Is Lords of the Fallen worth playing?
>>
>>744645063
it's good, Blasphemous if it were 3D and less elegantly written, more pulpy. The sequel's talking a lot of big game.
>>
>>744645063
I liked it but maybe wait for the sequel?
>>
>>744645063
Definitelly, especially after all the major updates. I enjoyed the exploration a lot, especially after Elden Ring left me underwhelmed.
>>
If you've been craving for a Souls game with level design that's closer to Dark Souls 1, don't mind less polished animations and you're also ok with an easier game (around Demon's Souls level of difficulty), it's worth it. I had a really good time with it.
But if you mainly play Souls for boss fights and you're more of a DS3 guy than a DS1 guy, you'll be underwhelmed.
>>
If code vein didn't exist, it'd be the worst souls clone with a budget.
>>
it's a decent 7.5/10 soulslike with some really nice optional built-in modifiers for difficulty, challenge runs & enemy / item randomisers that add a lot of replayability
at launch it probably wasn't worth playing but it is now
>>
>>744645063
They even unfucked the co-op
>>
>>744645063
Yeah I got it at the start of the year and loved it. More like DS1 than the later more hectic games like DS3 or ER; but to me that's a good thing. Lantern mechanics and doubling-back paths in the world are also pretty good.

The rival who you are likely to lose to the first few times makes your progression feel noticeable and while at the time I wanted to get to fight him again; by the end I realised they made the right decision.

Builds are varied and fairly interesting. Aesthetics are top tier.

Enjoy. Its not perfect but I'd give it 8-8.5/10.
>>
>>744647631
What, does it no longer fucking crash?
>>
>>744645063
I quite like it.
>>
I genuinely fucking hate the two worlds gimmick. 90% of the time it's just
>haha the ladder isn't there it's in the spooooky world
>>
Stealth marketeer thread. They've been going at it the past month so sequel announcement soon?
THQ dies but shit like this survives. Clown world
>>
>>744648178
95% of the time there is no reason to NOT be in the spoopy dimension.
>>
>>744648178
It resulted in some kino shots, and I had a few intense chases there, but overall I didn't care for it.
>>
>>744648325
The stalker enemy that spawns there is harder than any boss in the game.
>>
>>744648243
Retard-sama....
>>
>>744648538
I have never run out of time, how fucking slow are you
>>
>>744645063
no this game is horrendous. It was a 5/10 at best when i played it with my friend.
>ALL areas overstay their welcome
>fully linear with extreme lack of enemy variety
>the umbral world mechanic is shit in practice. you have to be in it all the time so the entire game has an ugly blue tint all over it. if youre not in it youre just missing content and pickups
>completely linear and yet manages to have time wasting level design
>almost all bosses are literal whos who show up out of nowhere and die. worse than modded soulsslop bosses
>abysmal dogshit balance
>80% of the game completely forgettable
>the stat i chose (pure inferno) had literally like 2 or 3 weapons across the entire game
>9/10 my spells were completely shit and 1/10 of them were the most braindead overpowered shit ever that dealt 10x the damage for half the cost or gave me free huge buffs
>coop partners cant interact with several features, not even redeem boss rememberances
>meme zanzibart tier plot
>>744647557
>level design closer to ds1
fucking kill yourself for saying this. genuinely
If anything this is a DS3 game in the sense that its completely linear in progression, its only "appeal" is combat, and all areas are generic and unnofensive. theres zero actual creative enemy encounters in the entire game
>>
>release game
>it's shit
>like 4 years later release similar game with identical name
why is this allowed
>>
The 2nd game is coomer coded
>>
>>744651069
>zero actual creative enemy encounters in the entire game
I'm not sure how one would classify enemy encounters as creative, but I remember a lot of them, arguably more than DS3.
>>
>>744651129
>Corporo is afraid to release new IP
>Dust off one of the IPs we have
At least this has some semblance to the original unlike Prey.
>>
>>744651069
oh sorry i forgot to mention more about how bad the game is

Enemy animations, tracking and hitboxes are INSANELY horrendous. you really want to iframe or parryslop things. do not trust your strafing.
The game is filled with obtuse quests with meme-tier fail conditions or NPCs going to a random ass spot with zero incentive to revisit.
Most of the armors look so fucking ugly
Most of its features like socketing gems are the most shallow pointless shit ever: Doing a holy damage weapon? Okay make sure to socket the "you deal more holy/elemental damage" shit. dont worry every non-damage gem is shit.

Theres 99999 billion quality weapons that play the exact fucking same with the same moveset.
The animations and wind-downs are unforgivably janky and shitty
The input buffering is HORRENDOUS. It doesnt matter how slow your first attack is. It doesnt matter if it takes 1500~ miliseconds for your third attack to cone out. tap thrice under 100 miliseconds and you WILL attack twice.

