Lmao, remember VR?
Retards actually blew thousands on that shit
>>
You keep reminding me everyday.
>>
all i spent on vr was like, 250€~ for a quest 2, which was honestly a pretty fun toy for a while
>>
It's gonna make a comeback
The frame will be convenience and comfort focused which is genuinely its biggest issue

True, but like where are the games?

I paid 480€ (tax, tip, shipping included) for my Quest 3 and I have used it weekly for 2 years. It actually has the most play time of my gaming systems now. VR fucking awesome. I haven't even touched PCVR yet because there is so much standalone games.

>>
>>744647373
Same, but I still use it for Paradiddle. Paradiddle alone makes the Quest 2/3 basically worth it, against an actual drumkit if you are interested in learning drums.
>>744647619
My main problem with VR FPS is I just can't get the aiming down due to the slightest misalignment in the way you hold your controllers makes shooting in games like Pavlov basically go nowhere near where you intend to shoot.
>>744647549
Genuinely, Paradiddle and Pianovision. Probably the two single best and most intuitive ways you can learn an instrument.

Also Bigscreen is worth it just for watching movies in a giant cinema in bed, sad most the public rooms are just pedos trying to entrap children with "i'm 12 yo looking for bf" rooms instead of kino fans.

why, flat gaming isn't playable at all unless it's some sweaty esport
>>
>>744647473
Alyx is ass without VR. Not because the game was super "VR only" but because it's a weak game. If you don't have the real world scale art, if you don't have the high quality VR weapon handling, the game just sucks.

>Hardware could finally be "good enough" with better lenses, weight distribution, and wireless PC streaming. In other words the Steam Frame.

after playing VR games for the past year I tried to play flatscreen this week, holy fuck its like I'm gaming in the 1980s its so much of a step back in immersion
>>
>>744648984
>>744649118
Vr is actually good now the problem is that the entry price isn't even the headset. It's the fucking hardware. A quest3 or psvr2 is enough because the games you could run on an 8k headset look like shit anyway and the ones you want to play in vr are the flat2vr titles which can't even Max out the 2 most common cheap headsets.
8k headset probably needs dual 5090s to run well.
But it finally is a valid product. If you have a high end gaming pc in the worst hardware economy since the 90s

The biggest issue is that early 2010s were used to shill Windows 10 and once lenses and screens became better the market shifted to standalone.
It's like if large flat panel TVs had only had HDMI inputs while they were still ass, only for the later good flat panel TVs to be exclusively smart TVs that could only play content over an internet connection, we'd still be using CRTs.

There is some Linux support now with standalone, but it's effectively airgapped, and while there are still wired chinksets, they are mostly Windows only or have other caveats.
>>744647672

>>744649506
Yep, Faceberg is the worst.
>Did not deliver the promised Linux drivers
>Got into a fight with Valve, so everyone came up with their own patented, proprietary standards
>Got on the Shartphone hypetrain and encouraged more walled gardens
>Standardized wireless streaming using integrated Android ARM computers for ads and data harvesting
>Normalized shit headstraps by not delivering functional headstraps after the first few headsets
>Gobbled up resources and investors only to use them at single digit efficiency if that
>Effectively ran an anti-marketing campaign in the form of Horizon and the Meta shit
>>
>>744650501

controller movement with the adaptor is not a smooth as other options, and a handful of issues with games that were meant for more mainstream PC headsets have given me grief, but easily i'm able to play damn near whatever and enjoy it so the small bumps along the way don't bother me too much.

