.
But when I went to sound engineering school, the director advised we use Reaper as an introduction to the engineering process, as ProTools really is too expensive and works on a subscription model (reserved for the biggest pros).

Also the main argument against Linux is that the biggest, most nigglecattle games with retardslop sparkledog garbage cashshops on top of having to buy their game every year + expansions + DLC passes + battle passes. And the only reason they don't work is because of their unsafe, system-wide performance reducing DRM and anti-cheat systems that don't even work have a built in "if Linux detect > deny access" code. Not only do the majority of good games and old games require Visual C++ and .NET because 99% of game require middleware but that obvious JEET retard doesn't know the difference between installing something basic like Java or Python vs install an always online always active performance harming piece of shit because he probably never uses computer outside of his job and likely doesn't even know what a fucking video game even is.
I am not mad that he takes money to shit up the board. We all need to eat. I am mad that his handlers are so bad with how they train them for their job. LIE. BETTER. GET. GUD.
