Why the hell would a young girl with "a heart as pure as snow" become a General, let alone a General of the evil Empire? Being a General means you dedicated your life to war and to military discipline. Celes clearly isn't the type of person who would be interested in the art of killing people in a large scale. Also, when you start the game, she's defying the Emperor's orders, so the military clearly was never the place for her, as that involves following orders you don't agree with all the time. Again, her (and Leo for that matter) becoming Generals makes no sense. Compare that to Tifa. Her becoming a terrorist makes perfect sense after the Nibelheim incident. What doesn't make sense is her Remake version where she's hesitant. Bitch, if you had second thoughts on the use of violence, you wouldn't have joined a fucking terrorist organization in the first place. So I treat the Remake as fanfiction. As for Terra, her character arc just didn't land for me personally. I don't like Aerith either, but I have to admit her death scene is easily the most iconic moment in the franchise. And the fact that she isn't immediately replaced like certain characters from 2, 4 and 5 makes her death all the more impactful. I personally think killing Aerith is a lot more meaningful from a story perspective than Kefka "destroying the world", which effectively just killed nameless NPC you don't care about.

Not to say that FF6 wasn't popular in its own right but the numbers aren't even comparable. FF7 had a more interesting setting and premise too while FF6 was just of more of the same but grander.Presentation was also much more memorable with FF7 being the first time polygonal graphics and FMVs were used to tell the story while FF6 is just more chibis doing chibi things.Lastly love triangle is pure normalfag bait, FF6 had a big diffuse ensemble cast without much interpersonal drama while FF7 is mexican soap opera tier at times.

It could just use a version with difficulty, locations that actually look as they were envisioned, the 90% of the story, which lays on the cutting room floor due to cartridge imitations, restored, characters' backstories, personalities & interparty dynamics within the actual game and the concepts introduced and left behind after a scene expanded a little. Maybe even full Amano setting aesthetics, if they want to waste money.