>>744647672
Well, VR's two biggest problems are:
>it's a peripheral that, unless you're going for Zuck's VR hell, costs as much as a fucking console (not to mention the peripherals for your peripheral, that are equally as expensive)
>there is a significant lack of GOOD variety in VR games, the best ones are either old as shit or mods for existing games (which usually makes them a pain to play)
Not to mention that advancement in VR has been happening at a snail's pace. Its been over a decade now, and it still feels like the biggest achievement they've ever made was making it wireless.
>>
>>744647672
That's only a problem if you're making a standalone headset, which is generally a shit idea because how many people can you think of can actually manage a console ecosystem? "Dumb" PC headsets are still cheap to make, it's just the market is not only smaller but have high standards.
>>
>>744667535
>"Dumb" PC headsets are still cheap to make, it's just the market is not only smaller but have high standards.
Tethered VR headsets still make up the cutting edge class of headsets. You aren't running lossless high resolutions and framerates through wireless communication. It all comes down to what content you plan on using your glasses for. Simfags use "dumb" headsets while freaks use the standalones. Freaks I mean those that use their headsets for VRC and porn as I doubt an audience that could be classified as "casuals" really exists for VR anymore.
>>
>>744667929
>as I doubt an audience that could be classified as "casuals" really exists for VR anymore.
Yep. Closest thing is the Gorilla Tag kids and even those are quite dedicated.
>>
just how good is the quest 3 for pure PCVR? i will never be able to get slimeVR stuff or full body tracking. also the steam frame wont be shipped here since valve cant even mass produce their controllers. i only managed to get an deck at a solid price because valve had fuckton of them to the point they were selling them in bulk to retailers.
>>
>>744670037
If you're getting a Quest 3, do not get the Quest 3S which shares the same lens stack as the Quest 2 (torture device). It performs about as well as the Pico 4 and Pico 4 Ultra, which can be found for about the same price if not cheaper.

"almost good enough", it's wireless but you will notice compression, especially in some games like Skyrim VR with a lot of moving foliage.
>>
Got a PSVR2 on sale and after playing HITMAN WOA I can assuredly say that not only is OP a brownoid but also a faggot lol it’s fun as hell
>>
>>744670172
i know about the 3s. also the quest 3 is like 2300 in local currency while the pico is almost double the price for most models, the top tier is the pico 4 ultra enterprise edition which comes with body trackers, which is 4600 and is too much for my taste. while the cheapest is the pico g3 at 2500. maybe in the far future i would invest into slimeVR if i wanna bother with overseas shipping.
>>

>>744674813
Weapon handling is ass, vehicle sections are ass, enemy balance is clearly not meant for VR. Art style needs a revision to feel good in VR, everything's too jumbo sized and empty, which is part of the charm but in VR you need some assets for scale.

I just uninstalled the VR mod and played flatscreen.
>>
>>744673107
it's absolutely well implemented. everything works great. and you can run and jump and fuck around rather than the lame pseudo-platforming alyx had

>>744672661
alyx is a GREAT VR experience but it's not a fantastic game. and if you care about the half life setting at all, it's kino
>>
>>744675176
>and if you care about the half life setting at all, it's kino
phew, that's good actually, I like VR for the controls and the immersion
>>
>>744651928
Squad (custom servers or offline) the earlier one of that Vietnam one that's releasing also has a mod (hell let loose i think), sandstorm (i think there's 2 other titles in the same series) single player has a mod.

Otherwise there's forefront but its vehicle slop mostly of the socialist variety. The gun handling is the worse and makes zero sense why it would be so bad for a supposed fps.
>>
>>744675109
All the mod does is make it VR you fucking retard nigger
There's no issues with balance or weapo handling or anything you mentioned at all

