>Even at the height of the fighting game boom, with a million-dollar prize pool on the line, there was still one group that stood above everyone else in the arcade. Not just gamers, but every regular—from street punks to yakuza types—looked on them with awe and respect.
>Those were the shmup players.
is this actually true? personally I can't really imagine anyone being impressed by a genre where it is all memorization and grinding unlike an actual skill-based one like fighting instead. you have to be a complete genetic dead-end loser to enjoy grinding the same section over and over again just to be able to get the 1CC or high score which isn't even that impressive

Idk people throw a tantrum here when you tell them pvp games are harder and have higher skill ceilings than pve ones. Singleplayer troons are just elitist because their ego is inflated from beating up on a retarded ai their whole life.

You have 10 years old prodigy grandmaster at Chess
You have 15 years old (multiple) prodigy winning worldwide majors for SF6
You have a bunch of teens challenger in LoL

Shmups? Only people who mastered the game through sweat, experience and skill can compete at them, no 15 years old prodigy, all 30+ years old master of their craft, like a Japanese samurai, or a Chinese commander

because the average kid is retarded and their brain isn't fully developed yet so you'd somehow need a kid that is a literal genius to learn/make scoring routes and on top of that, their hand-eye coordination needs to be good which requires grinding or natural talent to shorten the time (being a NEET is pretty much required)

Fighting games are made for everyone. Shmups are made specifically for weirdos.
>>
I don't think we need 24/7 shmup threads

No one seems to think that, but OP makes 'em anyways.

The one who plays whatever game he wants to play

shmups are just racing games for dummies, you have a line but you can't divert from it, you can't make sacrifices for exceedingly smaller gains and there is no technical refinement or real world application.

in my theory shmup players try to cope with a trauma where they could not escape from something that could have been avoided and use these games as an escape from our unpredictable world.
