So the first half of the game still has purpose and so do the four original protagonists, but, again, this is the type of stuff you need to hide until the game releases. I think the entire "part 2" is bait. I think the game starts with a mysterious Sothis and Eshmel scene, the broken statues of the heroes, some hopeless fights, and then it promps you to select a statue of a fallen champion to follow his story and recruit allies for the battle at hand. That's why having the White Raven Perch to select route will make sense from the get-go. Eshmel never or almost never fights battles in the past, he's travelling and being sort of a guiding angel to them, to save them so they can help him in his post-apocalyptic scenario. So the majority of the game will be the past, there will be like two maps tops of the apocalypse.
