https://www.forbes.com/sites/paultassi/2026/07/31/sony-addresses-bungies-marathon-performance-in-earnings-report/

>“With the release of Season 2 in June,Marathonhas maintained a high user retention rate while also acquiring new users.”

>The overall point here is that Sony is publicly backing Marathon once again. It’s not reporting financial losses from the game in the report (that doesn’t mean there are no losses), and there are no more Bungie impairment losses this time. It may be spin, but Sony is still talking about the game positively instead of remaining silent on it, which would be a bad sign.

>Sony does not mention Destiny 2, a game that saw an enormous player surge in the wake of its final update, which clearly retained lots of users. Its current figures, even after declines, are likely 10x or more than what Marathon is doing, particularly with a higher percentage of console users, which we can’t see publicly.

>As ever, this has intensely frustrated and angered Destiny players who find it hard to believe the game was killed, especially in comparison with Marathon. Regardless of that comparison, it remains a stunning turn of events, and there has rarely been this severe an ending for a storied franchise like Destiny in gaming history. Plenty of other live games, despite losing playercount, live on with new content additions.

>Marathon seems like it will get at least a year to prove itself in some capacity, though we do not know what metrics it must hit for Sony to be satisfied.

>Marathon is currently undergoing a transformation, adding significant PvE content to its PvPvE extraction mode, with the promise of purely PvP content to follow. The idea appears to be to make the game with a number of spokes into different multiplayer genres, which, naturally, feels like a much smaller version of what Destiny was. So far, we have seen no indications of a turnaround, no matte

I don't get the point of these threads. Marathon is a fun game if you're into what it's selling. If you're not, go play something else, or repost Asmongold content or cry about the culture war.

Bungie have always been shit

People who latch onto and obsess over shit like how a 7/10 game is failing or not have genuine unironic mental illness.
>>
>>744657227
It's prime tortanic fuel, just a shame the haters turned out to be so cringey
>>
Has there ever been another extremely successful game that was intentionally abandoned for an extremely unsuccessful game like this?
>>
>>744657782
You are intentionally ignoring the reason why so many people are glad the game flopped. You are intentionally ignoring the many reasons gamers are delighting in the massive failures of newly released live service games and the live service model as a whole. You are intentionally ignoring it, and projecting your own fantasy of people who hate what the gaming industry has become, because you have an emotional attachment to these slop games. You are a goy.

you're so draining, bro. go outside, read a book or something.

Fun fact just before posting this he was crying about having done everything in the final destiny update and started having another melty that his girlfriend game broke up with him.

>>744658613
Most of the Marathon playerbase is on Playstation.
>>
>>744656690
Imagine how hard he would shit on it and call it dead and flopping if ms published this game.

It was like 60% PC a few months ago. Confirmed by developer.

Source?
>>
>>744658212
It failed because it's a shit game made by shit devs. It wasn't the waterloo of your culture war. Moreover, gamers love live service games. Claiming that's why it failed proves you don't know anything about the industry.
>>
>>744658212
LMAO it's 45% ex bungie fans eternally seething about halo/destiny(and now marathon), 45% generic trolling retards, and MAYBE 10% people who genuinely think the gay shit you just said. Most gamers don't even give a fuck about marathon, no one is cheering marathon's failure except burned halo/destinyfags. No one actually cares about marathon, it's just a target to laugh at for most people who do "care".
>>
>>744656690
From a business perspective, why the hell would Bungie/Sony decide to straight up stop updating Destiny 2 when it was still making money and there isn't a sequel coming out? There are MMOs from the 90s like Ultima and Everquest that are still putting out the occasional update despite having tiny playerbases, since diehard whales don't tend to move on to other games easily .
>>
>>744657782
I think that 7/10 is a stretch. It could have been if there was another non-endgame map, but there isn't.
>>
>>744662961
Destiny 2 was pulling marathon numbers before it got canceled
>>

Destiny was already on the downturn for years before Marathon released.

I don't recall.

So your ass? Of course.

>>>>>Not flopping

Imagine saying that for "Bungie", especially after "Destiny 2".
>>
>>744662961
Destiny 2 was too expensive to make. They should have went with making Destiny 3 on an upgraded engine, but I guess Sony wasn't cool with that.
>>
>>744656690
>Marathon has maintained a high user retention rate while also acquiring new users.
no?
>>
>>744657991
The funny part is both Destiny 2 and Marathon are colossal failures. More so Marathon, but still, Bungie has been a big red number in Sony’s pocketbook for almost a decade
>>
>>744657227
telling people to play a different game when it is currently in 3-digit player counts is wild unc frfr

In the linked article, in the OP, which you did not read, there is confirmation that PC to console is 2:1 currently, as in right now

>Thread title: Paul Tassi is back to coping and seething at Marathon for not flopping.
>Paul Tassi, in the article: Sony is trying to spin Marathon's performance in any positive manner they can, but all that really means is that they are still giving Bungie a chance to fix their game.
Once again, Paul Tassi is stating nothing but facts, and once again, OP if a fag.
