Most of them have never played an otome before.You can really tell since some of them developed their bizarre ideas of what an otome should be based on the game, like being upset if the guys talk to each other or the MC has a canon design and personality. It's a slice of life esque story where you grow up alongside childhood friend neighbours. I ended up backing 70 or so bucks, so a name of my choosing would be voiced by the characters. it'll be released in a free dlc pack alongside other names whenever the game releases. I primarily did it because the ginger girl chubby childhood friend is incredibly cute to me. The CG artstyle is inferior to the sprite artstyle though. Except the introduction cg for her.

Or whatever pronoun peacocks like to be. A lot of the choices themselves are also very reactive, so there's often mentions if you were a crybaby or injured yourself during a scene. Or are autistic and barely talk. Maybe mute too, but I never tried going full silent.

It itself is a bit old now, but it is decent enough and it gives you the general otome experience that many games are similar to. The fandisc is also a bit interesting since it has an extensive what-if scenario of joining the antagonists.Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side is also a classic, I prefer 3 myself. They're kind a trip since I'm a little iffy on the average experience of the game, it drags, but the requirements to find the secret characters are all wack so it was fun enough. They have english patches.Based on my own tastes, I may direct you towards Even if Tempest, Jack Jeanne, and Bustafellows. Even if Tempest is actually a linear story based around the MC's vengeance fueled danganronpa episode. Jack Jeanne is a low stakes but generally well written game about performing plays, complete with music, music videos, and rhythm game sections. What I like about otome games is that some of them are exclusives. There are otome games that are miltiplatform (Hakuoki, Collar x Malice, Code: Realize, Bustafellows...) and otome games that are exclusive or only available for one platform/console (Bad Apple Wars, Dairoku: Agents of Sakuratani, Winter's Wish: Spirits of Edo...).I admit that I've considered a few otome games because they are exclusives months or even years after they were released.