Its very rare for me to say this but i cant think of a single good thing to say about this game. All its departments are shit
>>
>>744651236
dude we're talking such a short span of time between them that they had to have begun development a year after the first entry. what dust?
prey had a much larger gap between it's two identically named entries.
>>
>>744651326
>. tap thrice under 100 miliseconds and you WILL attack twice.
you will attack thrice*
>>
>>744649916
I enjoy exploring and finding things on my own instead of following guides. It's literally impossible to explore an entire area between bonfires without the stalker showing up if you're not rushing through everything like a maniac.
>>
>>744651069
>If anything this is a DS3 game in the sense that its completely linear in progression
I don't see how anyone who played the game could possibly come to this conclusion.
>>
>>744649916
NTA but i had it show up exactly once because my coop partner went afk while we were in the umbral realm.
>>
>>744648538
true actually. but its mostly just his obscene hp & dumb hitboxes
>>744649916
youre somewhat incentivized to mog him so you can keep the 3.00x souls. The first time you kill him also has good drops
>>
It feels like someone copying Dark Souls 3 but with less competence. It's an ok game if you want that experience.
>>
>>744651387
It was 9 years. Even with today's insanely long dev cycles the sequel is coming out 4 years later. I still agree it's stupid but no way in hell they worked on the 2023 game for 8 years.
>>
>>744651818
Yeah, it's not a fun challenge, it's OP and meant to kill you for being there too long. But I think it works better this way. If it was fun and fair to fight then that would be an incentive to stay there, not to fuck off.
>>
>>744651770
The game is a completely, entirely linear in terms of actual progression. Maybe you have a minuscle branching path in the sense that you follow this side corridor before you continue the main corridor, but ultimately theres zero route variety.
The game has ninety billion shortcuts to previous areas, previous areas you already explored and can just warp around to.
Im not saying DS1 is a very nonlinear game, but it DOES have opportunities for you to carve your own path and routes across areas in a few of its portions. And it actually puts its interconnection to real meaningful use.
Look at this. Its overwhelmingly a linear corridor. Most ""branching paths"" like fief are dead ends, initially locked by a key acquired later in the game. Most interconnection is just areas randomly looping to skyrest(the main hub) when it doesnt even matter because you can warp anywhere.
>>
>>744645063
After a shitload of updates, yeah it is. The 2.0 did wonders but it also has a lot of features like being able to randomize your items in a run or enemies. It's good, really good now.
>>
>>744652114
>randomize enemies
Does this really make a difference? It already feels like they randomly sprinkle the same 8 enemies across the entire game.
>>
>>744651326
You are a faggot contrarian, go back to Code Vein.
>>
>>744651069
Are you fucking mental?
The game opens up even more than DS1.
DS3 was just a counter-clockwise ring of levels.
>>
>>744645063
It's mid. Play it if you liked Dark Souls 2 and are itching for more.
>>
>>744652078
It is not as good as DS1, but it is MUCH closer to it than 3, it's not comparable at all. Shortcuts to Skyrest are a bit redundant on a first playthrough, but as you play with less bonfires on NG+ they come in handy, so the interconnection makes a difference still.
Doing things in different orders through exploration is not really something you get a lot of chances of doing in DS3 outside of something like doing Lothric Castle early.
Lords sometimes gives you a branching path and it just keeps going and going until it ends up back in Skyrest, the chart doesn't do justice to just how big some of those levels can be, how far down you go in that cave and stuff like that.
The multiple access points to areas also tease you with different choices for progression all the time, you see a late bonfire unlocked and you keep wondering if you should pursue that path or wait to see how long it takes until you actually reach it through what is the "intended" way. Having those tangible paths and goals at your reach all the time adds a lot to the game. DS2 did this incredibly well with the hole in Majula too.
>>
>>744652224
I have a friend that had fun with it but I personally didn't. What I did have fun with was the randomized items, because it means anything is up for grabs. I got an armor set and a weapon that are for getting a specific ending for example, and I got this fuck huge flaming sword really early that I couldn't really use for a while but ince I had the stats for it it wrecked. AND, you can restart your game whenever you want and keep your items and character.
>>
>>744652114
I like the modifier that gives you weapon drops already leveled up to match your current gear. It's a fair bit easier this way, but makes it experimenting with different weapons a lot more fun in a randomizer run instead of just focusing 100% on the first broken weapon you get.