Like at least try to come up with something believable if youre gonna shit post. Like holy fuck it's not a remake or ground up port, all it fucking does is make it VR
>>
>>744675109
>everything's too jumbo sized
Oh... you're a midget. You cant enjoy vr things unless you're a vore fetishist
>>
>>744675541
>all it fucking does is make it VR
Jank VR mods are notably worse than just playing it flatscren. It's like my opinion man.
You either go all in on game feel autism or don't bother.
>>
>>744675690
It's kind of the opposite. Everything feels 2D at that scale unless you have something to meaningfully compare it to. Retro FPS BSP level design feels unfinished in VR as a result. Meanwhile HL2VR does not have this issue.
>>
>>744650501
>It's like if large flat panel TVs had only had HDMI inputs while they were still ass, only for the later good flat panel TVs to be exclusively smart TVs that could only play content over an internet connection, we'd still be using CRTs.
I dont know what this paragraph is supposed to be about but we didn't wait for prepackaged smart tvs like you did. For one that's why the ouya was always sold out. Basically a fully unlocked Amazon firestick back when those still had to be jailbroken and ps3 was a premium bootleg machine for the bulk of its life. Both turned your TV into a smart bootleg device
>>
>>744649435
Even if you can't display 8k, you definitely benefit from the signal (content) being above what the headset can display. By at least 50% more than labeled
>>
>>744649328
This is how you know the shill posts are fake. Its not even possible to go back. I can't even go back to watching a non floating television and yall think imma go back to a restricted view and button pushing because some idiot can't figure out how to buy a halo strap
>>
Quest 2 was fun. I wish my 3070 was more powerful. But VR is for rich guys. It's best when you have a room at least an empty 10ft x 10ft room dedicated for it.
>>
>>744647950
>just can't get the aiming down due to the slightest misalignment
You can either go gunstock (most traditional play style) or stick to one handed guns. Theres a problem with at least one of your controllers, might be software.

The Virtual gunstock option in the settings also supposed to counter this but you loose the ability to blind fire around corners.
>>
>>744676526
Eh, most games aren't designed for roomscale. Also 2m x 2m is more than enough.
>>
>>744676438
This phase doesn't last long, VR has the potential to be good, but most games are done poorly and aren't very immersive. I was an early adopter and stopped playing once I got bored with pavlov and onward. The games simply aren't there yet.
>>

Yeah, as good as Quest 3. Easier even on my Linux. On windows it's more-less the same.
Close to q3 in all but much cheaper. And you can play all meta exclusives.

>>
>>744676973

Although they are very much just fun novelties, there's no future where VR Overtakes normal gayming on a screen with a proper controller.
It's just too huge a barrier to entry having to put on a headset, connect it to a PC, fumble through menus and stand and wave your arms around with this big fucking box stuck to your face. And everyone owning a META Requires devs to handicap all their games to be easily ported to what's esentially a high end phone from like 6 years ago.

I feel like I can't really play Skyrim or Minecraft anymore without VR. Especially Minecraft - it's such a dull game in many regards but imagine not being able to look around and appreciate vertical parts of builds. Ladder shafts are ass, granted, but I really enjoy aiming a crossbow with the motion controller. I'd also play plenty of gun-based games in VR if I could. VRChat was fun before all the "hackers" started forming anti-fun vigilant groups united against public spaces. Try to hang out somewhere and prepare to get your game crashed. I made a bunch of friends before all the adults began retreating to private rooms, but now all you meet is stoners and little kids.

But you're right, I have not had any interest in many dedicated VR games because usually they're hardware demos instead of something intended to be plain fun. A lot of VRChat games are equally as good as some of the bullshit they want money for, and that's not saying much.

A little. You get depth perception. It's also nice to play Skyrim and have weapons be tied to you own body motions instead of a goofy animation that leaves you wide open. It's great having a sword swing be a more precise motion you do from around your own shield instead of being a dumbass haymaker.

Yeah, I had fun with it. I still have fun with it. Once again, as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow, OP is a fag.
>>
I will buy the Steam Frame if it's $500
Not interested in spending more for like two games

