Why don't they reintroduce old consoles to combat hardware prices? Make new PS4s, Xbox Ones, Switch 1s, etc. Get third parties to support those platforms again (some still already are).

Nobody wants or needs new consoles. What people want is cheaper consoles.

old consoles still need ram.
>>
>>744667986
Usually less ram though, which makes the price less volatile.
>>
Because it's retarded? Spinning up/ replacing factory lines to produce a redux console that will sell, what, ~3 million max over the next 5 years? And RAM prices are still an issue even if it's some paltry amount like 4GB. Not to mention shipping fees have gone up because of Americans and Muslims fucking up fuel prices. Also Sony doesn't even make most of their profits from games anymore; microtransactions literally make up more. They get more from mtx than they do from physical AND digital game sales.
Also, Switch 1 is still being made right now and it's still affected from everything going on right now.

The further you go back, the more purpose built the hardware is. It's not cost effective to set up production for these old components and reproducing the setup modern equivalents introduces compatibility errors.
They're better off with letting the hobbyists develop emulators so they can steal that work later, like the do for backwards compatibility.

That doesn't apply much to the PS4 or Xbox One though, since they're a major leap in standardization from the PS3/360. The parts are the bigger obstacle to OP's hypothetical (and the Xbox One would be a moot cause anyway since it was a flop).

Though I think there should be more games made for those systems (and the Switch 1). Between the PS4, Xbone, and Switch 1, you've got about 305 million consoles sold (and probably about 230-250 million still functional if I had to pull a number out of my ass); that's plenty of install base to justify releases for them still. They'd be the perfect target platform for B/C-budget and indie games real indie games not shell-corpo faux-indies like Expedition 33, since you wouldn't need high specs to make such games work and PS5/Series/S2 owners wouldn't miss out on them either due to BC.

Of course they'd have to be digital games.
>>
>>744667791
It's easier to sell remasters and subscriptions for older games.
>>
>>744667791
Prices are high because of ram which older consoles also use you fucking retard
>>
>>744667791
Op even ddr2 had a price hike
>>
>>744671451
Ps4 and switich still getting games
>>
>Get third parties to support those platforms again
Some of these companies never even supported the Switch 1 lmao

Just let the industry collapse already, it's for the better.
>>
>>744667791
why? because you are the product OP, you're not supposed to have choice
>>
>>744667791
Upper management faggots, insufferable tech guys, and share holder cunts would rather nickel and dime people that don't know better because that is more profitable than backwards compatibility. If they brought back older games, marketing kikes couldn't FOMO normalfags into missing out on something new.
>>
>>744667791
Anon you're thinking of what makes sense for consumers but what makes investors happy is new $1500 consoles no one wants to buy. You do not spark quarterly bonuses.
>>
>>744667791
I totally agree with you. I've wanted this for years.

Go back to PS2 and make new games for it again.
>>
>>744667791
Why make consoles that compete with computers when you can make computers just as limited to control the public and merge profits from both?
Microsoft knows why not.
>>
>>744667791
This but older cheaper PC parts. PCs are massively overpriced.

No point trying to sell new PS4 systems. Everyone who could possibly want one, already has one. And anyone left would be better off buying an used one.
As for software support, there's still brand new PS4 games coming until at least next year.
>>
>>744671451
That's why I prefaced it with "the further you go back." I'd note that while it doesn't apply to the same extent for last gen, it still applies. Even the jump from ps4 to ps4 pro introduced compatibility issues for several titles. In previous gens I recall different releases of the same console (using slight updated components) having compatibility issues within their libraries.

The monkey paw curls...
The wish is granted, but all games require the PS2's ethernet and HDD expansion so they can implement always online requirements and microtransactions.

Switch 1 is still sold and supported. You mean a 3ds.
>Ps4
Sony overall wants to fuck you out of all game ownership and doesn't make the drives anymore
>Xbox whatever version
Who knows what they are doing. Technically they could just force an update than turns every xbox console into a windows pc. They have been fucking you out of your games and implemented everything they tried to do on xbox one in every later edition.
>Wii U
It isn't powerful and a lot of Wii Us died cause of a battery leak issue after being disconnected for long enough.
Only way this would work is if on rail shooters made a comeback....
And wii dropped the ball with that genre when they had a golden goose to keep pushing those
>Ps3
Do you know how hard this was to code for? You had to manually allocate where the memeory and effects went.
There is a reason it's impossible to get most games from ps3 emulated, even if it was peak PlayStation.

Look I think maybe bring back the 3ds. Other than that, it's time to emulate or let go
>>
Why don't they just make more ram?

>Why don't they reintroduce old consoles to combat hardware prices?
They did that already, and you talked shit about it.
>>
>>744682178
>Why don't they just make more ram?
Because if they make more then everybody who wants it will get it, and then the demand/price eventually goes down. If they keep artificial scarcity then the price stays high, or keeps going up, forever.
>>
Better idea just port/remake old console excusive games to PC and/or mobile.
>>
Im surprised more rpg companies dont just do mobile ports
>>
>>744667791
>Hey consumer, how about you buy significantly weaker hardware that can't run the new flagship games you're looking for, and it costs close to what the new machine cost a year ago
I'm starting to realize why they don't have you on their marketing and strategy team anon.

Because the supply lines don't exist anymore, it would be unironically more expensive.
>>
I really wish this all happened in like 2014.
>>
>>744667791
they did do that right? nintendo sold their NES and SNES again and they sold out like instantly
>>
>>744667791
Too many retards care about graphical fidelity and things being "new" for this to be profitable.
>>
>>744667791
I would buy new release ps1/ps2/360 and PC DVD physical releases if they were any good and existed and did not require internet .