>only game to implement proper invasions outside of fromsoft
>redditors endlessly cry "muh nonconsensual pvp is literally rape!" in the forums
>CEO does a poll to disable invasions
>redditors flood the poll and win
>they make invasions disabled by default and kill the entire pvp because of reddit
Goes to show that doing everything the polls say can be counterproductive.
Congratulations faggots, now the game is like every other game you could already play and you destroyed the one thing that used to set it apart from the sanitized slop.
>>
>>744645063
Some bosses are a little too easy. Especially if you go for a meta build
>>
>>744652843
That is a shame but I play offline anyway because my nude mod disables Easy Anti Cheat.
>>
>>744652078
What is this obsession with non linearity? You faggots played Majora's Mask once back in the olden days and have not gotten over it, holy shit.
>>
I played it a bit way back when it was free on playstation plus and didn't like it. Does this game even have any actual fans?
>>
>>744652964
It's fun.
Bloodborne would be considerably more fun if it had a single sequence break that allowed you to do some builds without needing to complete 70% of the game before you're using your weapon. No idea why they patched that coffin jump that let you go straight for the Chikage.
>>
>>744652964
i dont have an inherent problem with nonlinearity. its just that LOTF's linear world is boring as shit to explore.
I was mostly bringing that up in response to the guy saying LOTF's world is more like DS1 which is completely nonsensical. It literally shares zero of the appeals DS1's or even DS2's world has compared to your typical linear souls clone
>>
Sure looks like it is. I own a copy, and wish I could get around to playing it, but I have too many other things on my to-do list.
>>
>>744653252
On that I agree. And this is coming from someone who enjoyed LOTF. I thought there was plenty to explore between the real world and the umbral world and I spent a lot of time scouring for every item I could, but in the end it IS more linear than DS1 who made great use of its maps and shortcuts.

Maybe I'm just being an optimist, but the devs for this really took to implementing player feedback and turned it into a genuinely fun game, and the sequel is probably gonna be a buy for me because I don't think just sat on their asses and learned nothing from this one.
>>
>>744652710
it doesnt matter how big or fancy an area is if it still ends up playing as a glorified linear hallway with loop-backs.
I enjoy large areas with intricate layouts but this game just does it pure style over substance. It only contributes to NG+ with less bonfires as you said but i really see no incentive to ever bother with the ng+ of this game.
>>
>>744652269
clearly youre emotionally attached to this game
its not even contrarian to hate on it, it has almost a 50% review score
>>744652460
DS3 was hardly a ring, it was a linear corridor.
How the fuck does LOTF open up more than DS1's first half? Genuinely curious to see if i missed some option. Any examples of route variety/areas that can be accessed by going through a different sequence of previous areas?

(And in advance, "you can either go through linear path A or linear path B first!" does not count)
>>
>>744653447
The only thing that gives me a bit of pause is that major people changed, and I don't see them clearly talking about when that was. I don't particularly care that the director for 2 didn't direct 1, but was he at least part of the team at all while they worked on 2.0? If so then he has my trust, if he did nothing at all on the previous game then who knows.
He did make Surge 2, I think? And I've seen people praising that game a lot, but never played it myself.
>>
>>744652843
Given the opportunity, "gamers" would eliminate everything that makes a game fun or interesting. Devs should know better than to listen to the rabble of shitters bitching online.
>>
>>744653273
Ain't that the truth.
>>744653639
Exactly. Tentatively optimistic. I don't know shit about Surge, I saw the first one and thought it looked clunky, didn't even know there was a sequel.
>>
>>744652224
You are right about the enemies but the randomized loot is pretty fun. Makes it feel like a budget ARPG. Fun for 1 playthrough.
>>
>>744651710
>I enjoy exploring and finding things on my own instead of following guides.
woow, just like me, and yet you are the only one having this problem, you are either beyond retarded or larping

now lets see if they will do exactly the same shit in the second one :^) (noyt buying it if yes)

Solid 6.

>story
very pointless. When you tie together all lore and establish whats going onni you realise its just jank, all made to sound cool and grim. The best possible ending would be for pc to sit down doing nothing so whats even the point of the story
>modifiers you can set up for playthru
Pretty cool
>art direction
Pretty cool
>dudebro coop gaming
Pretty cool
>lvl design
Alright, some pretty neat stuff
>enemy and boss desing
Alright+
>gameplay/flow
Jank, garbage, ue5

Abysimal dogshit ue5 trash

A solid 6. Fun time waster but very forgettable experience because of jank and its overall very pointless
>>
>>744655763
Yes, I'm the only person who has seen the mechanic designed to push you out of umbral. Every other player spends 90% of the time there.
>>
>>744651069
You show in every thread that mentions this game to say this exact same shit
>>
>>744656671
Rather that than a rushed mess like we usually get.
>>
>>744659434
>>744651710
nta but even though you will see the stalker often, you can exit and re enter to reset his timer. I never had a problem exploring in umbral and the only time I hit the timer cap was deliberate for more souls.
>>

It looks better than Elden Ring.