>>VR porn is so distractingly fake
Well there's your problem. You're focused to much on "vr" porn and not enough on "3D" porn. Now you can turn literally any video or picture into 3D, locally.
>>
>>744688501
Yeah, but the effect wears off after a while and then it feels more like being surrounded by a 3D screen
>>
>>744688636
The furry femboys are high effort power users, dude. They are still around, incidentally, but either way you were going to have to pretend to like Gundam or something for a while before they'd agree to show you the avatar they made with a working dick. Likely in their own personal world. Also they aren't really femboys.
>>
>>744688501
Not in the way you imagine. It's much more immersive than normal games, but the reasoning part of your brain still knows it's virtual. However, your subconscious is more easily tricked and VR can trigger things like fear of heights, vague sensations of cold/warmth depending on the environment, etc.
>>
>>744660790
Yes. Nta but I play TOTF2 daily and I've killed 1 headset, and my second is occasionally playing up.
Sweat in it is no joke, but if you keep your receipt and you kill it within a year you should be able to return to base.
>>
>>744689371
Adding to this, I've kept my 2nd one alive much longer by toweling off between fights, sometimes rounds, playing with a big box fan and playing outside on drier days.
But playing more than 70 minutes at a time on the highest difficulty is just asking for trouble imho, eventually you'll sweat enough that you should just stop.
>>
>>744689145
yeah like i said i'm too old now to want to put effort into rping with john alberts, 48, senior IT manager just to see his model's dick through the wonder of virtual reality

VR chat is shit compared to how it was in 2022.
In order to meet any actual adults with a functioning brain, you need to pay and get 18+ certified.

I just want to hang out and it's just full of retards, teens and teen retards trying to role you up to amuse the 4 people watchijg them on twitch.

In 2018- 2021 I met guys like Korean pianist who couldn't talk to girls, Norwegian autoshop worker who was tired of small town life, Israeli chef blowing off steam after work, some southern girl who made dog food packaging for a living and kept birds, an old retired cop whose grandkids bought him a headset to keep him socially active during COVID.

It was pretty magical just chatting absolute shit to random people and getting their take on things. There were always mirror-dwellers, but now it's only that, and 80iq thirdie retards screaming
>>
>>744689354
Fear of heights was a funny one that got me for a while. I struggled with high places until I could mentally adjust back into game mode. You have the depth perception and that means your brain believes that's an actually deep pit, at first.
>>
>>744690154
I met one of the top artists on Webtoons by sheer random chance once. She friended me and everything but I'll be damned if I know the last time she logged in.
>>
>>744690154
I dunno how old you are, but that's pretty much just a speed run of the fall of the Internet in general.
>>
Valve here, we have decided to delay the Steam Frame until next year.
>>
VR always reminded me of motion controls in the sense that it sounds pretty cool on paper, then you use it and realize it's really only good for one specific thing (simulators) while being dogshit for just about everything else. The novelty of "Swing sword in VR", "Shoot gun in VR", "Throw ball in VR" wears off quick when it becomes clear that's all VR has to offer with nothing particularly unique beyond that due to being limited to FPV
>>
Anyone play the L4D2 VR mod? Looks really fun, but is it?
>>
>>744690690
NTA but the internet fell thanks to Google and their SEO. Wiped out everything.

VRchat has collapsed because it's so easy to crash other people's game clients that it's impossible to hang out in public worlds. I think a lot of people would still be having fun if there weren't a risk of some dipshit restarting the app on you every five minutes.
>>
>>744691154
Shoot gun or shoot bow in VR actually kicks ass, though. Skyrim previously required you to draw and hold a bow to get power, but VR is limited only by how well your stupid ass can aim a bow. Which is not well if you don't practice.
>>
>>744688914
Is being surrounded by a 3d screen supposed to be a bad thing?
>>
>>744690154
As a privacy schizo, the 18+ certification process kills most remaining interest in VRC for me. I will NOT give my identification to Persona.
Some cool solo worlds out there though.
>>
>>744691154
This has never happened
>>

>>
>>744690690
And all because of the retarded "boycott" over eac. A Disney subsidiary probably got it for pennies on the dollar because of that.
>>
Only recently got a cheap PSVR1 to finally try it out. Wasn't expecting much, but it's actually really fun, even if it's pretty low res. Got Astro Bot, Blood and Truth, VR Worlds, Skyrim VR and Psychonauts Rhombus of Ruin so far. Any recommendations?
>>
>>744665102
>perfect dark VR
Is that a thing?
>>
>>744691630
Single player mod
>>
>>744691616
Almost everything was a tech demo not the full game. Borderlands 2 if it got a psvr 1 release it would be full game minus the multiplayer.
>>
>>744691630
Lately it seems there is an explosion of FPS to VR games. AI seems to be very helpful for this.
>>
>>744691154
Motion controls are still pretty cool, it's just that gamepad is the wider audience. I was never part of "muh gimmick" camp.
>>
>>744688563
Any attempt at a boxing, minigolf, bowling or tennis/squash game on a flat screen is going to suck compared to their VR counterparts.

Some games that aren't bad in flat are just uniquely good in VR, like Superhot.

>narrow POV and clumsy motion controls
agree
>blurry
Agree but I guess I just sort of got used to it...
>I can't wait to take the headset off after an hour or so
Valve's new headset supposedly improves comfort a lot
>HL Alyx
Agree it would be considered a mediocre game if it were released as flat. Same goes for a lot of other popular VR games, like Moss.
>flight and driving sims are less fun than watching paint dry
Tried any mecha or tank sims?

I bought mine mainly because I see it as a form of exercise. I mostly stay away from regular video games because they're a huge waste of time.
>>
>>744691723
Well yeah, I figured. Played through Psychonauts with all trophies in like 3 hours and VR Worlds is obviously a (kinda crappy) collection of tech demos. But it's still new to me and I'm easily impressed, and I'm having a real good time with Astro Bot right now.
>>
>>744691616
>Wipeout Omega Collection
>Farpoint
>RE7
I'd recommend more, but a lot of titles got rereleases for PSVR2 or PC.
>>
>>744647310
I used to have a quest 3 but sold it because of how shit the software was. I'm currently waiting for the steam frame because I know steams software isn't putrid dogshit that makes me want to kill myself. Otherwise I really like vr. Porn is fun and my favourite game with VR is project wingman with a hotas and vr setup.
>>
>>744692702
Quest's software updates are a means of harvesting human misery to power their AI datacenters.

>blade & sorcery gradually loses frames and eventually enters perma-slowmo if I play for any longer than 40 minutes without a restart
>but funny enough, it doesn't happen that often because it just crashes for the most RNG reasons like throwing obe of the switches in the dalgarian ruins
We're like two content updates past early access, this should be fixed already. Fuckin video games.
>>
>>744692847
I hate how every update seems to make things just slightly worse somehow. I couldn't describe it, but you do really feel that enshittification.

One sorta minor gripe was we used to be in a cool little desert hideaway, but then they changed it to be in a lame Metaverse mall plaza, then they deleted that and now we have nothing. Just truly, fuck Meta.
>>
>>744692701
>I'd recommend more, but a lot of titles got rereleases for PSVR2 or PC.
Go for it, I'm not upgrading anytime soon.
>>
>>744693039
Did you get the new UI update? It's so dogshit.
>>
>>744693137
Oh, yeah. And fucking. Yes, I love having everything everything moved around for no reason and I have to spend fifteen minutes looking for the button to connect to my PC again.
>>
>>744693124
Alright
>Gran Turismo Sport and Drive Club (offline modes only)
>Hitman 3
>Rez Infinite
>Tetris Effect
>Doom 3
>Ace Combat 7
>Budget Cuts
>Iron Man VR
>Star Wars Squadrons
>Superhot VR
>Synthriders
>The Walking Dead Saints and Sinners

The tech demos are worth while if you're already a fan of a series, like Danganronpa, Final Fantasy XV, Batman Arkham, Vader Immortal. There are some tacked on VR modes for Tekken 7 and Persona Dancing All Night. If you're a gooner, Dead or Alive Xtreme 3

It had a good library in hindsight.
>>
>>744693802
Thanks, was already looking at Rez, Tetris Effect and Super hot. Budget Cuts looks interesting, and I guess I might try the Danganronpa one, even though I only played the first one.
>>
>>744692463
Lol that's just psychonauts. I figured it out after playing a modded version of an older one
>>
>>744694595
Super hot is good as a "first" game. Stick to pvp games if you can. Almost all single player games suck. Only pvp games are really worth it for "made for vr" at least until something is done about anticheat
>>
I bought a vive in 2017, and regretted it until I played Anthro Heat in 2025.

Statik is a hidden gem and exclusive. There's another called Separation which was recently made free that some people like but I stopped because it was too buggy.

i'll get back to using it later, just not right now.

Does anybody else's Meta Quest 3 have problems with bluetooth? For some reason headphones work fine but earplugs, but is so much better for the headset without purchasing a separate strap for built in headphones, disconnect every couple of seconds.

Going to get a lot of hate for this, but my consideration for the bare minimum of a vr headset is a decent wired dp headset.
I would say the crystal light, and the bsb2 are the absolute LOWEST you should go if your looking for immersion.
You lose so much fidelity through compression its similair to watching a YouTube playthrough of a game vs actually running it natively.
I own a quest 3 for standalone and a crystal light for pcvr, and the light is a trillion gazzilion times more immersive than the former its crazy.
I will boot up steamvr and change my enviorment to some of my favorite settings like an apartment penthouse with a great view and spend 15 minutes just starting off the balcony its unreal.
>>
I got a 5070ti and a Q2 that I only use to fap to porn like maybe twice a month. Worth getting a used Q3? Frame seems out of the question now price wise but with the Q3 I'll need to get $80 prescription lenses like I did with the Q2.
>>
>>744647310
I dated a guy in 2016 who Frankensteined two gaming computers in order to play VR. Shit must have been expensive even back then and the games fucking sucked

Sex was pretty good though

Alyx has the most "stuff" you can do with VR controls of almost any game. But yeah, it's a VR demo and not super hard.

You can pick shit up and throw it. Use objects to block headcrabs from jumping on you. Pull open drawers and cabinets to find ammo. Inject yourself (I still think this is cool) in the heart with syringes to recover health. Reload the shotgun in real time by opening it, picking up your ammo, then shoving it in. Toss grenades with real physics, etc.

You'll find yourself saying, "Can I do that?" and more often than not the answer is yes. Alyx will impress you, but only a few of the later levels have challenging fights and even then there's plenty of ammo/health to survive them.
>>
I cant go back to elder scrolls games in flatscreen I CANT YOU DONT UNDERSTAND HOW IMMERSIVE THESE GAMES ARE IN VRRRRRR ARGGGH

I still play beat saber 3-4 times a week

Vr helped with my depression.
When I first got my headset I would just play walkabout and hop from world to world in vrchat.
It gave me the sensation of being somewhere else like a vacation.
I started doing more things irl.

For me, it was Resident Evil Village on PSVR2, Such an amazing game, can't play RE without VR anymore. When I got to play Alyx, I was like, "Is that it? and I really hated all the hacking puzzles. Impressive graphics tho

It's really been over 10 years now hasn't it.

VR is and was a hobbyist journey. Until we have full dive, it's more like some kind of Jarvis upgrade for your viewing pleasure. I love it because it allows me to have multiple screens in my own make-believe office, and it's especially great for 3D work, especially if the program has real-time rendering like VaM. It really makes for an excellent creative space. You can play some games with it yeah, but that shouldn't be the focus of VR. It has so much more utility than just plain entertainment. It's current shortcoming is pricing, if you aren't well off or set aside money for it, it's not something you can just pick up from Walmart.
>>
>>744704046
Are you the fabled office worker Zuckerberg was trying to make the Metaverse for? The supposed future worker who types on a virtual keyboard instead of the one connected to his computer?
>>
>>744705928
Maybe? He was making a lot of promises without understanding what he was doing. You can really tell he probably wasn't the brains behind Facebook at all. Come to think of it, I don't think he's actually come up with a good idea on his own. He will never be Jobs or Wazniak.
>>
>>744647310
i still use it on a regular basis though
